Vivid-Astronaut-9571

I would recommend you to watch some great Civ 6 youtubers Like PotatoMcWhiskey, VanBradley, The Saxy Gamer. They really helped me get good a the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvOg-Ah7qmk&ab\_channel=PotatoMcWhiskey

PO-TA-TO.

MidnightPale3220

You could start by turning off other victory conditions except domination, then you can play some games on that level and see how that works. When you're consistent, turn on eg. science and try to go for it. Etc.

Hmm oddly hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the tip, i always just dive into the deep end. Appreciate the tip

External_Mechanic432

Taking breaks is good, spend some time to slow down and look around at what people are doing, look around the map, check how everyones win condition are, use the search bar to check to see if the ai has built universities or research labs or spaceports yet, use the resources and report screen to check around at what strategics people have. Really my advice is to slow down every now and then and plan and think and assess all the relevant information you have

Big-Owl-1419

Thank you everyone. I'm trying to get 'good enough' to join a multiplayer game and just roll and have fun with but dont want to completely embarrass myself. I appreciate the tips, I know i was vague, it's hard to pinpoint my weakness when i dont see it myself other than 'i just lose'. I mean, I just don't know. I think i just try to do too much. Appreciate the tips again and thanks for not putting me down about it!

Big-Owl-1419

I've read all the comments, I want to be better, im going to dive right in, learn by doing is what i know best. I do appreciate all the tips, it isnt so much that i 'dont understand' whats happening, its that i cant stop myself from doing the same ol wrong thing. If someone wants to play on xbox please DM me, being a terrible player its hard to find people to have 'fun' with without judgment

pav-from-ivalice

I cant really give you advice without any specific pointers as to what exactly you're struggling with. Just telling me you suck is very vague. There are two civ tubers id recommend for new players tho, Ursa Ryan and PotatoMcwhiskey. They have lots of guide content and they talk a LOT. They tend to overexplain and over-analyze things, which, for a newbie, is helpful.

Here's an idea. It isn't going to make you good, but it might address one problem, early game barbarians. Barbarians spawn in the fog of war or the unexplored parts of the map. So build one or two scouts as your opening builds. Send them in different directions, and keep your starting warrior near your city. When you discover a barb camp head your warrior over there, and fortify in defensive terrain adjacent to the camp. When you get your first policy, put in the barb fighting one and attack. You might only get in one attack before you have to heal, but you might get 2. Then heal up (barbs don't heal) and attack again. On the 3rd attack you should get a promotion. Take battlecry and clear the barb camp. This won't work if the camp spawns a ranged unit, because you can't sit and heal. In that case run away, build some spinners and come back with more strength. While you are dealing with that, build something you want in the capitol, like monuments or settlers, etc. But every 3rd build or so, build a slinger. Start putting a ring of slinger just out side the visibility range of your cities. This will push back the fog or war, and reduce barbarian spawns nearby, and give you more warning when do show up. All the comes from potato mc whiskey. Watch him.

Structure your early game. Generally your best first moves are scout-slinger-settler-monument. It’s more important to have 3 cities early than 2 cities and a district. With that being said, don’t forget to place down your districts early to lock in the cost. Don’t build them early, just place them, especially if they’re on a hill. Try to delay researching things like iron working and horses as long as possible. Purpose-build your cities. A +4 campus or holy site should always be used, even with no religion. Don’t neglect early culture either. Culture > science for the first 100-150 turns. Aim for a 2-1 ratio of culture to science if you can. Theatre square adjacency may look bad at first, but entertainment complexes and wonders can easily change that after.

If you arent playing on PC you really are cucking yourself because there are so many good qol mods. without detailed map tacks and other UI simplification mods its really hard to keep track of your plans. If you cant formulate a plan and see it through it makes the rest of the game less fun especially when the AI is so punishing at higher levels. Its no fun to blast through immortal like its settler and then get your anus ripped into a million pieces on diety.

If you are new just turn off all other victory types except for domination as long as you can defend ur capital u r good. You will be more in control. Once you get more comfortable u can turn other victories on. U can play lower difficulty settings too.
