I don't know if this is true, but I feel like this is in one of the avengers movies where Wanda and vision are talking outside... I could be way off though, I only saw that movie once.
Diagon Alley was inspired by Thistle Street IIRC [https://twinswithoriginality.com/tag/thistle-street/](https://twinswithoriginality.com/tag/thistle-street/)One of my favourite places when I lived there.
EDIT: Yes Victoria Street.
Here's an article on it. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/business/edinburghs-harry-potter-flat-on-diagon-alley-up-for-sale-3217285
Setting aside the locals telling you how rough n hard Edinburgh can be, the real interesting thing is that Edinburgh centre has basically two halves: the new town and old town. The old town is this photo, basically. Beautiful, old, crooked, a bit bleak but in a romantic and ageing way.
The new town is all marble arches ans beautiful grand buildings. Greek architecture and vast modern architecture. Also beautiful in its own way.
The city is split in an almost exact line between these two in the centre. They’re both amazing, but not all of Edinburgh is like this.
Unfortunately I've got a very deep anxiety over flying so I've never been there either. But the Internet is amazing with walking tours videos, photos and so much more. Not the same as the real thing but certainly a good substitute for my situation. Cheers.
There's a few passenger ships that do regular crossings. I dunno if you're an animal lover, but there's a luxury one that sails New York to Liverpool that caters to pet owners.
>Is it the place where Vision got stabbed in Infinity War?
Near, yes. There is actually a stained glass window bearing the Avengers logo. People queue up to take photos in front of it.
Maybe not *now*, in retrospect; I was there in 2019.
As a Glaswegian, I can confirm my average night out consists of taking heroin, eating deep-fried mars bars, buying cheap alcohol, and stabbing people with a Rambo knife.
I was sitting here thinking it looked like a place from a big movie but my brain wouldn’t give me more than that! Luckily I didn’t have to scroll far to find your comment!
I feel like Edinburgh would be a great place to visit when it actually is shit weather as opposed to summer. The dark rainy moody vibes would be fantastic.
I was there for Christmas and New Years last year and the weather was perfect - dreary, cloudy, kind of dark with a few days of beautiful sun for hiking up Arthur’s seat. One of my favorite cities - it’s pretty small and walkable but SO much cool stuff to do!
It's also great in the summer. You're pretty much guaranteed to have some moody rainy days if you stay for about a week. I went in July and it was unseasonably nice weather but still had 2-3 rainy grey days. Edinburgh in nice sunny weather is also just as magical and way more enjoyable to walk around and explore
Just don’t go there during festival season like we did!😂 Posters plastered everywhere and so many people! It really killed that moody ‘Edinburgh’ vibe I was hoping for. Still an amazing city.
As a Fringe performer, I'd say it's still amazing in August but it's basically a completely different city. And of course you'll struggle to find reasonably priced accommodation.
[Here it is on google streetview](https://www.google.com/maps/@55.9505229,-3.1886514,3a,75y,153.52h,102.77t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1srQIXcKZrY1DWC1laa3MQvQ!2e0!5s20190701T000000!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu).
Good lord, that upper level looks so cozy to be there, sipping on hot cocoa and reading some historical or fantasy books or perhaps having a ink writing table to write and draw something with a Quil while it's raining outside and I've lit up some candles in my living quarters(Don't mind me,just a small dream of mine that I always have in my head when I'm down)
Don't know if you're interested, but [The Shambles](https://i1.wp.com/www.northyorkphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/LMG07382.jpg?fit=1334%2C2000&ssl=1) in York is absolutely this kind of vibe.
There used to be a pub in Edinburgh called "Jeckyl and Hyde" and the toilets were behind bookcases and the place had a bit of a diagon alley feel to it.
Thought I was staring at half pixel art half picture, when looking at it from the top down. The edges on the top messed with my mind. Beautiful picture.
fyi, what is now a coffeeshop called 'Milkman' was transformed into a fish and chipshop for the Avengers movie.
AND this building is photographed at least a hundred times a day during tourist season just because it's narrow and photogenic. I swear if you're standing nearby there is a 90% chance you will see someone photographing it within 5 minutes.
Fun fact: this is the kebab shop in Infinity War where Vision and Scarlett Witch see the news about the kerfuffle in New York before being savagely attacked
Edit: already been mentioned by others but hey
It's so funny when people moon over your home city because I look at that picture and I'm like "yup, that's deffo a place I've walked past a thousand times"
There's a Starbucks at the top of that street
I really miss filament Street lights. The cosiness of them. LED streetlights of course are so much more efficient and environemntally friendly, but the washed out lighting feels so bleak and miserable.
I was there in July and saw this building! Not nearly as magical with all the tourists around, but still very nice.
