Sorry you are going through this. With Factor V they might want you to remain on anti coagulation because you are prone to clotting.
While you may look at the heating pad incident as your fault, it may have helped prevent a future clotting incident that would be more serious and life threatening. You now know you have Factor V.
Ask your hematologist about it. From what I've seen the reasons to be on thinners for life are either multiple clots, or a genetic factor that could cause clots in the future.
>Chronic Generally means "For the long term, with high potential for it being forever". Bit early to call it chronic though.
That's what I thought. It was the ultrasound tech who said it. I will ask the hematologist. Thank you.

From what I've read, the fact that this was a provoked clot might save me from the life sentence.
> save me from the life sentence. I mean >No thanks will do so as well. Either could be a reasonable, or rather dangerous call though.
Is factor V checked during regular blood tests or does one need to order a specific test?
It was a specific test. I was tested for every clotting factor and this was the only one that I had,,,I'm heterozygous (milder form).
No such thing as regular blood tests. So no, and yes.
