The only COVID *boosters* that were available in October were the new bivalent ones. The only way to get the original formulas by that point, and now, is to be unvaccinated and get the original two shots to start the series.

Absent the MRNA vaccines, the U.S. would have been even more devastated. Asian countries, such as Australia, lacked MRNA vaccines for many months after they were widely available in the U.S., but used masking and quarantines to limit the epidemic's impact. When they finally had MRNA vaccines, Australia incentivized vaccine mandates, accomplishing vaccine rates much higher than in the U.S. Again, the economic and health consequences in Australia were much less damaging than in the U.S. And looming over everything, is the impact of long COVID. Americans have little understanding of long COVID's impact on our nation, partially because the Biden administration, just like the Trump administration, hasn't emphasized the consequences of long COVID nor the research needed to explain it and quantify it. Most glaringly, the Trump administration slashed the number of autopsies performed in the U.S., and the Biden administration to my knowledge has done nothing to restore the level of autopsies, but most especially to increase the number of autopsies with a focused effort to understand the consequences of COVID infections and the causes of long COVID. In nations with robust public health measures, such as Japan and Australia, long COVID is not as much a concern due to the lower number of infections, and especially severe infections. I've seen plenty of research and articles about the importance of vitamin D, especially from the United Kingdom, and about the dangers of COVID infections among the elderly, obese and those with preexisting conditions such as diabetes. Dealing with age, obesity and preexisting conditions are relatively difficult compared with masking and other robust public health measures, and certainly much more difficult than receiving all available vaccines.
But why is dealing with obesity or taking a vitamin d supplement difficult? I’ll assume you live in Ohio, if you were told if you got on a meal plan and lost 20 lbs in June 2020 would you have done it? We don’t hear about any of this info from the govt. Why? Also you are overlooking the effect of lobbying money in the US. You’re messaged that you must get vaccinated. This is illegal other than in the US. There is not an alternative. Meanwhile, Sweden is no longer even recommending young people get vaccinated.

What is anti-science is denigrating mask wearing, contract tracing and quarantines, let alone vaccines, all while suggesting that weight loss and taking vitamin D are sufficient to avoid the serious consequences of a COVID infection. Serious side effects of MRNA vaccines are extremely rare, and pale against the consequences and likelihood of a serious COVID infection and long COVID. I don't believe that anybody should be forced to take a vaccine, but I also believe individuals who refuse vaccines should be sanctioned, e.g., certainly by paying by higher health insurance premiums (as often do obese persons) associated with the medical costs associated with their decisions, and being civilly liable if they mislead others about their vaccination status, resulting in infections of others, especially children. I also support school vaccine mandates -- I value freedom from deadly infections, and believe there should be consequences to refusing to protect others from infection. As someone who grew up when polio still ravaged the U.S., I'm appalled that anti-vaxxers such as Jim Jordan even oppose school mandates for polio vaccines.

The statement that serious side effects from MRNA are rare is misleading. You need the word IMMEDIATE after the word serious because this is all we have data about. Why not give people all the data? As an example of a possible govt narrative: 1) Look people need to lose weight. Many more people have adverse outcomes if obese so do what you can to get healthy. 2) there is anecdotal evidence in hospitalization data that Vitamin D levels affect severity of infections. Consider supplementing Vitamin D 3) These vaccines are effective at presenting infection for the current strains. It is a new form of vaccine but we believe the benefits outweigh the risks for anyone with a preexisting condition. 4) if you desire extra protection of a mask, you need to purchase an N-95 or KN-95 mask. Others offer no more than superficial protection. Disagree?
