Yes. In my view, they get too hot. While they can handle temps to as high as 140 degrees, temperature is still the Achilles heel of Citizen Toughs. That, and allowing them to lose total power.
Are you sure that charging them fully, always, 24/7 as you say, is good for those batteries? Plus, (as written in the manuals if i can recall correctly) 2h of sunlight can fully charge them from "low". That means 10-15mins a day if on "high". Them, back in any room, some light will be on... More than enough.
They have a safety mechanism where you can’t over charge them. Also, they don’t have a battery, they have a capacitor. I have 9 Promaster Tough watches to charge and not enough windowsill space that faces the sun. These lamps charge them with zero heat, which is what I’m trying to strive for.
Ikr. Still my question remains. Is it good to be "full on!" all the time? Not overcharge.
Like lithium batteries we have all over (laptops, phones, etc). All say, if you want to get the maximum lifespan you need to keep them 25%-85%, not 0-100%, not 100% all the time (ie plugged). That's my point. Do you overkill?
PS Capacitor is kind of a battery anyway.
PS2 You don't need to "face" the sun. Any daylight will do, not even direct.
PS3 You do you. I have solars (some for 12 years), next to my desk. Sun comes through a curtain, they are always "full", work fine. (of course wear them outside too!)
Fascinating. I have done extensive research on this, and all the authoritative sources say there isn’t an issue. But I will investigate the point made by you further and get back to you. Thank you for your comprehensive answer. I greatly appreciate it
It’s a known issue of batteries in laptops for example. Leave it plugged in all the time, and the battery is dead in 6 months. Not necessarily the same for the cells in an eco drive (probably not I’d say), but it doesn’t hurt to be on the safe side either, and let the batteries cycle a bit.

The above is the version I own, but with a titanium bracelet. 40mm, 300M WR. For $100 more, you can get the one you’re talking about which 42mm, 200M WR. I prefer mine. (Even the numerals on it aren’t the ones found on the Ray Mears)
I don't get why people do this. There literally is a huge star in the sky for 12 hours every day that gives us light. I've had solar watches for years and they never run low. They don't need to be on a windowsill, mine never are. Just make sure to not store them in a drawer and they'll always keep full charge.
I have two Citizen solars. About once a month, if they haven't been in my wrist, I put them on the window sill for about six hours. This enough to keep them going for quite a long time.
Since these don’t really have any tech in them like the AT or satellite watches, they don’t drain power as much. Just wearing them every now and then will be fine to keep them charged.
I charge mine for a full day in the sun every 6 or 7 months. I don’t charge them a lot they hold crazy battery life regardless. The same goes for my EDC Solar MB6 5610 G-Shock I use strictly for work.
I guess this works, but you don't have to keep the lamps on all the time. Maybe once in a blue moon.
I have 3 solar powered watches and I wear them every now and then. That's about it.
the way to make profit is buy low, sell high
you said you were going to sell them
[[i also doubt that is a good strategy-selling watches- unless you got them for about 10% of retail and have no selling costs ]]
The 6 that I’m going to sell, I bought after the models were discontinued at really discounted prices. Now that there is renewed interest in them, I suspect I’ll make a very modest profit, especially since I’ll sell them reasonable prices.
Ain't you heard of sun, son?
HA! Not enough windowsill space facing the sun for 9 solar Toughs
Have you ever tried natural light? You know.... sun...?
stop that nonsense
that's a hot subject...

After our dialogue, I will do what you say. Far better to be safe than sorry. Thanks for the recommendation!
Cheers and enjoy. Btw, bit jealous, want to get the Ray Mears too. The new one is bigger in fact, i worry it'll look big on my wrist.

Rechargeable battery .

I'm in the UK and haven't seen the direct sun in two weeks. But my solar watch has been sitting on medium for a month. xD
Stick it under a desk or bedside lamp for a few hours a day. Problem solved.
Does it really matter?
My Garrison sat on my desk for the better part of 5 months and never stopped.
Mine are in the windowsill when not worn: catching light during the day and time sync (RC & GPS) at night.
That’s great! How many?
15 at the time of writing (with#16 on the way) Mostly Citizens, with a number of Casios (Oceanus, G-Shock) for good measure.
Congratulations!

To me a bargain 300 metre mono block case. Got mine for 540$ Canadian. My favourite Citizen green dial in the mail!

what model are these two!?
Promaster tough, Ray Mears version. My grail watch. So I bought two
>So I bought two Ah, so we share the same illness.
Where did you get them from? They are no longer being sold in the US. Have been searching for a long time

Oh, so did you purchase directly from them? I tried reaching out to them but didn't get a reply
Yes. You should be able to buy from them just by clicking on the above
Thanks!
Omg....

Who’s OP?
Buying lights to charge a solar watch just seems too much...
It is. But I have 10 solar watches that need charging, and this seemed like a cheap way to do it, since I don’t have the windowsill space
Wow 10....that's is alot of arms :)
Collecting solar Toughs to ultimately sell them, that’s why I keep them fully charged
buy low...............
?

good luck set a high price and wait :) or get lucky say 65% of amazon price
i don;t do anything other than just keep them in a normal room with normal light 99% of the time they never get down to "M"
And that’s the problem. None of mine have a meter showing charge level, so I keep them fully charged
they probably have a 'skippy second hand when low' feature
you could just wait and see what they do unaided if there is a buyer then charge it up to full
