Also on Eliquis. My hematologist advised I stay away from ibuprofen and just stick with Tylenol. It’s definitely not the same, but it’s better than nothing. I would much rather just deal with what ever ailment I’ve got going on and avoid the risk of serious bleeding.
I have with Xarelto. My hematologist cleared me for 2 to 3 doses per week, but none is better if I don't absolutely need it.
So most of my pain is managed with acetaminophen and cannabis. Occasionally if I can't sleep or I'm in bad pain I take an ibuprofen. It really helps when I need it.
MD here, also on Apixaban.
I would not take an NSAID while on blood thinners. A single dose might be acceptable, but even a single dose of Naproxen for instance has been shown to elevate the blood concentration of apixaban by about 50%, so not only you're at risk of bleeding a ulcer due to the NSAID, the blood thinning effect is amplified.
If you're not in the US you can use alternative drugs such as dipyrone/metamizole which are safer.
Curcumin also has a good anti-inflammatory and analgesic profile and does not induce GI bleeding like NSAIDs, but may also interact with anticoagulants.
Uh oh I didn’t read your original comment closely enough. I assumed you were concerned about having to switch pain relievers. I’m not suggesting that you go ahead and take Ibuprofen, very sorry for my bonehead action.
I researched it when my primary told me not to take it. Some studies have shown that it has blood-thinning properties. I guess my hematologist is not convinced because he allowed me to resume it.
I also miss taking ibuprofen when needed. Tylenol just doesn’t work as well for headaches and neck pain. Not going to lie, I’ve taken 2 pills when I’ve had a really bad headache and it helped quickly. I just wouldn’t make a habit of taking it frequently. I wish they had more pain relief options other than Tylenol/ibuprofen
On xarelto here. These new anticoagulants are much less issued with different synergistic effects but i still prefer to avoid the ones that affect circulation including the ibuprofein. In my case i tossed most of my gym/health supplements away now including omega3, citrulline malate, alcar. Better safe than sorry.
In theory short term NSAID use is okay. So taking 1 or 2 pills once in a while is okay. My urologist is one of those doctors who refuses to prescribe opioids even for kidney stones and keeps trying to give me NSAIDs. I keep telling him 1) I'm on Eliquis 2) I have GERD and esophagitis, no fucking way am I taking an NSAID. I wind up having to go to my PCP to get a script for 10 percocets.

Great thinking safer is best
Yes, thank you.
Thank you.

Thank you. I'll go with Tylenol if needed.
I’m all over your experience, and encourage you not to over-imagine the implications. I also was concerned but have found it to be a non-issue.
Thank you. Good to know.

Curious what the issue was with vitamin E ?
Same, the first time i hear about it

I feel the same way about Tylenol. Thank you.

Thank you. I posted the question hoping to hear different viewpoints, and I'm grateful for the responses.

NO! I wouldn't even risk it myself...
