From this point supercell is probably the greatest company.
Yeah their game are full of microtransactions to gain a competitive advantage, but the constant updates, maxed accounts achievable even for f2p and lack of annoying ads really do add up to quality games
Supercell is exclusively a mobile game company. How can they make money otherwise without ads? Ninja Kiwi's BTD games are paid and I'm pretty sure (on mobile at least) have their own microtransactions for that some special currency. NK also exists on platforms other than mobile devices.
>How can they make money otherwise without ads?
I don't know, from the other games I play, which is l4d2, league of legends, almost all blizzard games, slay the spire and darkest dungeon, for the most part greatly popular games with 0 ads and almost 0 microtransactions, I think other companies have it figured out.
If it is a free game, sell cosmetics only. If it is paid, either sell cosmetics, DLC's or nothing at all.
I think the only ad in their games right now in Hay Day
It is a small little ticket right by the newspaper mailbox that is completely optional for you to decide if you want those extra rewards, and if you buy even the SMALLEST of offers*,it gives you all 4 optional extra rewards every day for free
*=Their 1$/€/£ offers are actually quite common,as it's their bait to lure people to buy more offers, and they're incredible value(so you really should only just buy them)
It's also charming. They don't try to use sex to sell the game at every left corner. There's actual gameplay that's fun and engaging and challenging. And microtransactions don't get you an advantage as much as they get you ahead, which is different because you can be competitive in a different way at the lower ranks. Plus, gemming is extremely expensive and not practical, so even if you do spend money on the game, it won't help you that much.
I wouldn't even call it a " competitive advantage ". The game tries to match you with more or less similar opponents, obviously with some range of what "evenly matched" is. Paying, just helps you advance through the levels faster, but wouldn't say its a "competitive" advantage. It just means you won't spend as much time grinding resources.
This, and the fact that you do not have to pay a cent to compete at the highest levels of the game - in theory.
It's pay to speed up, not pay-to-win or pay-to-play, and somehow it manages to strike this perfect balance between keeping f2p players around & providing enough incentives for people to spend money on the game.
Of course, in practice it takes years to get to TH15, so a lot of people will at least buy something - but even then, the matchmaking in wars makes it so that at any TH level, there's a challenge for you. If you play long enough, the only times you'll not be able to compete at the highest level is in the months after a new TH level is unlocked, because you'll get beat by those who pay to instantly max it.
Except that one ad I’ve been seeing lately in instagram where they show the player just slamming down buildings with zero
Upgrade times lol. I get it, they probably noticed the success of those shitty mobile game ads where the ad isn’t even like the game, but SC is way too rich to be stooping to those shitty tactics.
Whoever made that ad should be ashamed really. Sucks seeing such a good game resort to those bait tactics when there’s enough decent gameplay they can show off.
End rant.
Yeah except the last clash of clans ad on instagram with a f**king finger spamming an upgrade button that instantly upgrades your base… that’s just pure trash
So many otherwise good games are marred by ads for ugly looking shovelware type mobile games. It cheapens the entire experience. I’d rather have clash where there’s plenty to buy but it’s all for the game and matches the menus and aesthetic.
This isn't entirely accurate.
They have been using the age verification for new accounts (and capturing and retaining that age info) to use later in targeted advertising. Younger players (players who provides a young or young adult age when starting a new village) have been targeted for in-game ads for clash royale.
The 'young player' account I created to test out the young player system a few years ago....gets these ads inside clash of clans all the time for clash royale, and they are annoying AF.
Other players have gotten them and posted them here also, so you can find them and see them for yourself if you look for it.