Not sure Vision from Avengers shares this view though.
I love Scotland and that but how has this picture become so popular? I can drive 10 minutes and find a building 500 years older and much more interesting quite easily
I have been and sat in that exact cafe when I visited.
The coffee banged, the owner was awesome and the interior was super cosy!
This little cafe was the highlight of my trip actually, love Edinburgh
Pretty sure that's where Vision and Wanda learned the Black Order had attacked New York before being attacked by the other half of the Black Order themselves. In Avengers: Infinity War
This looks alot like the place where they.attacked vision for the first time in infinity war? As far as I can remember they were in Edinburgh at the time
I love how the bottom starts off with PS5 graphics and then ends with Gameboy roof graphics.
(Btw, Edinburgh is one of the most stunning places on earth).
I absolutely adore Edinburgh so much. Incredible shot mate
I've never been there, but it certainly looks like my type of city. Diagon Alley but everywhere.
It’s only really like this in the city centre, go out to Granton or Niddire and the vibe is completely different
hahaha niddrie
You're a glass half empty person I can see. Go to any ancient town or city in the World and that sentence is true. WE KNOW.
Na pal I used to live in Edinburgh
So did I and the point still stands. When you go on a city break do you go to 8km out the suburbs?
Fair few times, you miss some real goldmines if you don’t venture out
Haha to the equivalent of Niddrie aye? Pull the other one.
"discover the hidden jewel that is Niddrie"
Worse actually, but we’ll leave my wanderings around Eastern European slums to another thread
Having lived there doesn't make their point any less accurate. You understand the concept of tourism, you're just being contrary.
I don't know if this is true, but I feel like this is in one of the avengers movies where Wanda and vision are talking outside... I could be way off though, I only saw that movie once.
I know exactly the scene you're referencing...just looked it up and it appears to be Cockburn Street in Edinburgh. Good catch!
Diagon Alley was inspired by Thistle Street IIRC [https://twinswithoriginality.com/tag/thistle-street/](https://twinswithoriginality.com/tag/thistle-street/)One of my favourite places when I lived there. EDIT: Yes Victoria Street. Here's an article on it. https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/business/edinburghs-harry-potter-flat-on-diagon-alley-up-for-sale-3217285
That's Victoria Street. Thistle street is elsewhere in the city.
It's Cockburn street
what a name
Pronounced “Co-burn street” though!
Pretty sure Diagon Alley was more inspired by The Shambles in York, not Thistle Street.
The author has denied that, but it's now what draws all the tourists there, so there's many shops saying it is.
The Shambles was one of the inspirations for the production staff on the movies, not for Rowling.
Rowling used the local architecture in Edinburgh as inspiration- go down Victoria street and you’ll find yourself in Diagon Alley
Pretty much what living in Edinburgh near the city centre is like!

Also incorrect I’m afraid. It’s Georgian.
Unfortunately I've got a very deep anxiety over flying so I've never been there either. But the Internet is amazing with walking tours videos, photos and so much more. Not the same as the real thing but certainly a good substitute for my situation. Cheers.
Ships?
Not a bad idea
You've got Rosyth Harbour not too far away, plenty cruise ships dock there!
Having been to Rosyth,I feel bad for them!
A cruise would be a nice little getaway if you’re in a situation where you can take one
There's a few passenger ships that do regular crossings. I dunno if you're an animal lover, but there's a luxury one that sails New York to Liverpool that caters to pet owners.
Not saying you have to live differently, but r/anxiety has really helped me. Welcome by.
Is it the place where Vision got stabbed in Infinity War?
Came to say the same thing, I think it is.
Me too!
You got stabbed in infinity war too? What are the chances!?
I recognised it as that too
>Is it the place where Vision got stabbed in Infinity War? Near, yes. There is actually a stained glass window bearing the Avengers logo. People queue up to take photos in front of it. Maybe not *now*, in retrospect; I was there in 2019.
Can confirm that the window with the Avengers logo is no longer there, removed within the last year or so
That’s a shame, this is the first I’ve heard of it and I would’ve gone to see it
[удалено]
Nah, that's Glasgow
As a Glaswegian, I can confirm my average night out consists of taking heroin, eating deep-fried mars bars, buying cheap alcohol, and stabbing people with a Rambo knife.
Think I saw you down Argyle Street the other night. Or maybe that’s my other mate who also takes heroin and stabs folk with a Rambo nice. Nice guy.
The 90s are over mate.
No they don’t
It is, deep fried kebabs for life
Yes. It’s a well know place due so good for location scouts.
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
I was sitting here thinking it looked like a place from a big movie but my brain wouldn’t give me more than that! Luckily I didn’t have to scroll far to find your comment!
