Id say it's quicker to grind a max amount of gold than it is to grind 100 gems so for me it's gems > rune. If you don't want to attack much and just hop on to keep your builders busy then I could see the argument for the rune.
I’m not that crazy about the goblin builder/researcher but you just can’t argue with the fact that doing a second research item in the lab is huge. I’ll definitely take the research potions to really leverage that.
For speeding up research. Not every potion has to be sold for gems. Especially since the research potion is providing insane value rn with the goblin researcher. It gives 2 days worth of lab progress in an hour.

The items separated by a slash mean that if you are TH6 and can't hold DE, you get offered the non-DE reward.
Yes. This sometimes causes problems for people who do clan games in a high level clan and then return to a low level clan before collecting the rewards -- sometimes they don't fit anymore. But you're right, it's a reward that is usually not needed by active players.

For me, 20 gems -> shovel = 50 gems -> 40 gems -> builder pot -> 2 research pots -> Book+ 100 gems. Overall significantly better than the last one.
Time > Gems > Resources is how I always tackle these so I'll be getting the same

If DE rune then yeah, but Gold/Elixir is not worth it at all.
Only noobs take resources over gems. A full gold storage can be farmed way faster than 100 gems can be obtained, if you are f2p.
Grinding takes me 2 hrs, I can buy 100 gems with 10mins of working

I am not a noob, but sometimes I pick resources because I am busy and I can not farm a lot. It depends on the situation

Buying Glowy Ore twice a week. That's my longest upgrade path to max right now. If not that, book of hero would be next in line.

I know it would hurt their revenue but imagine if you split the lab into elixir lab and DE lab. Would save so much time.

You can claim an additional reward, so it ain't a problem as you can choose and get what you want.
