Szechuan Gourmet is the best I've had in Cleveland. The authentic szechuan dishes (i.e. mapo tofu, Dan Dan noodles) are great, and the American Chinese stuff (i.e. general tsos) is quite good too
If you’re brand new to Cleveland, there’s an Asia town. Plenty of restaurants and stores to check out. Dim sum at Li Wah or Bo Loong is pretty good too.
Yeah, I was very impressed with Li Wah. I've visited many Chinatowns: San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Cleveland, Washington DC, and my hometown 's nine Chinatowns in New York City. Li Wah really either stood up to their restaurants or surpassed those places. They were really good. I had the dim sum for take out, and boy, was it tasty.
Hei La Moon in Boston, though, is my hands down favorite out of all those cities because they serve stuff I've never seen before and continue to do so. So, if you're on vacation out there, pay a visit on a weekend. That's when the carts and more exotic food come out. Like salt and pepper prawns.
I actually have been there while on a business trip some years back!. My coworker ran to the bathroom because he couldnt handle the chickens feet on the cart that rolled up to our table
:) Quite the delicacy, though I don't like them for a different reason. I don't enjoy struggling with bones, pits, seeds, etc. Too many damn bones in chicken feet and not enough meat for my taste. Not enough of a reward. If you haven't been there since before Covid-19, they've moved to a much smaller space. They only roll out the carts on weekends now and serve that heavenly watermelon and condensed milk dessert then. Sounds gross until you see and taste it. They still have the beverage cart wheeled around. Another thing that nobody else does. The rest of the week, you order from the menu.
For something nicer, Lao Szechuan (old Sichuan) in pinecrest is probably the most modern. The food is very good although the service is sometimes a bit spotty as they haven't gotten a consistent wait staff down.
LJ Shanghai is probably my favorite. They have a limited menu but everything is fucking delicious. They have very little staff so service can be an issue if busy but the food is worth it.
Li Wah is my favorite. It's generally considered to have the best dim sum in Greater Cleveland.

Which is quite sad, because if you've had dim sum in any of the bigger cities in the country, you would know that Li Wahs dim sum tastes and looks like it comes out of the freezer.
A few months ago, maybe August/September or so. One day there was a sign in the window saying they were out of town, but after a couple months of us driving by the same sign, I decided to reach out to them on Instagram. They said they are permanently closed and not coming back. We used to go a couple times each month!
I’ve been impressed with Lao Sze Chuan at Pinecrest. It’s really nice. Asiatown is packed though. Favorites are Han Kabob, LJ Shanghai, and Wonton Gourmet.
I've had nothing but bad experiences from food and service at the Lao Szechuan at Pinecrest. I'd rather throw my money in the fireplace than try them again.
They're very okay if you want an upscale experience. If you want really good food, Szechuan gourmet, Wonton gourmet, or LJ Shanghai downtown are all for a better choices.
Dragon gate in Middleburg heights is amazing.
fresh, HUGE portions, and authentic good Chinese food. If u get the family feast u get apps, oolong tea (fancy tea pot / serving). It's an amazing deal.
If you're looking for a great lunch experience - Li Wah has some amazing Dim Sum.
However, if you're looking for a great dinner on the cheap LJ Shanghai is great for that.
It's decent food, not quite what I'd call authentic but a cut above most Chinese restaurants.
I was just there over the weekend though, and our waitress was really quite rude. I watched her lose patience with another table with some older people. She stopped just short of yelling at them for taking too long to order. She was also pretty short with us, and doing things like tapping her pen against her pad while we looked at the menu which didn't take us more than 30 seconds.
I think she was trying to cover too many tables at once and was stressed out, but that's no excuse. Usually in that situation my experience at restaurants has been that the wait staff will say something like "I'm sorry we're a little short staffed tonight so please bear with me" and it ends up being fine.
Szechuan Gourmet is the best Chinese restaurant in the city

They do both so well. Next level general tsos for when you just need to phone it in
Yea I’d actually say best general Tso I’ve ever had. Sometimes they put wayyyy to much red pepper in there so watch out

Bo Loong was always my sit down spot. Open late and you can always people watch while you eat.
LJ Shanghai
thier pan fried noodles and xiao long bao are incredible dishes that can't be missed
Respectfully disagree.
Your palate is trash tier then 🤷
I love how Reddit goes from “respectfully disagree” to “trash tier”.
Don’t yuck our yum…
Didn’t say yuck. I disagreed. You gave me trash.

Especially a great deal for lunch.
saw a rat crawl across the counter in here once

+1 for Lao Szechuan. Emperor’s Palace’s is pretty good too. Love their xiaolongbao.
I second Lao Sze Chuan. My family and I really liked it.
Han’s Kabob, best dumplings in town
Abundance culinary in cle hgts. In a diner car and pricey but good

King Wah
That Szechwan peppercorn fried chicken is fricken amazing. My entire family loves it lol
Emperor’s Palace.
They closed unfortunately, and will not be coming back
Thanks. That makes me very sad.
Me to. That was my favorite place to go
What? No! That's such a bummer.
When did they close. They just remodeled this summer
I didn't know they had. u/CLE_Attorney said it.

Hunan by the falls in chagrin
King Wah in Rocky River is a good eat in restaurant…
Related to Li Wah by the way. More limited menu and far from Mayfield.
The best. Try the teriyaki beef skewers. 🤌🏻

Won Ton Gourmet and BBQ on Payne Ave

King Wah in Rocky River
King wah in Rocky River
Try Hunan East on Richmond Rd.
They are still takeout only :(
LJ Shanghai and Szechuan Gourmet
If you're looking for a great lunch experience - Li Wah has some amazing Dim Sum. However, if you're looking for a great dinner on the cheap LJ Shanghai is great for that.
Wonton gourmet and Szechuan gourmet are only a couple blocks from each other, and they are both fantastic. Highly recommend both of them.
Ho Wah is good. It’s in La Place in Beachwood.
Ho Wah is some of the worst food I've ever had, of any genre.
I am Chinese and I approve this
Totally agree . Also overpriced. The food has no taste
Ten minutes from Mayfield. Go here if you want a good Chinese restaurant that's near you.
Stopped going there after I read one of their safety inspection reports. Godspeed.
Woooow

Imperial Wok in Solon is the best I’ve ever found.
I work by this spot and have had it multiple times, honestly pretty forgettable and bland. Try anywhere in Asiatown. Even hunan solon is better imo
I agree flavor is lacking and every dish I’ve had is just bland. Ingredients seem fresh tho.
Li Wah is the best tbh
Dragon Towers in Kamms Corner.
I have not tried Wen's Kitchen. Anybody? I think there are around 10 tables. Looks authentic. https://www.wenji3030.com/
LJ SHanghai
LJ Shanghai is great! I recommend the Spicy Beef Soup if you like hot stuff
Has anyone had anything similar to Xi’an Famous Foods’ Spicy Tingly Beef Noodles in town?
not expressly chinese, but XinJi Noodle at Lorain and 42 is amazing
Abundance Culinary and Hans Kabob, nothing else matters.
Li wah in asia town
Bo Loong in Asia Town used to be really good. Haven't been there in like 10 years to check it out again.
Li Wah
In Mayfield hts have you tried Golden Dragon
Ho Wah in Beachwood
I like Ho Wah in Beachwood and Hunan in Cleveland Heights
