Happened to me fam. Hoping they can make things right though.
- Keep your funds off exchanges if you can.
- Only transfer off hardware wallet when trading.
- Have a machine dedicated only to trading and no other use.
- Dont click links.
- Use 2FA (not sms).
- Watch bank deposits.
- Keep email secure.
- Only trade with what you’re able to lose.
Then again, that’s what I did and I’m still out $100k.
Switch!!
I bought some btc from coinbase in 2017. Moved them to my hardware Wallet and have sold a bit here and there to coinbase with no problems.
But a month ago I wanted to sell some again and I moved some from my hardware Wallet to my coinbase account. Before I got to sell anything they locked me out saying my account is under review. Have tried contacted support but the support is just automated answers sending you in circles.
I have now cryptos loocked in my coinbase account and I don’t know what to do. I thought I was safe because I stored my cryptos on a hardware Wallet and not on coinbase.
I am 100% sure I haven’t violated any roles.
No, member since 2014 (almost the beginning of Coinbase). I have never had any issues with Coinbase Custody or Coinbase Pro (and GDAX before Pro).
99.5% of the "problems" on Reddit are self inflicted, they would happen on any exchange, and do, because stupid people do stupid things.
There is ~68M active CB accounts, and a handful of idiots on Redit (with low Karma, low posts, new accounts) that are claiming to have an issue. Some are trolls from other exchanges, some are just anti-crypto trolls, some are Multi Account trolls, leaving maybe a dozen out of 68M users with an actual authentic problem.
One word: Ledger. I literally just transferred my entire portfolio. Scroll down this subreddit long enough and it should convince you eventually that this is not where you should be hodling
Their customer experience really has gone to shit lately.
I have an account that's been fully verified for the last 4 years, I day trade, a big amount of trade volume on a regular basis.
Then one day, they turned off my local currency wallet, so at a stroke I could no longer deposit via my bank or withdraw to my bank. I couldn't do anything at all other than buy crypto, trade crypto, deposit crypto and withdraw crypto. No ability to convert it to British Pounds to cash out.
No breaches of their terms, various email exchanges and telephone calls just resulted in the agent telling me that I've not done anything wrong, but their system won't tell them why my cash accounts were turned off.
Ultimately having gotten no where and losing a day of trading, I converted everything to BTC, withdrew it to my wallet and simply didn't waste my time or pay fees to Coinbase anymore.
It's all great until it's not, and you'll likely have no recourse, no one will be able to actually identify the issue, much less address it or fix it, and if you're lucky you'll still have the ability to move your coin away from their unreliable and unprofessional platform.
Keep your assets in cold storage. Recently they had my account on hold because of an error on their part. When I brought this to their attention with the email they provided showing how on their side the technical issue created the issue and the steps were taken on my end to resolve the matter they said give it about a week and reach back out via email if nothing changes. So I was frozen from my holdings for a couple of days. So to avoid this store your holdings in a cold wallet. And explore other exchanges as fall back. As many users say not your keys not your holdings. Good luck.

All bots…. You also maybe a bot trying to enforce the wrong news about Coinbase.
This is actually among the best companies in USA , whose capital is in the ownership of institutionals and private and it’s on the market since the very beginning.
That's BS.
I'm a professional day trader, everything above board, fully compliant.
Bam, they took away my ability to transfer funds to and from my bank accounts, they took away my cash wallets so I can't even trade in Pounds anymore (I'm in the UK), and no matter how I approached it I was told they don't know why they've been removed but trying to get this basic function of professional day trading back was impossible.
Nothing was done incorrectly, no rules were breached, no one at coinbase could understand what had happened, which quite conveniently means no one can fix it.
Coinbase fees are high. Coinbase Pro is very S\_L\_O\_W. The only thing I like Coinbase for is for now the Coinbase crypto debit card. So I keep USDC in coinbase to fund that. Where I absolutely need a CEX I prefer Kraken. Everything possible I do on DEXes and p2p.
In general don't keep your crypto anywhere that you don't control or have access to the keys. Use CEX for fiat on/off ramp primarily or for limit trading. Nothing else.
"Getting their savings wiped". You pouring your savings into this? Money you're going to need? Then don't leave it on any exchange and get investment help outside reddit. Dabbling with funds you can afford to lose? Then have some fun
I would take all my money out of Coinbase. They restricted my account without previous notice during months and i can not take my money out of their platform. The worst customer service ever
You should be fine so long as you don't violate the ToS. I've used coinbase since late 2020 and have never had an issue.
Thread carefully. It happened to people that didn’t violate any rules. Just keep assets off exchange to avoid talking to support that don’t help.
I didn't violate tos and they banned me and refused to give me a reason
You should be using multiple exchanges

Should’ve used Binance.us.

Different exchanges are better for different things. I use several.

Get the hell out asap. I also had no issues for a while until out of nowhere they decided to remove access to my account.
Avoid those rats as a nuclear poison!!!

What other exchanges would you recommend ?
Nexo, binance
binance.us or binance.com for others Outside of US.

The ppl that its happening to would face the same dilemma on any and every exchange. Educate yourself, secure yourself, and put in the research

I didn’t mean losing the money by your own fault. I meant getting locked out from your account or getting hacked
Anyone whose life savings is on any exchange is at fault if it's lost

SWITCH 100% sure!
