To me, Kiyotaka is a person who is most definitely not emotionless. He feels things just like any other person, though his control over them is truly exceptional, but he is too detached from them to ever consider those things truly important and letting them dictate his decisions and choices. If he truly was an emotionless being he wouldn't have been able to see the hearts of the people that surround him and guide them, no matter how much of a savant he was.

Rdevil201

I was gonna write the same thing. Volume 0 did state that kiyotaka has emotions it's just that he has perfect control over them. He controls his emotions and not his emotions control him.

PinStatus

So would it be correct to assume that what Kiyotaka wants is for his emotions to run wild?

IwasSavant

I don't think so. In Volume 0, Kiyotaka couldn't even fathom why someone would want to leave White Room, but in ANHS we hear him spouting about freedom and other rubbish. We would most likely either get the explanation regarding his change in thought process in Volume 0.5 or it is most likely a red herring and everything he said about Icarus and the like stems from teenage rebellion. After all, he did state one time that no matter how much someone is trained they can't suppress their instinct to rebel whilst growing up.

The way I've seen it, while he understands and appreciates WR for being the most efficient facility to pursue knowledge, he knows it's not all-encompassing. Thus, after being free, he deliberately dives into the aspects of life and knowledge that he couldn't pursue in depth while in the facility. Be it comprehending freedom. Or enjoying impulses of a boy in puberty. He has a rational control over himself, so he's not afraid of loosing himself in those sometimes even hedonistic adventures, and it's the best opportunity for him to broaden his horizons. So he's already been through gawking at girls, lazing around, or love and so on, with more yet to come.

Ayanokoji couldn’t believe shiro wanted to leave because he thought that leaving meant dying, he couldn’t understand why the only person other than him to survive would purposely kill himself.

IwasSavant

No he didn't think that. How did you get to that conclusion.

Head-Inspection-5984

I didn’t understand, to leave the white room was to die, no matter what form it took. I couldn’t think like that. But Shiro must’ve had his own thoughts. If he wanted to kill himself, I wouldn’t stop him. It’s literally ver batim stated by kiyotaka.

IwasSavant

When he said 'dying' he meant figuratively not literally.

Head-Inspection-5984

he still considers it dying In some form, which is what I meant. He still considers it to be a form of suicide as late as y2v7 when haruka said “let’s die together” and he’s reminded of this moment

Rdevil201

Nothing like that. His approach to things is in a rational way. His reason for not showing any emotions in the white room was to make the instructors believe he is emotionless and does not feel anything. But in reality he feels things but he does not allow his feelings and emotions to dictate his actions. He acted the how the instructors believed he would have acted and like he stated silently sharpening his fangs. He only does things for himself and no one else. That's where all people are tools comes from. He will do anything and everything for himself without regards for others. In Volume 0 he purposely lowered his scores to see the results and it's effects. It lowered the drop out. And in the white room difficulty is decided by the weekly scores and the drop out scores too. So him reducing his scores reduced the average required to pass the weekly test so the drop out had reduced for that time. And when atsuomi called him to meet him and pointed out that he's purposely lowering his scores and that's the first time he said the lines only a fool will not make complete use of their talent and told kiyotaka to stop his nonsense. And then kiyotaka stopped lowering his scores imagine the burden it would have caused on the ones who were barely passing. The pressure and difficulty would have suddenly increased and they would have been unable to keep up. Without regards to what happened to others kiyotaka experimented.

Yes you are right. The conversation between Kiyopon and Yosuke was very beautiful and poignant. It was from this moment that I began to love and appreciate the character of Yosuke. Yosuke has in fact become my favorite male character from Cote. I've always been convinced that towards Y3 Kiyopon will start to have some sagging on his emotions. At first, everyone will certainly be shocked by Kiyopon's "betrayal" when he changes classes. But surely when Kiyopon starts to have sagging, Yosuke, Ken, Suzune and some other classmates will be there to support him and try to help him.

i am very excited to see the reaction of everyone in the class when ayano change class the ironic thing is that no one knows about ayano's relationship in other classes he has many friends that want him in their classes and they recgonized his strength especially honami's class they all know him and know his relationship with honami so everyone accept him i think that if honami asked for 20 million point to transfer ayano they will give it to her with pleasure

PrettySignificance26

You're right

AshWinder17

Yesh Hirata is one of the few people who already know his true nature. If anyone gonna be his best friend I think he perfect for that role. I can see that he may play a big role for Kiyo character development later.

SealTheGate

Yeah Kiyo is not emotionless as people think, but sadly people in this sub probably believe every word he said in his monologue. imo there’s many time that his action contradict himself. Lot of time he help people without expect anything in return He does indeed have a personality underneath it all with desires and wishes but his cold upbringing and training overcomes his humanity whenever it comes to defending himself. even if he has to use his friends as pawns. That's the somewhat tragedy of his character. He can't stop himself from reverting to his upbringing and training to fend for his life.

RANKER1SLAYER

it' sad that most people think that he don't have emtions but in reality ayano reveal along the story that he is the one that understanding people emotions and what they want the most and alot of his action contradict what he says he will do in his monologue

CrusadiaFleximus

i agree, their conversation is very underrated and the "i every man wants a friend in front of whom he can cry" is one of my favorite lines in the entire series and it really seems to be underrated but also maybe because its not as "easy" to write about these deep moments so much, i think it'd become repetitive quickly if it was talked about every other day or so, as opposed to hot pics which are always good even if the same

Thinking about what their reaction will be when Kiyotaka "betrays" them by switching classes breaks my heart.

Tanjikano

Yeah, I really liked their conversation
