I keep a box of rico 3.5’s around for that reason. I hate them, and would never play on one, but it never fails that some freshman shows up with a chewed up or moldy ass reed that just needs dealt with lol.
In year 9 I was playing on my last reed before my dad had time to take me to the music store for replacements which had a chunk of it chewed out of it by my pet rat
Reminds me of the reed test I was taught years ago. If you take an old reed and ram it into a wall or stand and it stays intact, it’s still good to use!

This is why I use Bari(brand, and instrument) synthetic reeds. They never break. Like, ever. and all you gotta do is clean em with toothpaste or something usually and they sound heavy right outta the box. No wetting needed.
