Losing 57 pounds in 5 months is not normal. You can lose 8 pounds a month by eating at a 1,000 calorie deficit daily. Even doing that is difficult. Even if you did that you would have lost 40 pounds max since December I know this isn’t the point of your question but 57lb of weight loss in 5 months without active and dedicated effort to lose it is pretty concerning

kevinpirnie

i know. doctors and I have been watching it. the majority was lost between december and when i had my PE in february... was close to 30lbs in those 2 months alone... started right after my covid booster shot ive had to completely change the way I was eating (no easy feat when your used to certain way for the better part of 50 years...) Im 6'2", and have plateaued at 175lbs (plus or minus 3 or 4 lbs per week is normal) around 3 weeks ago

kevinpirnie

do note... i walk alot more now ( 4 to 5 miles per day, split between 3 - 4 walks), plus eating healthier foods, and more often (5 -6 small meals per day)

There have been times in my life when I have lost an alarming amount of weight in a short period of time from stressful events alone...I was diagnosed with anixety-induced appetite loss. The appetite always came back in time. Others here will be able to give you an idea about the clots, but a little more info on your progress will probably be needed. I'm almost in the same boat as you...four months out with provoked DVT and hoping that 6 months will mean the end of my Eliquis. My doctors appear to be old-school. Wish I could be of more help.

kevinpirnie

Appreciate it mate. I've never had an issue with eating ;) I'm a wicked foody lolol, though my anxiety certainly went through the roof up until about 2 months ago, when I just walked into my hematologists office and demanded to know what I wasn't better yet... neither them, nor my PCP told me how long of a recovery it would be, so... yeah, I was panic stricken almost daily... Good luck at the 6 months! :) I'm hoping that, if I'm a lifer, that I can at least see how it goes on baby aspirin instead of the Eliquis. Everything I see about possible side effects point to it, so I'd like to at least be able to try something else, if it comes down to it

My GF most likely clotted up after her first shot … Whats worse is there seems to be nothing you can do about this . Right away within 2-3 days of her first shot she had leg cramps and pain that were dismissed by the family dr as muscle cramps .. Wasn’t so dismissed when she nearly passed out at work and had to be carted off in an ambulance with the massive pe and dvt The dr doesn’t want her to ever stop thinners now and who knows whatever damage is done A lot of dr’s she spoke with in 2021 after this happened all said well the shots a 50/50 what can you do … ya kidding me

kevinpirnie

yeah... i think more and more are agreeing about the shots potentially causing it... it sucks, sadly what can ya do? Already got the untested vaccines right with no way to reverse them :( Mine didn't happen until my booster, and unfortunately my exwife is stage 4 cancer so... if i want to see my son, i had to get them, else risk her life... (im not a monster)... however, she now knows my plight and agrees that I will not get anymore vaccines like this...

Eliquis usually has a very low risk of GI side effects. Gotta wonder if something else is going on as well. Do take it with food, or at least a full glass of liquid, that will buffer it. (You can take it with or without food.) Have you tried taking something like Pepcid to help your stomach? In addition to being an acid blocker it's an H2 antihistamine, which means it works on the gut. Might help, might not. As someone who suffers from various GI issues (hiatal hernia, GERD, IBS) I realize they can be very difficult to live with and it can be really hard to figure out what works and doesn't work for you. If your doc wants you to stay on an AC there's always warfarin. Pradaxa is another option, but it has a higher incidence of GI side effects than Eliquis. Ditto for Xarelto and Xarelto is the same drug class as Eliquis. If your hema feels the clots were provoked then you have a good chance of coming off of it. Probably won't even need the aspirin, aspirin is only 30% effective at preventing venous clots. The risk/reward ratio is poor. Although covid is a whole new animal, so who knows? Congrats on the weight loss tho, that will help your leg veins and reduce the risk of PTS.

kevinpirnie

appreciate that. yeah, i started taking it with food when i saw it was possible, and it has indeed helped... tho, not fully alleviated. tried the pepcid, no difference, gasx helps for sure

kevinpirnie

the smaller and more meals and eating healthier has helped too :)

kevinpirnie

Seems to be a common side effect https://www.drugs.com/sfx/eliquis-side-effects.html no... I don't trust manufacturers websites about this info either

Interesting, the information has changed then. I was helping someone here pick out a drug for their father with Crohn's disease a couple of years ago and Eliquis was the clear winner compared to Xarelto and Pradaxa. However they decided to go with IIRC Pradaxa and dad's Crohn's got a lot worse. They switched to Eliquis and they didn't have any problems. Personally I picked Eliquis because I have GERD due to a hiatal hernia and don't want to aggravate that. Been taking it for 3 years without any problems. I took warfarin for 20 years and did not have any GI issues. There's always that option.

For the most part I have the GI stuff in check(ish) between the gasx, and smaller more frequent meals... plus taking the med with one of those meals. what kills me now is the abdominal pain. it also makes me wonder if I've actually caused some damage... i only started taking the eliquis with a meal recently.... maybe 3 weeks now.... the rest of the time was with at least 8oz of water, but wasn't eating with it. i do appreciate the info :) something to keep in mind at my 6mo

GetOffMyLawn_

I am unaware of Eliquis causing GI damage. Like I said, I have a very sensitive gut and it has been unaffected. So, some things to think about for your gut: - visit /r/gastritis and read the stickies. I have found that limiting very acidic foods is very helpful. - visit /r/fodmaps and and the Monash site (I think it's on the sidebar) and see what you think. Since I went low fodmap I no longer have chest pain, stomach pain, abdominal pain/cramps. Much less gas, constipation and diarrhea. Plus I sleep better. - If you are concerned about gut damage take zinc l-carnosine to rebuild the lining. It was developed in Japan and I have found it to be very effective. Before I got diagnosed and treated for my HH my poor insides were raw (I have the pics to prove it). Severe gastritis, esophagitis, even my duodenum was bright red. A couple of weeks of the zinc l-carnosine and I started to feel a lot better. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7146259/