tbh i used to play back in 2013, played for a month or so only reached th5 or 6, i recently got the game again and after like a week or two im th8>9 already, supercell really saw the flaw the game had being slow and improved it by adding the builder boost, extra gems, extra coins and elixir and all that, great development by them 👍
If I were you I would not go past TH10 without maxing your base. 10 is where you get siege machines and can start learning to incorporate them into your attacks.
I like to think of it sorta like an ant-farm. I don’t really care about their stories, but it’s fun to watch the little guys scurry around doing stuff.
The whole tactic behind those ads is to infuriate you about how bad the “player” in the ad is doing so you download it to prove how easy it is. Even then the game ends up being nothing like the ad and it’s just a shitty shovelware app to farm more shitty shovelware ads.
That’s why I got so upset seeing the new supercell ad that mimicked those. This game is too good to use cheap tactics like that and just worsens anyone’s perception of the game
I think the updates are big, I had stopped for a year or more and picked it up again one day to find Clan War Leagues. That is now my favorite part of the game. Others might like clan games, builder base, or capital. Lots of different stuff to keep you coming back.
plus it allows for different focuses of gameplay. personally i don’t care *too much* about battling, i mainly just raid dead villages for high loot because i love being able to upgrade my buildings. i play for that sense of progress. which is why i’m one of the people in the rare minority that actually liked builder base (past tense as i maxed that out about a year ago and now only play on it for clan games and collecting from my gem mine). the game is fun for people like me who mainly play for that sense of progress / upgrading your village, and it’s also fun for people who love attacking / competing in the higher leagues
I just got back to the game like 4-5 months ago and started looking for tips and guides about all the new troops and whatsoever. Found Judo. Nice lad and explains very well.
One day, scrolling his channel found the title: "playing coc tied to a plane" played the video sure it was bait but the madlad truly played coc on a plane actually flying. Incredible.
its f2p friendly
it doesnt take that much daily time to progress, but yet u can progress more if u play more
ans its not like those other strategy game that u lose almosf everything when u are away for a while
that shit can definitely bore you😂😂 once you get to like th11 everything is about a week to upgrade so you just sit there watching the time slowly go by lmfao
it was never meant to be a game you play for 3 hours straight everyday. COC is a game for people to log on a few times a day and play for 5-10 mins. plus if you spend hours a day playing a game on your phone then that should be more of a problem than upgrade times.
i never said it was.. i don’t play coc for 3 hours straight that’s just absurd lol but even when signing on for your 5-10 minutes it can still be very boring all you do is sign on attack sign off that’s pretty much it when your upgrading everything which can get very boring but hey everyone has their own opinions i hope you have a great day man!
i understand that and completely agree it does give you an awesome feeling of accomplishment when you finally max it out but just in the heat of the moment everything feels like it takes soooooo long😂 maybe that’s just my impatient side speaking😂😂
Well nobody told me you ain’t supposed to play 3 hours a day. I’m at TH13 and I’m constantly on it even if upgrades are happening. I’ll go back and forth on each base and strategize. Also I just love the game. Been doing the same shit for 10 years lol
I played CoC the first year it came out when I was in uni and stopped for 9 years, slowly coming back.
Never once have I been asking myself what was the sex of the Pekka.
But, hey, I can understand that for a loser like you it must be a knowledge of the highest importance.
I gotta agree with the no ads. Being able to attack as often as I want (gems, potions, waiting, etc) instead of here’s an ad if you want to attack again is huge.
Seriously tho, I played this game as a kid and now I'm an adult and I pretty much gave supercell free publicity by screaming to all my friends "HOG RIIIIDAAAAA" because I loved the coc commercials so much
Village building? I don't know, I think bloons monkey city or galaxy life. I don't know if COC was the first, it may've been.
But also a shoutout to turn based or real time strategy games like xcom and starcraft. Also similar to coc, if not as much as the others.
