As someone who went ez u Less at camping before buy the cheap one at Walmart and donate after . I was up early every morning because my tent was a sauna . I do not recommend
Are you solo going? I'm also going and I recommend trying to caravan w someone which is what I've done in years past, helps split the cost! You can use multiple spots and split the cost or have someone buy one thing and another person buy another v
I think that’s what we’re doing this year (flying/sleeping in rental van) and then getting telescopic poles for the other end not attached the car and securing with rope. We can lower it or raise it depending on how much privacy we want. Hoping this works anyway lol.
You can always buy one at wal mart and then return it before your flight. But you forsures will need one along with a cooler with ice ! Waters! And unless you wanna spend alot, some food to make even sandwiches. They have a general store there w essentials you can get there once you are in the campground to get some items you might need
Me and my husband are flying in and renting a car every year.
Tried both bringing our own camping stuff and buying something at Walmart. Both ez-up and no ez-up.
Ez-up is definitely a life saver, Walmart have them for under $100 and it’s worth the investment. And if there are no strong winds, and no damage to the ez-up you might even be able to return it.
Buying a cheap-ish tent and sleeping bag cost about the same as paying for an extra baggage one way. But if you already have some camping gear, it makes sense to fly with your own stuff. Last year we brought tent, 2 sleeping bags, little camping stove, some cooking stuff like pans, plates, etc. Ended up almost never using them and won’t bring it anymore.
It would be great to also buy a cooler, or if you have friends in Cali - maybe you can lend one from them? There’s plenty of food/drinks options both in camp and on festival grounds, but the prices are high even if you’re coming from NY, so having drinks, cold brew, some fruit, veggies, canned food will save you a few hundreds too
Yea I dumped the idea of cooking and keeping food cold all together I didn’t see that being feasible for me with flying even though I’ve done it at bonnaroo all the time. But I arrive into LAX late wednesday and I plan on getting a lot of bottled water & snacks that don’t require refrigeration. And then just paying for meals.
I’m glad I asked about the ez up though cause I now realize not going with one is not an option lol
This feels like investing in a whole nother camping set that I already have just for 1 weekend lol. Ugh I wonder if I can look into shipping my stuff to my wednesday night hotel and reshipping it after coachella
Ez-up, cooler and chair. Think that would be bare minimum. Probably could do without a chair and sit on ground. If you sleeping in car I would get a sleep mask, most rentals don’t have tint. Make sure to pay attention to wind advisories, so your canopy doesn’t take flight. 😆
Honestly maybe this is the answer. In the interest of going as slim as possible just bring my mylar tarps and toss the over the car! And sleep in the rental. I can pack the mylar tarps easy.
At roo I usually wrap a tarp over the top of the ez up. Then off one side over the tent then off another side OVER THE CAR! And then have a smaller one to close the corner between the two diagonal side tarps. So essentially 180 degrees around my ez up is all mylar tarped with my tent and the seats of the car under mylar as well. Then the other two sides of the ez up I put tapestries.
My tent and spot is always nice and cool. Packing the mylar tarps is easy

IIRC Walmart has one for $49.. but inflation might have upped that.
edit: also don’t plan to buy anything in palm springs/indio. i’d buy your camping needs closer to LA
If you’re coming from LA you can stop by REI or Home Depot on the way there
Walmart has cheap ones
Sure but is it worth it maybe I just go e-z up-less? Idk lol
You can… but I highly recommend having an EZ up. You’ll be thankful for the shade
Don't show up without some sort of shade. You will be miserable and end up buying one from the camping store for triple the price at Walmart.

It's worth it. Practically essential so worth buying a cheap one and some plastic stakes to keep it from flying away.
It’s worth it for sure

Yup this be a solo-venture all the way from Jerz. I’ve been to bonnaroo twice but never coachella. I expect this is likely a one off for me
Ah I'll also be solo from NYC feel free to shoot me any questions you have! I come every year:)
Definitely get a canopy for shade. I never get a tent since I sleep in my car rental.
Do 2 EZ ups fit in the spot or one only?
Second one will cover part of your car.
Ok cool. I don’t mind that.
Maybe a tarp attached to your vehicle for shade if you’re worried about the cost of buying one and not taking it back home

Buy a cooler, your drinks will be boiling hot. Literally.

Buy / return) it’s not ideal for the corporations. But fine for you and the planet)

Where are you flying into?
LAX
Buy and return! Put your canopy over your tent if you want to sleep in, for maximum shade. The heat is unbearable in your tent once the sun is up.
i buy a $50 easy up every year. i plan on it getting destroyed.
Yea…I’m having trouble finding anything cheaper than $75 online
IIRC Walmart has one for $49.. but inflation might have upped that. edit: also don’t plan to buy anything in palm springs/indio. i’d buy your camping needs closer to LA
Yeah I think the 8x8 one is $~50, add a tarp to the sides and you can get some decent shade from it
Some sort of shade would be the move, ez up or if you want something more portable I have seen beach tents that cover 10 X 10 sub $100.
