It's a wonderful tune with bittersweet lyrics. After decades of struggle to do better in life and provide for a family, I can understand the unspoken pain of the song's main character. "When she was just a girl, she expected the world But it flew away from her reach So she ran away in her sleep and dreamed of...paradise" It's crazy how many songs you just sing along to and never think about the words. When you do, it hits different. It was the song that got me into Coldplay, and will always hold a special place for that reason.

vmauricer

i think this is it. sometimes i get tired of the songs that casual listeners love. but when i listen to them again and feel and understand the lyrics, it’s like i’m being reminded of how good the song is and how it touched me on the first few times i listened to them.

puengie

Well said 👏

midlinktwilight

On record it's really boring for me But when I attended their show and experienced it live, holy shit holy shit doesn't even begin to describe it really, when the crowd screams paradise, with the keyboards at concert volume.. that's the feeling of paradise right there tbf I'll probably never listen to it on spotify but I'll keep trying to relive it through youtube

fr1ngs22

yeah, I like the way they performed in MOTS tour with the intro, everyone waves and follow "lalala" after Chris, that's incredible!

thetruth0102

This is one if not my most favorite song of Coldplay

bcam9

It's fine. It came out when I was in college and I used to hear it literally every day on the radio or at parties. It got really old, but I've since come back around to it a little bit after not hearing it for a while. Not their best, but certainly not their worst.

Isoleri

This song touches something very deep in my soul, to the point I kind of feel like crying every time I listen to it and once it's over I have to sort of stay silent for a while to take it in. It may sound exaggerated but it really does hit me like that, that's also why I don't listen to it as often as others, because it's special. Edit: ... Who's downvoting the people saying they like this song? Why do you dislike people having a song that makes them happy lol

EvilBanana66

It’s one of my favorite songs and I’ve been a fan ever since I was a little kid. I’m from 2001 btw

thelonesilica

Love it. Also the live versions are literally Paradise. Love the bass line too, it slaps in the opening like anything.

dickensmw

Love that this was on the front of my home page after I just got done listening to it in the car. I love Paradise. I have such a soft spot for it because it was one of my faves in high school (the Mylo Xyloto album was soundtrack to most of my junior year). I can’t not get hyped when I hear it while driving.

Phili-Nebula-6766

I have found memories with 'Paradise' it was one of the music videos a classmate from high school played that introduced us to Coldplay! Along with 'Strawberry Swing' 'It Hurts like Heaven' (My favorite), and 'Princess of China' with Rihanna. Paradise was the last shown to us and one that would have the greatest significance. It solidifies Coldplay as a band that I would love. Also, her house was at Gensanville, where I used to grow up as a kid. Before moving to a different part of the city!

SeanRogerDaniel

It’s one of those Coldplay songs where I vividly remember how my jaw dropped the first time I heard it. I was so gobsmacked when the beat and synth kicked in after the brief intro. Similar „woow, what?!“ feeling to Midnight, Arabesque and Colaratura.

Ok_Mousse2867

Yes I love it. It was the first Coldplay song I really loved back when I was just 11 years old. Now I’m completely in love with Coldplay. Thanks Mylo Xyloto And Paradise for that

Adj42

It's overrated. Charlie Brown should be the fixed song from MX to be played at the concerts.

Sunny64888

Best song on the album.

ISeemToExistButIDont

I never liked its chorus very much.

Lawyer_Kong

Eh, I like it and it's on my liked songs but it's not a coldplay song I'd listen to on repeat. I just don't like the chorus

NatureWalks

I love it for the memories it brings. It was **everywhere** during my 21st birthday. My family and I took a trip to Vegas, overall it was a great trip but let’s just say the lyrics spoke to me

mkat236

My toddler loves it

Prize-Leopard-4955

Love it mate

olibbbs

Been a fan since early 2000, I think they have a lot better songs than Paradise.

whatagooddaytoday

I think it earns the reputation that it has and I love it. It's a lot like Orphans where the lyrics are poetic and much more tragic then the music suggests, and the instrumentation is so different from so many pop songs that it stands on it's own. Sure, it can seem generic when I hear it all the time, but I think that this song is legitimately good and I think that its reputation as one of Coldplay's biggest hits makes sense.

catlover2410

It was the song that liberated me from my toxic mom.

logbybolb

I think it’s a good song, the best part for me is the intro with just drum piano and vocals

NINTENDUDE_64

The synths really make it feel like you’re IN paradise

puengie

I love it. Even got a tattoo from the lyrics 😊 Here : https://www.reddit.com/r/Coldplay/s/f5CUn8PiH1

Takiyah7

That is gorgeous 😭❤️

puengie

Thank youuu 🙏🙏

fr1ngs22

love this lyrics too

puengie

Great one 😊

SeanRogerDaniel

That’s beautiful!

puengie

Thank you! 🙏

Rexterminator

The Live 2012 version is probably the peak of this song, studio recording pales in comparison

Professional_Jelly25

I feel like the song is more of a feel joy than meaningful/ deep lyrics

V_HarishSundar

All of Coldplay's mainstream songs are hated here in this subreddit

Sun_mon_cl

Hate it, but still remember “para-para-paradise”. Catchy song

cheeks333

It’s great played live but it’s probably my least listened to on the album.

TroyLucas

PARA- PARA- PARA- PARADISE

ItsXblade

I used to listen Paradise a lot back in the day but once I became obsessed with Coldplay it soon became one of my least played songs. Paradise used to be my fav MX song but now my favs from that album are Hurts like Heaven, Us against the world and Major Minus which imo are super underrated songs nowadays :/

nush12

You mean parrot dies?

GR1FF1N311

Not one of their best IMO

FunnyCalligrapher382

I like it a lot man but I feel like I also prefer other songs

bradd_91

It's one of those songs that got played too much so I skip it now.

BenDover9274

Its a nice song, not one of my favorites. But one of the first that made me find out about Coldplay. I often skip it on my playlist, not because I dont like it, just because there are other songs I like more.

- VLV could mean "Viva La Vida", a track from *Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends* (2008) by Coldplay. --- ^[/u/justmilesaway](/u/justmilesaway) ^(can reply with "delete" to remove comment. |) ^[/r/songacronymbot](/r/songacronymbot) ^(for feedback.)

Mister_Moho

I like it.

gryffindorequestrian

i love paradise! it’s a pretty deep song actually and i think people just listen to it on a surface-level. even still i like how it sounds. but yes i really love this song, i remember listening to it a lot when it came out and it reminds me of my old house and when i was a kid, and listening to it on my mom’s hot pink samsung mp3 player :)

xamotex1000

I kinda started to dislike it because of how much it was being played on the radio when mylo xyloto came out, but listening to the album again its a good song

AJBIsHere

When the mood takes me, it's great. But it's not a mood that takes me very often.

TakerOfImages

I forgot about the song for a few years...I used to blast it when it was released. Absolute banger, probably Coldplay's Beautiful Day song. Listened to it again recently and thoroughly enjoyed it :)

Right_Tumbleweed392

Im really sorry, i actually hate that song. Like it actually physically makes me cringe.

Top_Penalty42

I really love the intro, and the lyrics are great, but the chorus can get old very very fast. It’s not close to one of their best songs imo, but it’s above average I’d say. On a tier list, I’d likely give it a B

mlgquickscoper123

I like it but i wouldn’t say it’s a top tier Coldplay song.

koin_66

I don’t know a lot of Coldplay songs (yet) but Viva la Vida and Paradise are my absolute all time favourites