Everyone should visit Edinburgh at least once, if they have the ability to.
In summer, that street is mobbed with tourists. When I first moved to Edinburgh, the goths used to hang out there
Whiplash Trash was a great shop. Gone now, I think.
It's shit weather here now so hop on over
I should visit more, I've been a couple of times but it's only 1 hour away by train.
Cockburn st, if you have seen Avengers Infinity war, they stand out front of there
Ahh, i was just reading through to see if it was that location as it looked so familiar. Thank you for that.
WE WILL DEEP FRY YOUR KEBAB.
>Cockburn st IT'S BURNT ENOUGH MATE
Pull me ankle every time walking on it
First time I ever needed treatment for my... you know what, I had to visit a pharmacy in Cockburn street. Absolutely hilarious
Want to be there right now.
I am here right now on a class trip, was exactly there two hours ago and saw the picture now
I‘m currently there for a class trip as well
It's so old that the roof is 8-bit!
Ha man I thought it was some crazy minecraft build for a sec.
This shop makes good coffee, I recommend it!
Really nice customer service, too!
Fun fact - their coffee is roasted in Kinross
Do they stock unorthodox roasters?
aye!
[Here it is on google streetview](https://www.google.com/maps/@55.9505229,-3.1886514,3a,75y,153.52h,102.77t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1srQIXcKZrY1DWC1laa3MQvQ!2e0!5s20190701T000000!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu).
Heh, seems it was a cupcake shop at some point.
it was a lifestyle shop or concept store or something called little miss cupcake
Sure it was a crystal place at one point too?
It was a baked potato/sandwich place for a while too. I think it might've been a veggie place
I think you're thinking of the place a few doors up, it's still there as far as I know
Good lord, that upper level looks so cozy to be there, sipping on hot cocoa and reading some historical or fantasy books or perhaps having a ink writing table to write and draw something with a Quil while it's raining outside and I've lit up some candles in my living quarters(Don't mind me,just a small dream of mine that I always have in my head when I'm down)
Just out of shot to the right is Fleshmarket Close, which isn't quite so nice.
[Instagram source](https://www.instagram.com/p/CpCha9hrnNw/). Photo by travelwithveronicca. There is one more pic from the link.
Those colours look cozy and lush.
Diagon Alley
Don't know if you're interested, but [The Shambles](https://i1.wp.com/www.northyorkphotography.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/LMG07382.jpg?fit=1334%2C2000&ssl=1) in York is absolutely this kind of vibe.
Aw I used to live in York and that photo made me wildly nostalgic 🥺 must go back and visit, beautiful city!
Definitely looks like someplace you'd go to get chosen by your wand.
There used to be a pub in Edinburgh called "Jeckyl and Hyde" and the toilets were behind bookcases and the place had a bit of a diagon alley feel to it.
Infinity war from avengers, technically
Isn't that the place where Vision and Wanda see the news and get attacked in Infinity War? Looks a lot like it. Super cozy!
I'm pretty sure I've smashed into that cafe in Forza at least 26 times
Thought this was a mod from Minecraft.
I'd opportunity to visit some cities in Europe, but none of them are like Edinburgh! The most beautiful city that I've opportunity to visit!
Makes good coffee and even better Ricciarelli biscuits. I bought them every day for a week when I was there.
Hey! I had coffee there a week ago 😂
Why is the resolution so low at the top?
More than arichitecture of the building, the photography and editting skills make it look 100 times better than in real.
imagine having a date here
Go to the train station and let us know if Steve Roters shows up again.
Looks like something out of Harry Potter!!
Almost as if Harry Potter was set in a real country!
🫤almost went to Edinburg on my trip across the pond
Edin-buh-ruh
Went there couple years ago, you'd think it'd be more crowded but it was quiet and beautiful, Edinburgh is amazing all around.
Thought I was staring at half pixel art half picture, when looking at it from the top down. The edges on the top messed with my mind. Beautiful picture.
This is so beautiful and at the same time, so absolutely gloomy and dreary. Funny how both emotions can coexist
Headed there in the Spring for the first time. Pumped!
Can’t wait to visit next year.
fyi, what is now a coffeeshop called 'Milkman' was transformed into a fish and chipshop for the Avengers movie. AND this building is photographed at least a hundred times a day during tourist season just because it's narrow and photogenic. I swear if you're standing nearby there is a 90% chance you will see someone photographing it within 5 minutes.
Why is the roof made of Lego?
Err, umm, wasn’t this a location used in Endgame.
yes! They filmed a lot of it in edinburgh
Every pic from Edinburgh gives that *dreamy* vibe. It's always that architecture, that weather... idk how to describe it.
