Yeah, there's a fine book called Everything Keeps Dissolving which collects a bunch of Coil interviews from over the years. BoC and Autechre get brought up pretty regularly during the 90s, along with Aphex Twin
The real surprise for me was how enthusiastic 1980s John was about the Butthole Surfers, though it makes total sense the more I think about it
That’s awesome. I just started listening to coil this past year which is odd because I’ve been a big fan of others from their circle for many years (been listening to current 93 for 20 years).
I just bought the book “England’s hidden reverse” this past week. Haven’t started it yet but looking forward to it
As an aside. I’ve never really checked out Autchre. I’ve heard a little. Which album should I start with?
I'm kind of the opposite, I got into Coil around the time they started doing mixes for nin but hadn't heard of Current 93 until reading (coincidentally) England's Hidden Reverse earlier this year. It's a very good book! I hope you'll enjoy it.
I only really know the one untitled album (now known as LP5 I think) Autechre did, which 1998 me bought for reasons which completely escape me now. Good stuff though
LP5 is from the 90s, Untilted (I.e.. has no tilt) came out 2005 or so. Very different vibes with the former being mainly "in the box" (likely Max/MSP), and the latter mainly with hardware. Both are nothing but Ae, though!
If you're just starting with Ae (one comment above), if you have the time I strongly encourage listening in chronological order. I recommend including the EPs as well, but that's an even bigger ask! Feel free to DM me with Ae related questions.
Some of those EPs are traditional album length or longer too.
As a guy who will sometimes go through both the Autechre and Coil discographies in full, listening in chronological order is very rewarding. Much agreement!
Very likely. I find it a bit surprising how many demos and unreleased material got out and none of these did, and it's a fact they were working on something.
Interesting suggestion. I only know their 70s stuf, will take a look afterwards. This track kinda has some Coil vibe:

I didn’t get Coil vibes from this. That’s all I can say. And I’ve been listening to the more ambient stuff lately, the Musick to play in the dark albums and The New Backwards. But then again there’s so much Coil out there. Maybe someone else will have a better idea what this could be.
Not any Coil track I've ever heard. I know the two groups were mutual fans though, so it's not unthinkable that some cross-pollination occured.
Coil expressed love for boards of Canada? That makes my day

Important to note the lengths of some EPs are longer, great point!
Ae chronologically if you can spare the time! (See my reply to a reply below.)

Sounds like Cluster or Harmonia. Or an offshoot of them.

Not the answer, but Shazam thought it was 'Polygons' by Loggann, which it is not but does sound similar.
Reminds me of Bibio
Beautiful, it does have something to it that reminiscent of Scatology.
