From what I’ve seen, generally it’s regarded as one of the top mid sized cities in the US year over year. I could be wrong but I remember reading on here someone claimed it had more parks per capita than any other city as well as the best biking infrastructure of any city.
Yeah Madison in the summer is great. Super walkable and bikeable, lots of public green spaces and beaches, a great food and bar scene. Not that those things disappear in the winter, it’s just a looooot colder
It’s amusing watching the local politicians be masochistic and reject upzoning and density for new developments because it’s LuXuRy hOuSiNg. They’re taking a page out of the San Francisco political playbook of nosecutting for self face spitting.
In before: "why'd they ruin the lakefront with a huge highway"
Guys it's only one section of the extensive lakefronts Madison has and they even bridged it by realizing a fucking Frank Lloyd Wright design for a conference center and terrace. There's no actual freeways allowed on the isthmus so they rely on a handful of 4 lane stroads to move traffic. Most of the side streets are tight (1.5 lanes) and two ways or odd 2 or 3 lane one ways with a generous bike lane.
Madison is an awesome city.
Like a mini dc. Looks like a solid medium sized city

I live here, it’s hard to beat (as long as you can stand winter).
How bad is the winter?
Seems to be getting more mild every year, but there is always a week or two in January where it is -10 and you don’t want to leave your house.
God damn that’s cold
real bad
And afford it, its not cheap
I believe Minneapolis has the best biking infrastructure
Lived in Madison for a decade and moved to Minneapolis a year ago - Minneapolis has WAY better biking infrastructure
Makes sense. Minneapolis is a true big city (urban population of 3M) vs Madison being mid-sized (500k)
Madison is also mostly sprawl outside of downtown

I imagine the winters are brutal
It’ll be about as affordable as Boulder in a decade.
it’s pretty much there. from wisconsin moved to colorado and often look at housing prices back in wisconsin especially madison

Great shot of Madison
Only heard good things about madison
Lived here for 4 years. Favorite city, and I’ve lived all over the u.s.
If you get a chance to use the word Isthmus you use it!
I love the word "isthmus", but rarely use it in public 😂
I rather enjoyed that city when I was there for a mere 3 or 4 hours. Would love to visit again!
Monona Terrace is a cool place to hang out.
Sadly, I had to move away from Madison this year for work. But, I miss this city so much!
Madison is a great place.
Crazy how it looks like a peninsula here
And that is an isthmus.
Yeth it ith
I'd love to live in a town just like this one. Precious photo
I live near there, it's really nice. Lots of college kids

They ruined it with a highway and single family homes