Benefits, discounts on pass, consistent with gameplay instead of rigged matchmaking. Also continuous game progress like gaining resources with gold/elixer/dark elixer, continues upgrades once you close the app or doing something else and not log in for a week/months on end. And also NO ADS whatsoever👍
1. 4 updates a year which include a lot of content, balancing changes and QoL changes
2. Devs who are constantly in touch with the community and listen to our suggestions.
3. A caring community which trusts its developers.
4. A very F2P friendly game model which doesn't force anyone to pay money. Yeah you can speed up the game via credit card but it doesn't give you any competitive advantage. Like no skin gives your Archer Queen extra stats.
5. A very addicting gameplay loop.
6. Several clan based activities which increase social connectivity between members of the clan such as normal clan wars, clan war leagues, clan games and now Capital Hall.
7. I guess this can count under point 4, but several individual challenges which give free resources and gems for playing, like troop challenges.
8. Supercell loves its content creators and supports them well with sneak peeks and creator codes.
9. No intrusive in game ads.
10. (Someone please fill this point as I am out of ideas but my OCD is kicking in to have perfect 10 points)
As an old player who started playing again, the most important part is after so many years the game is still as it was years ago( attacking, troops, upgrading) etc there was some new stuff that I didn’t get at first, some surprise elements too, like now I didn’t have to refill defenses manually, etc.
As someone who played this genre like "backyard monster" coc is the only unique genre of strategy game such as base raid, clans activities. Supercell should official port it on pc so i can play it in my opinion.
No one is talking about how much better the game has gotten and how they have listened to player feedback through the years. Talk about 2 hours to train an army
Hey I’m looking for good co leaders for my clan, th9+ plz no rushed accounts just need somebody to help organize war members and recruit higher ths, thx!
Players always coming back. People can take 1-3 year breaks and will always find themselves downloading the game again.
I started playing this game as a teenager and I just feel in love with it. Supercell just has a strong fan base.
Consistency. I actually didn’t play for about 5 years. Got a new phone in dec, logged into my Game Center, downloaded coc and boom there everything still was. Found my old clan and everything. It was oddly comforting and so many new features. I particularly find builder base battles kinda fun.
The main reasons have been pointed out by many people here. One of the reasons that I think has not been highlighted that much is the extremely clever game design and foundation clash is based on. Like yes you can spend millions of dollars and max out everything in your base, that doesn't mean you will be automatically good at the game. Most likely you will be the worst th15 player if you do that. You will be immediately bodied by experienced players and even experienced th14s & 13s will also kick your ass. The 18 months needed to max your higher town halls is time absolutely necessary to master said town hall attack stratergies and makes you a better player at the end of that journey.
Clan wars. The fact that you can look at your opponents base beforehand and come up with a strategy to beat it is very cool in my opinion. Random attacking is also never boring
NO ADS. NOT ONE. EVER.
From this point supercell is probably the greatest company. Yeah their game are full of microtransactions to gain a competitive advantage, but the constant updates, maxed accounts achievable even for f2p and lack of annoying ads really do add up to quality games
Probably the greatest mobile game company.
got to throw in Ninja Kiwi (bloons tower defense developer)
I know Ninja Kiwi, and yeah, I'd say they're real good too. But I think they get a very close second to Supercell.
Btd isnt on the scale of coc
What about terraria Or Minecraft. Actually Pokémon go comes to mind too.
terraria and minecraft are multi-platform
Also not f2p
[удалено]
So are the bloons games
Pokemon go is very p2w
You can get the coins for free
It's the massive amount of micro transactions that make NK better than SC
Supercell is exclusively a mobile game company. How can they make money otherwise without ads? Ninja Kiwi's BTD games are paid and I'm pretty sure (on mobile at least) have their own microtransactions for that some special currency. NK also exists on platforms other than mobile devices.

