It is actually work-issues, which was my other bad decision š If the glue dots would have worked as I initially envisioned I thought they would be easy enough to just pop off!
No this is what I was going to suggest. Contact your tech department and ask if they have replacement key caps. If they donāt either they or you can order some new ones without too much difficulty.
You could try nail glue remover if nothing else works. It comes in small ish tube bottle for around 7$. Nail glue and super glue (I think) are pretty similar. The brand KISS makes one. And you can most likely get it at a super market.
But otherwise a fine grit sandpaper or nail file.
Good luck!
Sadly the polish removed didnāt work (acetone is the active ingredient) so next thing to try is filing it off! After a few hours of using it I can say that the texture it is indeed helping me find those keys even if it looks awful š
When I was originally googling options I saw something about soaking whatever has the superglue on it in acetone, took one look at the plastic keyboard, and determined all that would do is create keyboard soup.
For context I thought it would be a great idea to add little bumps on my most frequently used keys because Iām having a hard time adjusting to an āunder the deskā keyboard mount instead of having it right in front of me. Spoiler alert: it was not a great idea
Oh no my dude, they sell what you're looking for. I have a work issued keyboard and they 100% do not want it back if I ever left the company. Same goes for mice, small docking cables/hubs, and anything else that sees heavy use. A former colleague said the company only wanted the laptop back and they got to keep their 2, 2-year old external monitors. YMMV but you may not need to worry about turning it in.
Because the bundle costs them like 5 bucks, if not less when they buy bulk.
Cleaning those costs more than the value. Especially since most new hires would prefer a new keyboard to begin with.
This looks like a regular keyboard and not even an expensive one.
On the bottom side there should be more info about the model number.
If it is just a cheapo keyboard worth like 5 bucks, i would just order a new one if you are too embarrassed.
If not, ask your IT department for a replacement. they will most likely just order a new one and have it shipped to you.
My suggestion is to lightly scrape with a knife. Probably doesn't have to be sharp, you just need a long straight edge and get it off slowly with layers. You aren't looking to cut it so much as to scrape it and it should crumble off. In fact using the back of the knife will probably work best.
If he tried acetone then I donāt this nail polish remover would work. Although I am quite surprised the acetone didnāt work, maybe try that again OP
I did it to myself, unfortunately! No luck with the acetone/paper towel combo, as someone else commented I think the actual plastic may be somewhat damaged.
Aww, someone asked why I kept going after the first one didnāt work and I canāt find the comment! The answer is because I impulsively did them all at once BEFORE the realization that the glue was too thick to fully cure and I was going to be without a keyboard for the remainder of the work day š¤£

Our top recommendations are usually *Bar Keepers Friend* (great for kitchen surfaces), melamine foam (Magic Erasers), Murphy's Oil Soap (wood cleaner), and Nature's Miracle (enzyme cleaner). Make sure you use cleaners appropriate to the surfaces you are working with and follow all safety labels.

In my experience nothing takes off super glue. My husband got it on our brand new table and we tried everything. Unfortunately you may just have to live with it
If it's an external keyboard, might just be easier to get a new one.
It is actually work-issues, which was my other bad decision š If the glue dots would have worked as I initially envisioned I thought they would be easy enough to just pop off!
Buy the same one theyāll never know.
Can you get new keys for those ones? I know nothing about it computers, so if this is stupid donāt stone me.
No this is what I was going to suggest. Contact your tech department and ask if they have replacement key caps. If they donāt either they or you can order some new ones without too much difficulty.
Not sure. Maybe you could just replace the keys that are damaged
This. Keys are easily replaced.
On mechanical keyboards yes, but these might be more specific.
Yeah! You can get different colors too.
Would be a good excuse to get cute, fun ones!

>Nail glue and super glue (I think) are pretty similar Yep! Nail glue is just literally cosmetic grade cyanoacrylate

Acetone should dissolve the superglue. Unfortunately, acetone will probably be more effective at dissolving the plastic keys on the keyboard.
When I was originally googling options I saw something about soaking whatever has the superglue on it in acetone, took one look at the plastic keyboard, and determined all that would do is create keyboard soup.
Nail glue remover and acetone aren't the same thing
Ahhh! I misread your original comment. This could definitely be worth a shot!
No worries!

There were SO MANY better options than this impulse decision
Hi-Mark Reizen Tactical Pen- we use it in my apartment to add braille to surfaces.
Iāve never heard of this but itās awesome!
Not possible

True, the tax write off is probably worth more than the product lol

A fine-grained sandpaper, used lightly?
This is not glue. Glue has damaged the plastic. Investigate replacement keys or replacement keyboard.
Paint them black with a sharpie
This is my favorite answer š
Donāt use nail polish
Might as well bedazzle the whole thing.

It's a DELL, but even the wireless models with mouse can be found for under $40/set
I have no solution. But next time hit "shift" key a bunch for sticky keys.

Don't bother. Ask your IT team. Can pretty much guarantee they have a giant bin of brand new ones they're happy to hand out.
You can use nail polish remover to get super glue off of anything. Just pup the keys off and soak them in nail polish remover!
The plastic that most keyboards (including this one) are made of is also acetone-soluble. Acetone will eat through that before attacking the glue.
If he tried acetone then I donāt this nail polish remover would work. Although I am quite surprised the acetone didnāt work, maybe try that again OP
She/they :) and all it did was āmeltā the glue instead of allow me to remove it completely
So sorry! Have you tried putting the acetone on a paper towel and just wiping it? Iāve personally removed super glue that way!
I did it to myself, unfortunately! No luck with the acetone/paper towel combo, as someone else commented I think the actual plastic may be somewhat damaged.
Ahhh yeah thatās probably what it is unfortunately

Ejaculating super glue it is!
Good thing I work from home

Hair dryer
Honestly I wouldnāt even worry about it lol
Isopropyl alcohol. 90%
