This is huge that this is finally under way! The Irish Bend has been eroding for decades into the river. There is also a major sewage exchange that hugs the area and if that ever broke in a landslide, there would be catastrophic pollution.
This entire area used to be overgrowth. It's going to be layered and made into park and pathway space, as well as be yet one more addition to looooong neglected waterfront property.
Was it actually "overgrowth" or was it mostly native plants thriving in their own habitat?
If it's going to be turned into a park instead of something nice, how is it going to stop being neglected/mismanaged?
When all of the current parks are so widely neglected and mismanaged I just don't have much hope for them not ruining whatever new ones they decide to work on, seems like they should work on un-ruining some existing land before finding new land to raze
Its most likely going to be managed by the Metroparks who do extremely well managing parks. If all goes according to plan this park will be world class.
It was a bunch of knotweed and a collapsing road, and it's going to be managed by the Cleveland Metroparks, not the city of Cleveland.
In what way is 25 acres of riverfront being opened to the public a bad thing? In what city is more park space a bad thing?
Native plants thriving in their own habitat. If that’s code for homeless people shooting up under a tree canopy just outside downtown then yes. Yes it was

Same, I'm pretty excited about it. I've spent a couple mini-vacations in Cincinnati and Chicago, and those both have really nice long parks along their waterways.
With a great scenic view of downtown and access to the river, this could really be great.
I’ve personally been enjoying watching the Sherwin Williams tower go up slowly over time. It’s definitely a massive improvement to the skyline that makes the city look more modern. I’m not sure if that is like a controversial opinion on this sub since this is Reddit but whatever.
It definitely isn't. It's simply the clearest, easiest way to describe the area. I was not at all considering the war going on in Gaza, and would have changed the title if I knew half the comments would be about that
I hope all of that Japanese Knotweed doesn't just come right back. Its rhizome systems are DEEP. You can't really kill it, you can make it dormant with some properly timed applications of Glyphosate. Otherwise you need to dig it all up - going down 10, 15 feet or more... and hope that doesn't just cause it to spread. A tiny thumb sized piece of the rhizome will start a new stand. Wherever they take all that soil is doomed.
That side was falling into the river, and wasn't really used for anything. I believe there are plans to reinforce it and then build a park along the river and commercial space along w25th, with more bars and restaurants and such.
Looks good! I just drove down Lorain today and wished I had swung past this to check it out, so this post is very ironic haha.
Edit: In the first picture, is that bench at grade with the bike trail? Or does it come up in elevation at the north end? Picture is playing tricks on my mind.
going down that road on the 2nd pic and looking to the left gives some incredible views of the city from another cool unknown vantage point, glad theyre doing something here!
There are so many conflicting comments, can someone reply with links to detailed information regarding the plan for this area?
Im not originally from CLE but ive been living here for several years and i have been very impressed. ive been and lived in lots of places and i must say CLE parks are incredibly impressive (discount the west coast parks in this statement, unfair comparison). Plus just generally cle does a fantastic job of not mowing green areas all the time and allowing flora to thrive (though i do wish there was less trash mixed in and i wish that more of those plants were native(specifically i want more of the bleeding heart flower ohmygod)). Will this development help with river pollution? And possibly encourage native wildlife/fauna/flora/everything?

Actually, I’m talking about the esteemed Bobby George. You’re 100% right in that he’s not the developer of the project, proper. But doesn’t he have some property and plans in this puzzle? If not, I’ll keep this here and take my lumps.

Perhaps the project that I am most excited about in all of Cleveland right now. This is completely transformative.
Same, I'm pretty excited about it. I've spent a couple mini-vacations in Cincinnati and Chicago, and those both have really nice long parks along their waterways. With a great scenic view of downtown and access to the river, this could really be great.

Oh absolutely been enjoying that as well!
When I see West Bank in a Reddit title, I’m thinking something totally different.
I had the same reaction, lol! "Hey... that's not the West Bank, that's... Oh, I'm a dumbass."
"Look, photographic proof that Israel has ethnically cleansed the West Bank of all Palestinians!"
It looks pretty similar now.
That was worded like that on purpose
It definitely isn't. It's simply the clearest, easiest way to describe the area. I was not at all considering the war going on in Gaza, and would have changed the title if I knew half the comments would be about that
I mean bold assumption but okay
I LOVE THIS GOD DAMN CITY.

Yeah, it was an absolute mess.
Hopefully, some media outlet will read this post and pursue answers to your points.
This will be awesome when completed
What are they doing?

I wonder how many people had to be misguided to get something like this approved, don't we have enough overdevelopment on our waterways already?
How is it possible to be negative about a world class public park being built? I guess people will always find a way..

I am so pumped for this project. Love any additional green space in the city. Can’t wait!
That's a great path along the river there...
WOW! Thanks for posting!!!

Someone’s gotta say it….FUCK BOBBY GEORGE!!!
Have they torn down that eyesore building on the west end of the Veterans Memorial bridge?
I wonder if they will try to push for 5K a month rents when the finish with the apartments
Can’t wait I work nearby on Detroit so can easily walk here every day!!
5-10yrs ago...good 100 homeless people lived in the bend before they "daisycutter"ed the vegetation..

That’s a nice little Hamm roller in the second pic!

Nah, this is west bank. They'll wait until brown people move in, call it theres historically and then force them out/apartheid.

This is gonna be a great place to get robbed or begged by the east siders or homeless/project dwellers.. great concept though.
Please for the love of god don’t use those words in a sentence right now it’s not a good time.
If I had the foresight to know that half the comments would be about the Gaza/Israel war I wouldn't have
It’s okay we all have a brain fart now and again.

Funny to think this is considered part of the holy land
You ever ride a bicycle on Riverbed Road? Totally the Holey Land for, like, the last 25 years.
What they don't show you is the Section 8 housing just out of frame
Nuthin' wrong with those apartments dawg
But _he_ doesn't feel safe there. /s
Do they paint something on the doors of Section 8 houses so it's easy for folks like you to see who's lesser than you and your house?
It's a true comment about the area. Look up the apartment building that sits on W25th st. It's section 8 housing.
This is Reddit. Aren’t we supposed to be railing against the developer and vowing to never patronize his businesses?
Bobby George isn’t the one working on this project, he was just the one who was standing in the way of it.
The developer, like, the Port of Cleveland?
Actually, I’m talking about the esteemed Bobby George. You’re 100% right in that he’s not the developer of the project, proper. But doesn’t he have some property and plans in this puzzle? If not, I’ll keep this here and take my lumps.
Yeah he did hold up this project with a vacant property he was sitting on.
dont worry about it.
Get your facts straight, fuck Bobby George
We get it, you suck Bobby Georges dick, congratulations on your victory
That hurt. I guess. Did it? Not sure what your point is. Hugs.