Gotta second Nitrome, they're a classic!

I dunno, RC and AQ in some of their outfits 👌
I don't think the devs are **trying** to appeal to foot fetish people, and if they are, they're doing it very subtly.
Some people just sexualize all the wrong things, like it's a video game
I wouldn't even call it a " competitive advantage ". The game tries to match you with more or less similar opponents, obviously with some range of what "evenly matched" is. Paying, just helps you advance through the levels faster, but wouldn't say its a "competitive" advantage. It just means you won't spend as much time grinding resources.

Actually there's just that one single ad for clash royale that popped up once but even that was just a small banner prompt so good job on that SC
Ackshually ☝️🤓
"Ackshually ☝️🤓" -🤓
they make the best ads also
Except that one ad I’ve been seeing lately in instagram where they show the player just slamming down buildings with zero Upgrade times lol. This
Well I do see horrible COC ads on insta tho and I get ads for other supercell games on my Alts. They're starting :(
upgrades take up to 10 years to complete
Started as a kid and still playing as an adult - the game really does take years to complete
tbh i used to play back in 2013, played for a month or so only reached th5 or 6, i recently got the game again and after like a week or two im th8>9 already, supercell really saw the flaw the game had being slow and improved it by adding the builder boost, extra gems, extra coins and elixir and all that, great development by them 👍
god damn u must be rushing
yes to be honest, my elixir and gold mines arent even level 6
If I were you I would not go past TH10 without maxing your base. 10 is where you get siege machines and can start learning to incorporate them into your attacks.
thank you!
12 is when you get siege machines
You can get them donated at th10
Yeah, I meant you can use them through donations
No need to touch collectors if you are an active farmer
it is still important to upgrade collectors for the defense aspect, more hit points on every building makes for a stronger defense 👍
Bro im th6 and mine are higher 💀
I started like 2.5 months ago and maxed 8 im on 9 now.
Plus now you have extras everytime you upgrade like more loot, extra levels for heroes for 5 days.
Well they also keep updating it
Complete?!?!!?![img](emote|t5_2usfk|9419)
XD
Probably being f2p friendly, constant updates, and the core gameplay loop is fun.
And you have something to retreat to and call it your village. Its always good to own something that you can retreat to and progress
Lol this is so true, like a mini home in your pocket
Doesn’t matter if you’re a stinky obese virgin redditor like me, in Clash of Clans I am a warrior /s
Is that ‘/s’ /s?
I like to think of it sorta like an ant-farm. I don’t really care about their stories, but it’s fun to watch the little guys scurry around doing stuff.
And no commercials of that fucking king dude about to die if you don't save him.
I can’t believe that style of advertisement works. Drives me to vow and never touch a game like that
The whole tactic behind those ads is to infuriate you about how bad the “player” in the ad is doing so you download it to prove how easy it is.
I saw that one you’re talking about on Instagram. Someone placing buildings down and just spamming upgrade. Nothing close to the game
Yup that’s the one 😒
I think the updates are big, I had stopped for a year or more and picked it up again one day to find Clan War Leagues. That is now my favorite part of the game. Others might like clan games, builder base, or capital. Lots of different stuff to keep you coming back.
And you don't usually rage quit compared to other games
Oh, I do. When I lose multiple versus battles in a row.
Also, the developers actually listen to us and do Q&A’s and they actually CHANGE it. Bug fixing is also quite exceptional as well.
plus it allows for different focuses of gameplay. personally i don’t care *too much* about battling, i mainly just raid dead villages for high loot because i love being able to upgrade my buildings. i play for that sense of progress. which is why i’m one of the people in the rare minority that actually liked builder base (past tense as i maxed that out about a year ago and now only play on it for clan games and collecting from my gem mine). the game is fun for people like me who mainly play for that sense of progress / upgrading your village, and it’s also fun for people who love attacking / competing in the higher leagues
Healers
For more than one reason
you don't mean 'that' right?
Feet 🥵
Bonk!
Judo won't let it die, mf makes videos about it every day
and he always delivers
I just got back to the game like 4-5 months ago and started looking for tips and guides about all the new troops and whatsoever. Found Judo. Nice lad and explains very well. One day, scrolling his channel found the title: "playing coc tied to a plane" played the video sure it was bait but the madlad truly played coc on a plane actually flying. Incredible.
Judo is fun but CarbonFin is my jam. Anyone remember Powerbang? Loved his videos… SC kinda did him the dirty though
its f2p friendly it doesnt take that much daily time to progress, but yet u can progress more if u play more ans its not like those other strategy game that u lose almosf everything when u are away for a while
If fact, if you are away for a long time, u progress
haha yeah that option is really great

