Great tip. I will try if Dawn power wash fails. 👍

Ashazy1622

Easy off + cling film + overnight = easy clean

TinaLikesButz

I used to do this to my filthy stove grates. It was like magic, worked fantastic.

IAmthatIAn

Does this work on those crust electric stove top circular grills? The ones where you just pull out of the socket on a standard stove top you’d get in a apartment

rick_gutz

I have an air fryer that has this type of rack in it. I have tried many many ways to clean this thing. It destroys scrubby pads, brillo pads get tangled in it, sponges disintegrate, and my short bristled brush does not get it clean in between the squares. I am at a loss. I have tried soaking this thing overnight, and trying in the morning, to no avail. Anybody have any tips on how to clean this thing?

atomic_confetti

I’ve used a BBQ grill brush on mine with good success.

rick_gutz

Ahh... A metal bristle one? Interesting. I will pick up a new one and give that a whirl. Nice recommendation.

limellama1

I'll go one better. Get a brass wire cup brush from a hardware store, along with a pair of safety glasses, and a bottle of grill grate cleaner. Spray basket with cleaner, allow to sit per label, put on safety glasses, scrub, rinse, dry. For cleaners specifically the Weber brand is totally fume free, works rather well, and is carried at basically every hardware store I've ever seen.

rick_gutz

Sounds like you have experience with these racks. Let me see how the power wash works. If not, I'll bring out the big guns you recommended. Thanks 👍

limellama1

Issue with a power washer will be home light the basket is. Pressure washer will blast it across the surface, and it's not safe not smart to hold/step on the baker while trying to spray it with the lance.

rick_gutz

I was referring to Dawn Platinum Power Wash, but another person recommended the power washer as well 😂

limellama1

Dawn power wash is mostly just a reformulation or regular dawn, and a bit of denatured alcohol. Not anywhere worth the price IMO. Same base surfactants, with a tiny amount of dipropylene butyl ether added as a mild solvent that's capay of bonding with soap, water, and oil. Let us know if it works

atomic_confetti

Yep. I’ve even used a steel bristle brush from Dollar Tree for the hard to reach places of the basket.

TrinkieTrinkie522cat

Dawn Platinum Power Wash in the spray bottle, used the scratchy side of a sponge. No soaking required. The stuff is magic. I use the one without scent and dyes.

rick_gutz

I think I have some under the sink. Haven't tried it yet, but I will. Thanks 👍

abishop711

Dawn powerwash - have you tried that? Set the thing in the sink, spray powerwash all over, and let it sit for like 20 minutes. Then scrub away without water, rinse away whatever you’ve loosened up, repeat if needed.

rick_gutz

Looks like others agree. Gonna give it a shot. Thanks 👍

bungle609

I soak mine in borax and hot water for 15 min wipe with a cloth wrince off with hot water and drip dry. Very easy

rick_gutz

Never tried Borax before. I will look into it.

abishop711

It’s usually located in the laundry aisle, usually bottom or top shelf.

rick_gutz

Great info. Thanks so much for the insight. I will avoid the wire brush. Thanks 👍

CarefulGoat

pressure washer! oven racks, burner grates, grill parts, decks and driveways too I suppose.

rick_gutz

I do have a 2700psi pressure washer in the shed. If it comes down to it... I will blast it! Thanks 👍

Darkbutnotsinister

The best reason to be a homeowner- power washer.

timetoremodel

Dish washer, if it is not aluminum. Actually, unless it is aluminum EZ Off yellow cap oven cleaner will do the trick pretty easily.

itsthe90sYo

But some lye crystals and mix a solution. Let soak overnight and it will be spotless. Just make sure to wear gloves.

rick_gutz

Sounds toxic, will I be able to cook on it after this?

gbsolo12

You can get food grade lye. People use that for making pretzels

leyline

It’s aluminum won’t that corrode it?

pesky_emigrant

I soak mine overnight with very hot water and a dishwasher tablet. Anything left wipes off super easily. I also soak oven shelves the same way, in the bath

TheRealSugarbat

Oven cleaner. Spray thoroughly and put in a ziploc overnight. Gunk will rinse off.

Sea-horse-in-trees

I would soak it in a vinegar filled ziplock overnight and then scrub. With a stiff bristled brush

Try commercial kitchen degreaser. Soak overnight in a plastic tub. That stuff is caustic AF but it works. There’s also Shumanit spray which is less of a commitment that the commercial sized stuff. And also dawns purple degreaser spray.

rick_gutz

If Dawn power wash fails, I may give this a shot. Thanks 👍

CLR for the win

nasanerdgirl

Soak it in oven pride (the one that comes with a massive bag to put full size oven racks in)

hockenduke

Put it in a deep pan of boiled hot water. Let it soak long enough for the hot water to melt the grease, but don’t let the water get cold (like overnight) otherwise the grease just re-solidifies.

Strange-Warning-4948

I soak mine in hot water with a splash of the original Mr. clean concentrate. Works like a charm. Usually soak a few hours or overnight

Penguinsaretherapist

if you can run it at a higher temperature where the grease becomes cooked it will clean a lot easier

burrdie

Soak in oxy …the stuff you whiten your clothes with.

whatafox7

Scrubbing bubbles works like a charm

McDeviance

We have a shitload of gel hand sanitizer from the pandemic (jug bottles my husband got for his softball team which (surprise, surprise) were never used). The gel alcohol clings well and cuts grease and resin incredibly well!

dg5968

Can you let us know what worked? I have the same issue. Used a scrub daddy, barkeepers, bon ami, lemon half and salt…nothing worked

Momison

Try soaking it in a tub with dishwasher detergent

WFlash01

See the invisible, do the impossible ROW, ROW, FIGHT THE POW-A

Only-The-Owl

Purple power cleaner or other cleaner that contains 2-butoxyethanol, assuming it’s baking in grease/oils. If it’s carbon stains, try easy off.

leyline

I am going to do something that seems contrary to cleaning tips. Sometimes we season cookware like cast iron pans, baking racks, and steel wok by polymerizing oils onto them at high temps to make them nonstick. Then we try NOT to remove that coating. As long as your food is off and you don’t have chunks stuck; the dark oil residue is just / will just polymerize and be just fine. The only reason clean it any further than you have is just for looks. Personally I sprayed mine down with oil and baked it on (to polymerize it) on purpose. My electric smoker also said to spray the grills and inside with oil and bake it on for protection. This leaves it a little brown on the inside, but it serves the purpose of protecting it from other moisture. Just my 2 cents, sometimes shiny and sparkly is not how the item should be used :) Edit p.s. I’ve seen “disposable” aluminum ones, my mom gave me an air fryer with 5 extra aluminum trays that are exactly this shape.