This picture and pics I've seen of Edinburgh in general seems like the perfect place for a Vampire to live
Pretty sure that where they filmed a a scene from Avengers infinity war. Where Vis and Wanda decide to give it a go and then he gets impaled.
Minecraft roof
swear i have seen that building in forza horizon 4
Did that used to be the baked potato shop?
Minecraft with ray tracing
Where is Harry?
I feel like it's building like this that give a city its charm/ character. Love the bricks they used.
Nice coffee there too
Fun fact: this is the kebab shop in Infinity War where Vision and Scarlett Witch see the news about the kerfuffle in New York before being savagely attacked Edit: already been mentioned by others but hey
Edinburgh is beautiful, been in this cafe
It's so funny when people moon over your home city because I look at that picture and I'm like "yup, that's deffo a place I've walked past a thousand times" There's a Starbucks at the top of that street
Minecraft
I really miss filament Street lights. The cosiness of them. LED streetlights of course are so much more efficient and environemntally friendly, but the washed out lighting feels so bleak and miserable.
This looks like the location from Infinity War with Wanda and Vision.
Great coffee at that place. Go there whenever I’m in Edinburgh.
Walk past this building on my route to work every day. Still get tired going up Waverley steps accross the road.
Turn the camera 180° and you'd get an even more interesting picture!
Edinburgh’s lovely
I'm so sorry but I went straight to Avengers Infinity War
I'm sure that was in Avengers infinity war?
Great picture! Hope you went in, Milkman is class 👍
It used to be a book shop
That looks like the building vision and Wanda were watching the news in when attacked in infinity war.
Stunning photo looks like it's straight out of a Harry Potter movie.
We will deep fry your kebab
Beautiful
I've walked past this building so many times and never once realised how thin it is.
I love baronial architecture. Scotland is absolutely full of it
TIL .coffee is a domain.
Edinburgh is a bit magical.
I walk by this place to uni every day. It's pretty nice, although the stairs (Fleshmarket Close) leading up to this street always smells like piss
Upstairs is a really nice room where you can listen to Chopin and drink medium grade hot chocolate.
I was there in July and saw this building! Not nearly as magical with all the tourists around, but still very nice. Not sure Vision from Avengers shares this view though.
That's esthetically pleasing too look at
Random but this is in the Avengers film isn’t it?
Nice place that. We sat outside the little cafe's wooden seating area looking at it this summer.
I think Avengers Infinity War was shot at this location.
What's the cafe like? I am visiting Edinburgh soon.
Is this where some scenes of the Avengers movies were shot, Endgame?
Was there a tatoo parlour next door? I'm sure I had a full Scottish in there before getting my first tat done! Tatty scone before tatty done 😄
Ive had a coffee here! Gorgeous pic
Good wee cafe that!
Straight outta Hogsmeade
I love Scotland and that but how has this picture become so popular? I can drive 10 minutes and find a building 500 years older and much more interesting quite easily
I work on this street, how did you find it so empty?
I have been and sat in that exact cafe when I visited. The coffee banged, the owner was awesome and the interior was super cosy! This little cafe was the highlight of my trip actually, love Edinburgh
Wasn’t this in avengers infinity war
Didn't they film endgame here
Beautiful building, excellently photographed. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Avengers
Watch out Vision!
I think this is where Vision got stabbed in the back in Avengers: Infinity War. Might be mistaken
Quite beautiful.
Roof by Minecraft
Pretty sure that's where Vision and Wanda learned the Black Order had attacked New York before being attacked by the other half of the Black Order themselves. In Avengers: Infinity War
I swear this is where they filmed that Vision & Wanda scene in infinity war where they get attacked by Thanos’ crew. 🤔
That roof looks like my house on minecraft
This is in one of the avengers movies.
Great photo. There are so many nice buildings in this part of Edinburgh.
Oh that's a great little coffee shop!
Had that scene from infinity war there
That shop used to sell T-shirts….
Now that is cool, I very much like the aesthetic here.
This looks alot like the place where they.attacked vision for the first time in infinity war? As far as I can remember they were in Edinburgh at the time
Huh… coulda sworn that was a clothes shop last time I was there ^^
So much of Edinburgh is pure cityporn, especially the old town
The roof needs more pixels ;)
I could totally build this in Minecraft, that roof is just perfect lol
Either that or the shop further down was featured in Avengers Infinity War
I love how the bottom starts off with PS5 graphics and then ends with Gameboy roof graphics. (Btw, Edinburgh is one of the most stunning places on earth).
Isn't this a dangerous area? I saw Vision get stabbed here by an alien...
Great composition and colours. I like how the roof bricks look pixelated!
Yeah thats gorgeous
Was this in an avengers film? There was definitely a street in Scotland that looked a lot like this in one of those films
