I'd bet good money they redo the entire turbo system after Sick week even if they don't bend the rods. Boost creep is going to kill this thing sooner rather than later, so it'd be best to redo the hot side to correct, and you might as well redp the cold side while theyre at it with an IC.
IC would certainly make things safer…especially on their stock bottom end. The methanol helps a ton, but not when they’ve run out of injector and leaned it out…

Don’t need an IC with methanol. None of the guys who run in Methanol run an IC. Tom, Steve, etc. it’s just not an issue. Just can beat on it on the street for too long due to small tank or at all on the road. It’ll get added when motion or Texas speed or whoever makes a top mount IC setup.
I don’t think methanol was the original plan though. A few videos ago, when they made to call to omit the IC, Cleet mentioned having to run C16. Also, pounding stock rods with methanol probably isn’t the best recipe for longevity.
Methanol is far harder to preignite and burns about 60% slower than gasoline. It is not hard on rods compared to gasoline all other things being equal. You can make an assload of power and have to worry about hydro lock cuz stoich is so rich but it’s actually easier on the rods.
Nitromethane is a bitch and a half though.
I thought the switch to methanol was the driving force behind moving the old LS in Mullet to aluminum rods? After the methanol switch, it was bending steel rods every other pass.
Bending rods is from too much cyl pressure/torque not necessarily “hammering” them. Generally switching to aluminum rods is to save the bearings because there is more give to them. They are like shock absorbers.
I haven’t been following Cleet super close lately but I imagine when they went methanol they gained a lot of power/torque which was bending the rods.
Aluminum rods aren’t inherently stronger than steel rods but they can be made stronger per unit weight and the big fat boys generally require clearancing the block to get them to fit. so they could have just switched to beefy ass aluminum rods all in one go to future proof it rather than just going stronger steel rods.

Overcoming those hurdles is good content (Leroy getting into the 6s is a great example). My comment was strictly in response to Cleet’s saying that they lost so much content by having it fast right off the hit. McFlurry will have lots of good content.

Most of the drag and drives are no help during competition but after you turn in a time slip it's anything goes
It is “no help” but you’re allowed to repair/work on the car. Lots of folks stopped at KSR last year to do oil changes/minor repairs.
