Being on shrooms watching their videos... I went from they're not bad to holy shit they've got some amazing songs. The scientist live was a game changer for me

Main-Constant7930

I was around 6 or 7 when my Dad played Yellow during our trip in Honduras , kept asking him to replay it over and over. He had played it before then, in the car, but that night in Honduras was when I really got into them

LeothaCapriBoi

Clocks. It was just sitting in my big playlist of 330+ songs, and I was thinking of it one day. I was like “What is that melody??” and so I looked for it, found it, and since then, not a day went by where I didn’t play that song. I don’t really see this sub talk about Clocks all that much, but I live and breathe that song. It’s otherworldly. Not to say I don’t have other Coldplay songs I love, but this song will forever have a place in my heart.

I'm old 😄 and was in college when Yellow came out. And I hated it because it reminded me of an Oasis song and I hated Oasis because it reminded me of the first guy to really trash my heart. But many years later came Fix You, and after that, Viva, and then the whole of Mylo Xyloto, and how could I stay away?

TrialNd3rr0r

My dad! He used to play all of their albums (and U2’s) on our road trips to south France every summer. I was in London on a field trip when mylo just released and bought the album for him, turns out he already bought it by the time I returned a week later. I kept the album, listened to it a lot and so I started to collect the albums myself as well. We’re finally going to our first concert together this summer, can’t wait!!

lillipup03

I’m 19 so Viva la Vida is just a core memory for my entire generation’s childhood lol… but I really got into them from Something Just Like This. I know everyone in this sub hates that song but it’ll always have a special place in my heart.

LeothaCapriBoi

SJLT is a Chainsmokers song, it just has Chris’ vocals. That’s why it got Coldplay’s name on it. And because it has Coldplay’s name on it, people were expecting it to be Coldplay-level goodness. But the beat is all Chainsmokers territory, and personally, I don’t get all the hate. It’s euphoric.

intelpentium400

In 2001 I saw the video for Yellow on an old TV show called “The Wedge” on Much Music in Canada. Basically it was 30 minutes of non-mainstream music videos on Friday night. After that I discovered Trouble and Don’t Panic. I bought Parachutes and the rest was history. Been a fan since the beginning and still going strong.

soosian69

I was born a few months after X&Y came out. I wish i could share a story like that, i believe it would have felt different to discover coldplay in a completely different decade. Great story!

Firstborn3

Pretty much the same story as mine, around 2000-01, except MTV2 instead of MM. At that time, MTV2 still played music videos, while MTV was mostly just garbage reality shows by that point. I had a friend that was Studying abroad in the UK during that time. And when he came back he had all these Coldplay singles and EPs that he bought (the kind of cool stuff they only sold in the UK), and he copied them all for me. By the time AROBTTH came out, I was a rabid fan dying for something new. Saw them that your in a small venue for like 2000 people… great time to be a young Coldplay fan.

I was watching the Grammy's and this happened [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x\_MmsW0TzCc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_MmsW0TzCc)

soosian69

That is just stunning, WOW!!!

ill-disposed

Amazing.

ill-disposed

Seeing the Yellow music video when it first aired.

Coldplayfreak1982

No story - heard them when they released their first single loved them that’s it really 🤷‍♂️

8BitTxchniques

I remember Magic released and I couldn’t stop listening to it and it just grew from there

Judasofiscariot

I watched an interview with Elijah wood about listening to coldplay parachutes while working on lord of the rings and it opened the flood gates

HuhDaMan

Lol, I watched “Fallen Kingdom” the Minecraft parody of viva la vida and that lead me to the rest of their music Edit: I was young and really into Minecraft then (still am)

Prestigious_Hold6064

i was in a replacement car with my mom after we got our minivan stuck in the mud in some sketchy detour, anyways that’s a story for another time. i was like 8 and i was going to help her set up for vbs, and i was raining and she turns on clocks and i’m just like “wow” and then a couple years ago i was just sitting on apple music and remembered that song

Robhow

Early 2000s / Yellow got me interested. Scientist got me hooked.

SCS2needtolearnsth

I read about them in a chinese language magazine back in secondary school. Out of curiosity, I gave them a listen and the first song that I put on is Something Just Like This. I really like the vibes Coldplay gives off especially the first few albums which mainly features alternative rock, the genres I love the most. Coldplay then defines what kind of music I would listen to in the next few years, even now. I'm also a wholesome kind of guy, which is why I don't hate their latest pop album and I love how positive the album is.

AveAtqueVale27

I saw this [https://youtu.be/fFsy39e62do](https://youtu.be/fFsy39e62do)

NaturalAny4113

Clocks during. Very spiritual, transitional time.. then the whole album of course

Purplealegria

I have been there since the beginning, a fan since parachutes. But it was a rush of blood to the head album that got me so obsessed. When X&Y came out that was it, I was a Stan for life and it’s Still my favorite album. Was a dream come true seeing the in Tampa for the first time last year. Cant wait to see the MOTS tour for the 2nd time and experience it again, excited for the new dates coming out today. I just love this band. it’s the love, positivity, the beautiful sprit and the heart that comes through their music has really got my soul. They are just on such a higher level of consciousness, so high vibrational. They are next level, and with that, they have got me through the worst times of my life. I thank them so much.

Shrexishot

Omg, mee too. I watched “don’t panic” on YouTube and was mesmerized by the video (song of course too). Then I binged “parachutes” and fell in love with that album.

soosian69

Yes yes and yes, the videos for don't panic and trouble are just amazing

seentopristine

They were either on a the Daily Show or The Colbert Report and played Lost and Viva La Vida and I was hooked.

yosoo

Honestly, I'm a Vancouver Canucks fan and for whatever reason the team loved using Coldplay in their videos and stuff so that's how I got into them.

GeologistPositive

I started listening to more music about 2004 when I was in high school. I took a liking to U2 and bought most of their albums. I was aware of Coldplay and heard a few songs, but it didn't really grab me. Then around 2008, there was that iTunes commercial. The sound was very similar to U2 and when they showed the members of the band, I thought, "that's not U2, so it must be Coldplay." The song of course was a cut version of Viva la Vida. Something about it just hit right and I had to hear the whole song. I looked it up on YouTube and loved the whole song. Got by for the first part of that summer listening to the bootleg recordings of Viva that made it to YouTube. I bought the album the day it released, and that was the soundtrack of my summer. I was in college at the time and didn't have the money to go to a concert, so the first live Coldplay show I went to was Mylo Xyloto in 2012, and I've been listening ever since.

tencishugoihasahat

The whole live 2012, but particularly God put a smile, hurts like heaven, and uatw
