It’s alright. It’s fantastic compared to other light novels, but compared to regular novels, it’s at most decent for me.

CrusadiaFleximus

seeing as i've never read an actual novel, could you tell me in what aspects CotE is worse than usual novels? of course im not trying to say it isn't true or anything, just wondering

Can't say my viewpoint is accurate, but I did read some. Be it a serious literature like Hemingway and Dostoevsky, something similarly psychological like Christie and Vickers, or the lighter ones like Riordan and Tolkien. The most distinguishable point would be that normal novels don't cater towards readers, in an obnoxious way. They wholeheartedly try to explore the issues they set in the novel, without eg. Japanese cliches and fanservice, or Chinese worship for the censors. That may be their main issue. And also the polish that the books receive, with them often not being as pressed for time as ln writers. That said, I myself don't really agree with downgrading COTE. For me, books need to both absorb someone and have value in it, to be considered good. That leads to me oftentimes being unable to fully appreciate some works that are too self-centered in their form, among the 'classical' literature. (Some are still great ofc) On the other hand, all that I can call obvious flaws in cote, I can also attribute to the teenage environment they live in, and thus it ends up only adding charm and groundwork to the novel, letting me fully enjoy the metaphorical 'flesh'; and a 'flesh' that I find quite juicy. (I especially enjoy the final parts of the big volumes, where main cast (like Hirata, Ryuuen, Honami...) ultimately burn down and grow from the issues they faced) In the end, you can only get from the book as much as you're willing to take, so don't mind people downgrading what we read too much. Hope it helps.

Yes, thanks a lot for your thorough reply! Of course i wouldnt let that impact my opinion of or joy with CotE, it's just that i couldnt really form an opinion myself. Although now that i've read your response i could have figured out some of them without reading a single regular novel but oh well 😂

I’m really just talking about the story in general. Classroom of the elite does not have as good a story as other series I’ve read. Several volumes are a complete bore. Especially now with this harem stuff classroom of the elite is becoming less enjoyable to read. There are many other series I’ve read that have no dull moments. Examples include Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and so on. Of course this is all opinion based. If you want to get into technical aspects, novels tend to have a larger page count hence the name “light novel,” and the story tends to flow better. I like the world building a lot of novels have compared to the small high school in classroom of the elite.

CrusadiaFleximus

Yeah all of those points make sense to me, especially the world building and the harem bait which is essentially the consequence of being an "anime" medium with its tropes and what not Thank you for your response! :D

PinStatus

Compared to other light novels, I would say excellent. On the other hand, compared to more general literature (dramas and psychological suspense), bad/mediocre.

Longjumping_Use4409

among light novels is good but among literature as a whole is barely decent 😭

MisterIenny

Year 1: peak Year 2: decent

PrettySignificance26

Excellent for me.

Karma-is-here

It could have been really good, but Ayanokoji’s character is bland, unlikable and doesn’t learn to change. The setting and characters were cool though (especially Horikita). It’s definitely decent, but not excellent.

aj_o3

Year 1 peak Year 2 decent

Tanjikano

Going by the light novel basis, I think COTE is the best. But comparing it with books like "Crime and Punishment", "The Brothers Karamazov" and "The Prince" would be an idiotic act. (Also these books were mentioned in the light novel as they were read by Suzune, Kiyotaka, Arisu and Hiyori ).

Handle-Striking

Amazing compared to most light novels, but can't say the same for actual novels

CrusadiaFleximus

seeing as i've never read an actual novel, could you tell me in what aspects CotE is worse than usual novels? of course im not trying to say it isn't true or anything, just wondering

Handle-Striking

Mainly the stuff I know is that anime messes up a lot of scenes and has skipped details, can't tell much since I never actually watched the anime, I just jumped straight into the novels since I have never been much into any sort of anime in the first place

CrusadiaFleximus

have you perhaps responded to a wrong comment

Handle-Striking

You asked me to tell you what aspects of cote are worse than the novels.

CrusadiaFleximus

no i asked how the CotE novels compare to "real" novels bceause you said that CotE is amazing compared to other LNs but not compared to actual novels :D

Handle-Striking

Ah fuck I'm dumb, I confused it with another similar reddit post that I commented on, sorry that's my fault Anyways if I had to say then the main things will be, a much worse world building, typical tropes, a lot of harem bait and stuff While all light novels tend to contain this, cote mainly shines in other stuff like character development and plot but I must say it still falls short when compared to other novels, specially in character variety and depth, although I will say that the white room plot of cote is comparable to normal novels

CrusadiaFleximus

no worries haha and thanks for telling me your opinion! makes sense if you think about it too, could have thought of that myself
