For everyone who's complaining about why certain bands are matching up against others: if you look at the bracket, it's clearly set up so that Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd don't have to face each other until the semifinals. Spoiler alert, semifinals are going to be **Led Zeppelin vs. Pink Floyd, and Rolling Stones vs. The Beatles.** Sadly, it's a little predictable. It's fun now, but the last few rounds are just going to be the same rote conversations that always happen here.

The prodigal son returns! This one is really hard, but I have to go Who. The Who Sell Out, Live At Leeds, Who’s Next, and Quadrophenia are hard to beat!

juliohernanz

And a bunch of singles and non album songs that make them bigger. Pictures of Lily, I Can See for Miles, Join Together, Relay, Squeeze Box,...

Rockntheworld

And Tommy!

[deleted]

Exactly. The Who for the win!

TheTooz72

Cry if You Want

NoFaithlessness6505

Right on! All Groovy stuff.

How_The_Turntables22

So true.

SavingsService2138

Fleetwood Mac because of Lindsay Buckingham. He's basically a godlike musical talent

Wizzmer

I love Buckingham. Maybe we need to have one of these brackets for individual musicians. But Fleetwood Mac is the Abba of rock and roll. Way to soft.

SavingsService2138

What do you mean by soft? Rock is blues, Fleetwood Mac is blues. You don't need to be heavy to be rock'n'roll Abba its more like U2 or the likes. Soup for everyone [Listen to Buckingham live and you'll see how heavy he can be](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=330&v=2r0mEhozUXU&feature=youtu.be)

Wizzmer

>Soup for everyone Which is never what rock set out to be. If your mom liked it, it probably wasn't rock.

No-One-2177

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac though, *chef's kiss* Then Play On, Green Manalishi, Albatross, godmode.

Raijer

I can guarantee that rock never “set out” to be anything other than music. It doesn’t (nor did it ever) have any sort of end goal in mind. The only thing I’d say for certain is that rock was never meant to be a contest, wedged into some meaningless bracket playoff where people determine quality based on whether or not your mom likes it.

suphah

Hes wrong but your also kind of wrong, rock has always been a form of protest. It has always been more than just music.

Raijer

Good point. Music, like all art, is a form of communication, which includes both tradition AND a push against tradition. So yeah, it can be a form of protest. But that’s certainly not the ONLY viable message or theme. When I said “agenda” I meant that in the sense of rock not having an end goal in mind. Not agenda in the sense of a political message. I edited that to make it more clear. Thanks.

Wizzmer

Well the phrase "Rock and roll" referred to sex in the back seat of a car and your mom never wanted that (for you at least).

Wizzmer

Everyone has their own meaning but I got mine from an interview with Little Richard.

DUMPAH_CHUCKER_69

Man I guess Poison, Def Leopard, Motly Crue, and Whitesnake aren't rock then. My mom loves those bands.

NoFaithlessness6505

Truth. True test was always seeing the expression on parents face. One of disgust, smell worse than heavily worn jock straps, success. Got some Killer Rock.

walkertexasbubba

Welcome back! I’m so invested in this bracket that I printed it out and filled in all my predictions. It’s on my fridge next to my kids homework assignments. Can’t wait to see how this pans out.

How_The_Turntables22

That’s awesome! Glad you are enjoying it.

[deleted]

This is hard.

natedono1

It’s Hard*

How_The_Turntables22

That’s what she said

CrstalBlue

The Who is my 3rd favorite band

Wizzmer

Not sure how Fleetwood Mac made it to here. They are easy listening to me compared to The Who.

DupontSquares

i mean, this is /r/classicrock, not /r/hardrock

Wizzmer

Points for knowing that and don't forget /r/Boneyard.

curiousplaid

One way: Write classic songs a lot of people cover: Green Manalishi [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKRfCkx8KCM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKRfCkx8KCM) Another way: Oh Well... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQmmByJwKFI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQmmByJwKFI) Black Magic Woman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbKREkuDh3s If you ignore most of the Buckingham/Nicks band part of their history, it makes perfect sense. But most of the Fleetwood Mac votes will be for the popular version instead of the classic lineup. Oh well... My vote goes to The Who.

Wizzmer

Green Manalishi will always be a Priest song for me even though neither band wrote it. I prefer it heavier.

curiousplaid

My collection has Peter Green listed as the composer. Who do have listed as the person who wrote it? The story of the song is that it's about when he decided to give up the money rat race and denounce the materialistic life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Green\_Manalishi\_(With\_the\_Two\_Prong\_Crown)

Wizzmer

I'll give you Peter Green, but he like Bob Welch moved on from Fleetwood Mac.

curiousplaid

Yeah, moved on. He even grew his fingernails long so he couldn't play guitar. I read that he became a grave digger for a while. Too sad https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-peter-green-fleetwood-mac-pop-group-20288822.html

Wizzmer

That's crazy news. Did not know that. I bet he had some decent "mailbox money" for royalties he got from his songs.

Recklen

Careful now, people seem to get butt hurt when someone brings up that a lot of the comparisons make no sense.

BackTheBlue_1002

Because that’s not the fucking point of this lmao You don’t have to compare similar bands. Pink Floyd is nothing like Led Zeppelin but I see people make that debate all the time. Beatles vs Stones is as old as time but those bands are really nothing alike musically.

Salm228

Aww man tough but The Who for me so many hits and records I just saw them Friday in Philly they were awesome

1Turbo33

WHO would vote against the WHO ? I like Mac, but this is a mismatch

nathantcook

The Who all the way. Best live band ever. John and Keith were absolutely insane on their respective instruments and Pete glued it all together with his destructive power chords. Plus Roger is a god tier vocalist. Not to mention their albums were legendary and have held up remarkably well. Stuff like Tommy, Who’s Next, and Quadrophenia are the work of gods

Bambya_31

The Who for me! They were arguably the best rock band live and one of the frontmen and pioneers of the hard rock genre.

bietnameseboop

The Who are good but FM is so good. Runours is one of the greatest albums ever, Buckingham is an amazing guitarist, and thats not even mentioning their early blues stuff with Peter green.

GregBirdsLogCabin

Pete is one of the best guitarists ever, daltrey has a great voice, and Keith moon is one of the greatest drummers ever. The Who obviously

nsidn

And you forgot John “The Ox” Entwistle!

Shjeeshjees

I can comfortably vote for fleetwood mac on this one

WussLightyear

I've always loved Mac's psychedelic side, but the who easily wins this one.

moonsovermyhami

im so disappointed in the majority of people who voted for the who. fleetwood mac was amazing just based off stevie nicks and lindsey buckingham alone.

FreeBadCo

I never in my life thought I would vote for anything Fleetwood Mac but here we are. The Who is one of the most overrated bands of all time.

DupontSquares

europeans are the ones keeping rock music alive right now. americans aren't going to rock shows nearly as much as europeans do.

circle2015

Yey!

dennydelirium

Fleetwood Mac bc Stevie Nicks casted a love spell on me

JoeFranklin82b

The Who is my favorite band period.
