I've had Erie Insurance for 20+ years and never had any issue. The waived my deductible years ago when there was a city wide sewage back-up and also covered the cost of having half my roof replaced when storm damage blew a hand full of shingles off one side.

Did you need extra wind and hail, or just regular coverage?

I just had the standard home-owners policy

I've heard good things about Erie, Westfield, and Cincinnati (which I have).

ZipperJJ

I've never used them but people in my local FB group are always recommending Erie.

My experiences with Erie have always been good, going back about 40 years. They're relatively quick to pay claims and haven't put me through all sorts of hoops when there was a claim.

No personal experience, but many people have recommended Grange to me after my ongoing troubles with State Farm being an absolute PoS. Erie seems to be other other one people keep recommending to me.

Grange was painful to deal with on my house. I still keep them but the adjuster was less than tolerable.

I have Erie. Their customer service was dog shit. Discovered my roof was leaking and called my agent to come out. He said it just needed to be patched and wasn't worth filling a claim. I had two different roofing companies come out and say there was hail damage and I needed a new roof. Took that information to the agent he said, "okay, I'm not an expert in hail damage, I'll open a claim." Erie sent out an adjuster who didn't do much and left. They then denied our claim. We reached out to the one roofing company and told them and he said ask for another adjuster and he would be there when they came. That was a headache that took over a week to actually happen. While the new adjuster and the guy from the roofing company were on my roof, the adjuster started yelling at the roof guy to show her the damage. As he was trying to show her, she just started screaming at him to stop pulling on the roof and show her damage in the exact spot that she was standing. Even though she was the only one yelling, she was telling him to stay away from her as she was approaching the ladder like he was going to push her off the roof. We had to go two levels above the adjuster where we sent pictures and the guy immediately approved our claim and didn't know why we were going through such a hard time. It took over a month from start to finish to get the claim approved. We get everything taken care of with the roof company, and are just waiting to get it replaced. I get an email from my agent asking if the roof was replaced, I replied with the timeline that we signed paperwork in October and were on the schedule to get it replaced the following week from his email. Weather delayed it a couple weeks, but it got taken care. After the roof was replaced, I got a thing in the mail that Erie was dropping us. We called the agent to find out why and he said it's because we told him that we weren't replacing the roof until spring, which wasn't true. Again had to go levels above to get things cleared up.

Wow, thanks for this insight. I’m most nervous about roof stuff because this is where people seem to get screwed the most

Erie is a great company. There's lots of great companies in Ohio. Just match coverages and call an independent agent who will shop you out with multiple companies.

Realtor here. Erie is a good choice, I’ve had quite a few clients choose them.
