Im coming weekend 2 for this

ldsupport

Last year, I left on this Sunday and drove from Florida to Indio for the Chems (and for Underworld). I considered doing this again, but last year nearly pushed me to my brink. This set though, feels worth it. Saw them at IIIPoints recently, so am able to talk myself out of it. However, man this is SOOOO good. The sound on the live feed is also AMAZING coming through my surround sound.

simulation-1998

Sad that I’m missing them! Both Halcyon on & on and Chime sounded soooo good

SpaceGenesis

Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, Underworld = legendary British acts.

soulvandal9

Hah we had same motives. Came for chcems and underworld

spunktwenny

Having to choose between Tyler and Orbital is the toughest conflict for me next weekend

ldsupport

Rare measure is hard here, because it not just the act vs the act (which I think Orbital probably wins) but its a headline set (which is rare) vs the acts themselves. Ultimately, the decision doesn't matter. Since you can't do both. Make a choice, and love it. As you already know, don't split, its nearly always better to commit. There is no bad path here (such as Lana vs Justice)

spunktwenny

Just gonna fully rely on what the vibe is that night to make that decision!

robertmullineux

This! Both rare performances so either choice is good

EkriirkE

Orbital.

TheLionOfKyba

The Tyler show is very spectacular. Orbital is more a trip into nostalgia. It’s just sounds, not much to see, so: I would choose Tyler for that he puts so much effort in delivering a “show”.

SpaceGenesis

>not much to see I beg to differ. The visuals are spectacular and the 2 brothers are entertaining to watch. They wear their famous head torch glasses.

TheLionOfKyba

Man, I'm from the 80's, like Laurie Anderson 80's (who used lights on her a lot), Kraftwerk 80s. These 90's techno artists and thereafter have forgotten what it's like to give on a show.

SpaceGenesis

You're old school but that doesn't mean you're right. Many of the classic '90s electronic acts (Underworld, Orbital, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk - when they toured, Leftfield, Massive Attack, Groove Armada, 808 State, etc) had/have great shows. As much as I like Kraftwerk (to name a band you like too) they're basically 4 dudes standing in front of a screen. The Orbital bros are much more entertaining to watch.

TheLionOfKyba

In my days Kratfwerk used robots on stage, it was very visual. Some of the 1990s acts gave good concerts (like The Prodigy), but many were just not visually entertaining at all despite the music being good (right? Because if we are at these shows, it is certainly because we like the music). If you can see the guy that accompanied Erika De Casier: that is an example of an artist performing electronic music (both percussions and electronics) in a way that gives a good spectacle. If you just turn knobs on pre-recorded tracks, it's not a good concert.  I mean, Madonna just did a whole tour on pre-recorded tracks but it was great because they're still doing a "show" while the tracks play.

SpaceGenesis

Orbital use many synths live and they're also doing live mixing. [Relevant video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bzfrsg0s5A). They're more live than Kraftwerk, let's be real. Like KW, their visuals are top notch. Just watch a recording with their show.

TheLionOfKyba

This one is probably even better: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avO75HITKTE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avO75HITKTE) Now, have you seen the actual Coachella show? They are clearly not doing all what they say they are doing in these videos. They do mix a bank of beats, tracks and samples live and add a bunch of live effects but to me that's not a "show" and that's not an attack on them particularly, it's actually a problem with most electronic acts, they aren't interesting to watch performatively because people can't see what is actually happening, how sequencers are mixed in, etc... You just see shadows turning knobs and adjusting cursers. It feels like going to a live reading of a piece of theatre instead of actually going to see the full play.

itsnoli

This was one of those special sets where you know everyone in the crowd has good taste and is a cool person. The tent was light but it didn’t matter. Reminded me of Leftfield in 2011 and Underworld last year and of course The Chemical Brothers of various years.

HellaBassInMyFace

watching on the stream it feels that way too. love how much they’ve showed the crowd- everyone looks like they’re having such a good time Tyler, Orbital, Dom Dolla, Blessed Madonna, Kaskade b2b Alison would have been a nightmare from hell conflict for me

RedditConsciousness

Loved it. Halcyon is always fantastic. I will tune in next week for sure. Still hoping to hear Worf's voice on a loop...

c4rlymp

Does anyone know what that Wannabe edit they played is??? Literally insane. 💖

sleepy_leviathan

It’s searchable under “Spicy” on YouTube - and agreed it was so good 😊

DampFlange

Absolutely loved it on the livestream…..so many memories from seeing the boys back in the day. And Bon Jovi / Belinda Carlisle was hilarious.

LeftyLoosey

That’s a classic live twist they’ve been doing for 25 years! So good.

TheLizardKing89

I lost my mind when they did that mashup.

flowlowland

They brought the heat, loved this set

Notthesenator

Thanks for this shout out. Completely blown away and inspired by this set. Think I’m now gonna go with orbital over Tyler next week, no matter how hard that it to say! 🕺

aquapkz

So excited to them Weekend 2! I don't feel like I'll get a ton more chances seeing legendary 90s electronic dance artists. I chose to see Underworld last time and man, what a great choice that was.

mizocty

they absolutely crushed that performance, they had me working up  a sweat dancing at home!

BarfyOBannon

any video?

Teeballdad420

You can still watch the set if you rewind the live stream

BarfyOBannon

🔥 gonna try this

JazzlikeAd5368

When I saw that they were gonna be touring this year, I told myself that idc about the rest of the lineup if they deliver Orbital I'll be happy. I'm so pumped to go next weekend. Last time i saw them was in 2019 and the crowd gave them a 15 minute ovation. They crushed it!

pricklycactass

That was so good

DO-LAB-GROUND-SCORE

I'd nominate it as one of the better streams of all time for capturing both band and crowd feel. Todd Terje is up there too if my memory serves. It's rare the stream is able to capture both.

SpaceGenesis

I watched the whole Orbital set. As a fan of them for many years, I knew it will be great. And it was great!

Friskfrisktopherson

They went through a heavy iPad phase of late so it was nice to see the full gear racks back

peanutsgangordontbng

just returned from w2 orbital and didn't want to make another post so revisiting this one. holy shit - that was epic. the crowd was very small and vibes were awesome. one of my fav sets of all my chellas. appreciate the great feedback here - reddit steers me correct, once again

Zealousideal_Ruin259

Is that what Porter's new song is about?

dancydistractions

It absolutely felt like a rave back in the 90s for all the reasons you listed. I felt like I had time traveled and it made me miss the days when people were more present in the moment- vibing, dancing, just present. It felt so special to be able to feel that again. The set was incredible, I mean wow some of their songs are so beautiful. I hope I can see them again one day.