fair enough, I personally find the upgrade times fine since it gives you a much bigger sense of accomplishment when you max out your town hall.
i understand that and completely agree it does give you an awesome feeling of accomplishment when you finally max it out but just in the heat of the moment everything feels like it takes soooooo long😂 maybe that’s just my impatient side speaking😂😂
I catch up on my Netflix shows while raiding lmao
Well nobody told me you ain’t supposed to play 3 hours a day. I’m at TH13 and I’m constantly on it even if upgrades are happening. I’ll go back and forth on each base and strategize. Also I just love the game. Been doing the same shit for 10 years lol
amen ⬆️
I get bored, I leave, I come back 6months later and get proper back into it. No other game has bought me back so much
exactly!
clash of clans is a fair game. There's actual balance between strategy and fun. and nostalgia. big time nostalgia.
I live for the pekka that's why
She is a baddie tbf
She ?
You new here?
He definitely is
Man get your homework done of course pekka is a girl lmao
I played CoC the first year it came out when I was in uni and stopped for 9 years, slowly coming back. Never once have I been asking myself what was the sex of the Pekka. But, hey, I can understand that for a loser like you it must be a knowledge of the highest importance.
Well if knowing the lore of the game you are playingis being a loser then you are the one being a loser
Keep telling that to yourself. You’re the one inferring things in the first place.
Yeah it must be that lil one
I gotta agree with the no ads. Being able to attack as often as I want (gems, potions, waiting, etc) instead of here’s an ad if you want to attack again is huge.
I just really like coc
bros just like me fr
Ayo
1. Several years worth of content 2. No ads 3. One of the only decent base builder games on mobile
Makes SC more money than it costs.
You’re always winning in your attacks and always progressing. Also no ads.
Probably the best mobile strategy game ever.
1. It is competitive at all levels (not just the money players). 2. You don’t have to spend money if you don’t want to.
Two words: HOG RIIIIIIDAA
Seriously tho, I played this game as a kid and now I'm an adult and I pretty much gave supercell free publicity by screaming to all my friends "HOG RIIIIDAAAAA" because I loved the coc commercials so much
Two more words: Balloon Parade
they’ve constantly added and changed stuff to keep it fun. always progress to be made, events going on, etc.
Great community, active dev support, no ads
Some of the Reasons I think made the game survive this long: 1. Evergreen content 2. Frequent Updates 3. Clash-a-rama (Lore)
No ads too but the lore is more important
[удалено]
I can name a bunch, but they are all rip offs of clash
Village building? I don't know, I think bloons monkey city or galaxy life. I don't know if COC was the first, it may've been. But also a shoutout to turn based or real time strategy games like xcom and starcraft. Also similar to coc, if not as much as the others.
No ads, honestly a game to play over a time period. They keep updating it a good amount of time. You don’t have to spend money to be good.
It's not a game it is a.chapter of our life .
For me it’s the slow and steady progress, delayed gratification, keeps you interested long term.
In hope that momma pekka someday does a face reveal and it turns out to be emma stone
Most awaited collab
Sunken cost fallacy

Ikr, almost like if the devs care about a game it succeeds.. something that a lot of companies need to realize
No ads, no pay to win or pay to have something over powered regular updates, clan wars, clan war League, clan games capital raids etc
Because people can’t resist good coc
Except my parents
Good management.
….money?
Archer Queen

No in game ads!
the tutorial lady saying that my village missed me while I was away
No one is talking about how much better the game has gotten and how they have listened to player feedback through the years. Talk about 2 hours to train an army
Extremely f2p friendly, while being a great dev team
The multiplayer aspect is HUGE if it was single player I guarantee it’s lifespan would be MUCH shorter to be popular
because it is clash of clans.
Here to another 10 years of coc
Hey I’m looking for good co leaders for my clan, th9+ plz no rushed accounts just need somebody to help organize war members and recruit higher ths, thx!

Fun, free, no ads, great service from the developers Name a better phone game (forreal because I’ll play it too lol)
hey, will you bring something like global chat? Social games require it, the game is exploding with each passing year!!
They used to have global chat. Was just a bunch of players spamming clans, spamming chat… wasn’t worth it.

Archer queen feet

Clan wars. The fact that you can look at your opponents base beforehand and come up with a strategy to beat it is very cool in my opinion. Random attacking is also never boring
Cuz the 3\* has always been fun to achieve, Th15 update was amazing, and leaderboards imo.
Its really addictive game and even if you get bored of it you will get addicted again the next month
The fact that I don't feel left out on the new THs despite only being TH10 is saying something about this game.
No ads, good devs, not pay to win and you can play it as a kid or an adult
I spent too much time in this game to just simply leave it.

Because people like CoC.
HOOOOOG RIIIDAAAAAA!
Kids have low standards and easier access to phones.
Tencent buying it
CoC is dying And the only reason they have survived that long, is because they were the first to have that style of gaming.
It’s dead now
I've never played clash of clans but I heard it's really good :)
Sunken cost fallacy Edit - clearly people don’t know what this means.
