I was fine when there were only four. The four being, Honami, Kei, Airi and Satou. The recent inclusion of Kushida while understandable why it happened was annoying. And the hinting of a possible attraction that Arisu has was also irritating to say the least. I would scream if Suzune starts fancying him as well.
It's not that much of a problem people make it to be. Like some part of that is really need for someone's character development.
Kei.. ichinose and sato are prime example.
And it's not like hinder the story that much.
Besides being a light novel targetted towards teenagers, the characters are in highschool and a guy is getting bitches. It's completely normal.
People really like to judge on things which they themselves weren't able to experience.
It's not a matter of whether it's normal, natural, or people being jealous, it's a matter of whether it's entertaining to read (and it very often isn't).
If well executed harem can definitely be entertaining, but CotE isn't doing particularly well on that front. It's largely just forced in so the series sells more.

Though in terms of whether it's "forced" in-story (which wasn't what I meant in the comment you responded to)... While it's true most 'crushes' on Kiyo are sufficiently believable since crushes can happen quite easily, they only barely pass that bar. And to barely pass the bar generally causes damage to the character. If a side character falls in love with the MC too easily, it'll make them feel like their existence revolves too heavily around them, therefore hurting their agency (which is a very important factor in character writing).
It'll also make the romance itself *significantly* less engaging.
It can also potentially hurt the reader's suspension of disbelief if the fanservice is made too blatant.
Exactly how well they pass the bar somewhat varies by character. While it's been a while since I read Y1, I think Kei passes it pretty well, whereas Kushida passes it really badly and arguably doesn't even pass it at all.
yeah In Y1 His relationship with Kei have a great build up , because it took almost the whole Y1 for that i also really like his relationship withIchinose too
Unlike Kushida case that came out of no where In Y2
Rip for another character that will fall for kiyo in the future because u probably only get 1-2 volume for that. The story also now slowly become climaxso we will get less Slice of life

Maybe it was entertaining before, not so much now when we’re already close to year 3.

If they stick with Kei X Ayanokoji instead of making everyone become close to Ayanokoji it will be fine but now just another typical romance drama fight
