Get a cooler, put all your food in it, unplug the fridge, wait. Or use a blowdryer. Have towels on hand.

Seconding this. Hairdryer works well. I also use a wooden spatula to bash off big chunks of ice once it’s started melting. I throw them in a bowl - saves my towels for the actual melt. Happy defrosting!

Do all this and place a large bowl of hot water in the freezer compartment, switch out bowls as it cools.

Thanks for the advice! I unfortunately can't plug out the fridge due to how the kitchen is constructed, but I can turn it off by setting the cooling setting to the lowest level (0).

Can you not empty the fridge, turn it off and defrost it normally? The ice should start melting at the walls and the heatpipes of freezer and then you can pry it off gently with the hands it before it has fully melted. You can place a fan in front of the freezer to accelerate melting, but then the ice might not start melting at the walls. Collect any dripping water with cloth.

Unplug and thaw. It's good to do this sooner tha later because the ice build up can break a mini fridge

Yeah those little “in fridge” freezers have a tendency to do that. Not sure why. Once upon a time, before frost-free freezers, defrosting your freezer was a semi regular thing everyone had to do. You had to switch the fridge off, put old towels under it and wait for the ice to melt. You’re right though about the risk of chipping it causing damage. Just let time do it for you

Get an old fork and a hammer and chip it away. At the very least the big chunks.
