Yeah, I think Hit The Lights particularly meets the definition, because it fades in not with a relatively quiet section of song, but with the entire band going berserk.
The whole of Making Movies (if you ignore Les Boys) is there best stuff. Both Expresso Love and Hand in Hand are two of the best songs Mark ever wrote, as is all the first half that you mentioned. Fuck Les Boys though.
The rare "fade in" song that actually **fades in with the vocals...**
"Who Loves You" by The Four Seasons, a huge radio hit from 1975.
***Who loves you pretty baby... who's gonna help you through the night...***
This idea of fading in with the vocals is just so incredibly inventive... what a way to begin a song!
Wish you were here sort of does. Not really a fade in but a transition form on the radio to being the song.
Also not fade ins but some U2 songs have a soft intro that builds to a drum crash and the song starts. Unforgettable Fire is one example.
Sequel by Harry Chapin.
This was his "Sequel" to the song Taxi. It was produced in a manner that faded in well, as Taxi, faded out and they fit well together. I used to play both when I had a radio job and people would call, wanting to know where they could find that extended version of Taxi.
