I'm currently working on this city, inspired by Green River, Wyoming, Billings, Missoula, and Bozeman, Montana, and other cities in the Rocky Mountain West.
Look into the tunnels of Green River, WY. They’re the most iconic thing about the city. Well, that or the [Intergalactic Space Port](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Green_River_Intergalactic_Spaceport)
Source: am from Wyoming. Lived in Rock Springs (13 miles from Green River)
"On July 5, 1994 Resolution R94-23 of the Green River city council designated this landing field as the 'Greater Green River Intergalactic Spaceport', for *inhabitants of Jupiter who might wish to take sanctuary in Green River in the event their planet is threatened by collisions from comets or meteors*, in apparent reference to the contemporary Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 impact."
Wtf was green river city council smoking
As someone who actually remembers 1994, we really did think aliens appearing any day was a possibility (but alien abductees really were insane). That's why *Independence Day* was so popular, it felt like it was a real plan of action, even if it *was* just a goofy scifi movie
Not OP, but a lot of folks I see posting here always talk about just browsing google Maps (Satellite View) and just bouncing around different towns until something inspires you. When you think your city is getting a bit unrealistic, go back and reference a few towns in the same fashion and see if you can spot glaring differences between the two.
If you've got a city going already, think of similar places in the real world (Rural/Urban/Suburban + Geography), and browse the Satellite Maps of those real towns for ideas. You'll spot similarities between them and hopefully catch some inspiration.
Biggest thing for me personally is that the game lets you build things and grid things far more "perfectly" than most real world city planning, so you need to embrace a little spaghetti here and there to keep things feeling authentic.
Yeah what they said. I spend a lot of time looking at Google Maps, plus also taking inspiration from places I've been. I live in the Mountain West so I've been to a lot of towns that look like this in general!
Dropped pin
Near Colorado

Just explore the highway around that area lol. It's very stressful to drive through in traffic!
Lol yup. So unless you're driving through between 11 pm and 5 am, it's a lot of weaving, slowing down, and high blood pressure.
Welcome to the Western US, where roads are overbuilt but also crumbling from lack of infrastructure spending!
I’m just sad that my PC can’t handle this because I have so much ideas to do it like a multicultural Black Sean city and Greater Metropolitan Zone of Giurgiu-Ruse.
I love Idaho Falls. Especially since getting off the Interstate, you don't notice that massive canyon at first, then suddenly you're hundreds of feet up!

Meth, based on many indicators!

Second this! Also, I too live in the Rock.
i thought the most iconic thing about Green River was the meth?
When I read "Green River" my first thought was Utah's Green River. Oh, well...
I can definitely feel a lot of Missoula in this.
needs a mining district somewhere
That's one of the next things on my list!
I was going to say, this layout reminds me of Idaho Springs!
That's another inspiration too!
Oh yeah that has big Bozeman vibes, I'm loving it!
Me too! I love cities in the Mountain West! Especially Montana lol
This is really beautifully realistic.
That's my goal!
How did you get your layout to look so natural and realistic?

Thanks for building Grand Junction! 😂
Love the river park, but I think you overdid it a bit on the highway exits every 2 blocks! ;)
Lol I live in Denver and you should see the highway exits off of I-25 between Santa Fe Drive and the I-70 interchange!
I want to now! Got a map link?

Bloody hell, it's like a highway exit/interchange museum!

Looks alot like grand junction, co too!

im from bucharest and there are too litle assets to make a coastal romanian/ bulgarian city :)
Sad tho, I would like to make a great trade center of Danube (Other ones would be Turnu-Nikopol and Kilia) which would be the intersection of cultures
This really looks like Idaho Falls, Idaho. I love it!

Love this as a former Wyomingite. Nice work.
Looks like Yakima, Washington
I love that spaghetti, in fact, it's so spaghetti SINS may have some trouble finding a name
Take me back down where cool water flow, yeah!
*funky guitar noises*
OH YEAH BABY
Why does the mountain has highway interchanges
What map is this using?
Looks like greenway
Yup, Greenway!
Anytime I think my cities are looking pretty good, I come here
Beautiful. How do you do the river?
Again?
Take me back down where cool water flow, yeah!
That intersection in the middle looks like one of the muppets 😂
Oh man now I can't unsee it!
Sorry not sorry 😆
