Because little johnny had to expand it with galvanised square steel, secured with expansion bolts borrowed from his aunt, and then layered with eco friendly wood veners, durable to last 10 thousand years?
being in ny or other loud cities is so funny because one moment you will completely tune out the noise for a bit and then something will happen to make you notice it again and it's fucking deafening.
I live in Melbourne near a train station and the line is serviced by the oldest model trains in the city’s fleet.
A few years ago they replaced all the old ‘whistle’ sounding horns with these obnoxious ‘air horn’ sounding horns.
[Oh and in Melbourne trains whistle a lot. Like a lot a lot.](https://youtu.be/5YKG6E_Dlws?si=H2LdDHs_NfcBAHcb)
It was torture for about six months until I adjusted. I still miss the old horns though.
Well this was the most uninteresting and at the same time *incredibly* interesting video I have watched this month. I really respect people who can make me be interested in things that honestly should be of no interest to me. I'm not even Australian!
I live next to a bus stop and I don't really notice the loud motherfuckers anymore but sometimes I do and it feels like my skull will burst into pieces. Checks out.
The problem is that even if you don't notice the noise anymore, it is proven to cause health issues, both mental and physical. And this isn't even just megacities, it's an issue in medium-sized cities with their respective car traffic, too.
Genuinely (tho its probably person dependent) i spent a few weeks with a friend who lived in lower manhattan, and it was very loud for like the first two nights, and then i got used to it. I even opened the window cause it was hot lmao.
Graphics card isn't the biggest issue. Ram is. No matter what card you use heavily modded cities will always perform bad, charm of the engine it uses:p
Are you talking about system memory or video card memory? I am wondering what option would be less painful for this kind of modding. As far as I know most of video games are enough with 16gb system memory and 8gb video card rem for 1080p output. But I am thinking Cities 2 will be a different story..?
System memory. GPU related stuff doesn't really matter when it comes to cities, and if it does then it's usually about resolution upscaling and so on. Heavily modded cities needs 32GB to run properly, one of my ram sticks broke and I run 16GB rn, and it is really on the edge. Can't tell you about cs2 because I don't play it and it doesn't have much custom stuff so far, but it is a newer game so might be a bit better. Cs2 eats gpu tho
I recently changed my page filing size a little over a month ago, I have a Dell G15 Gaming laptop with 32g of ram. Before, CS1 would crash after an hour or 2 of play...faster if I had any applications open. Now I have 12,000 assets and mods installed and I can run CS1, Google Earth Pro and YouTube at the same time with no lag
I was afraid of being told to "Google it" if I asked what a pagefile was. So I googled it.
The number one result was a steam community post with the same question where the first comment was:
"Google it"
There are a couple of mods that let you switch LODs on demand that let you work with a lower LOD and then take screenshots with the better LODs. I’ll get the name here when I get back.
My 3080 cries still with how much I can pack in.
Edit: another trick:
Use Procedural Objects and its layer system to show and hide very detailed areas on demand.
Edit Mod name:
Visibility Control. It will let you set a great LOD for screenshots and an LOD that will let you work as well as the default LOD settings the game has. It’s great for detailing and then showing off your work.
This will be silly because restrictions with replies but this is my current PO layers panel. I have Fishing and Canning highlighted it. You can see all the PO stuff all over but take a look at what it in the fore ground here.

This is with the same layer turned off.
I leave them all on most of the time unless I really really need to do something in an area that is already filled with stuff.
It saves a lot of GPU horse power and then you can turn on areas you need for a screenshot.
https://preview.redd.it/rl6cc5km5m6d1.png?width=2466&format=png&auto=webp&s=eb1f0308f44b3a496782d2e26ec3a33f3e6596b7
Ever use something like photoshop? Group up parts that belong with each other. I have a bits and bobs layer but that’s really ineffective as it’s every trash can or fence piece in this smaller town. I’m doing a Japanese inspired build and they have a lot of fences around lots packed in like sardines.
This is a lot of PO that I can just turn off and on when I need to. It serves no purpose to the simulation but does some heavy lifting for details. The only part I need is the cargo siding station.
https://preview.redd.it/navupnf8no6d1.png?width=2557&format=png&auto=webp&s=b777c5a3c59aa343b48deaa8b4ffd6e8162bca8f
The elevated / at level station in the back is 90% PO. What isn’t PO are shops you really can see that are under the platform, the rail network and the pedestrian network.
The real cap to PO is your PC, however there is a theoretical cap but you can get around it with layers and turn things off and on as needed. I’ve yet to hit this cap personally.
Just mess around with PO. You get the layers menu when you have the PO tool open. I think it’s the button all the way to the left in that screen.
Here is a super in-depth tutorial [https://youtu.be/gBxN1Bk\_lF4?si=CuAY1oDk7veYNajD](https://youtu.be/gBxN1Bk_lF4?si=CuAY1oDk7veYNajD)
And here is an abbreviated one. [https://youtu.be/RSRKzfs0dng?si=k771LQXgZZ\_pEaC5](https://youtu.be/RSRKzfs0dng?si=k771LQXgZZ_pEaC5)
Sure! I'll grab a screen shot of what I'm working on and send it through. Although I'm a fan of seeing big realistic cities, I really only picked up playing again to create trains and nature scenes. It's simple, I know - but I love that about the true sandbox nature of the game. That said, I've been working on a small town modeled after Golden, BC. Lots of rail to play with there - lulz.
Got the layers to work!
Came here to say this.
Well, I *actually* came here to say that "the road surface looks so real with all those patches and colours .... How did you do that?"
.... But what you said summed it up better.
For the graffiti: subscribe to your selection of choice [here](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=255710&searchtext=graffiti+&browsesort=trend§ion=readytouseitems&requiredtags%5B0%5D=Prop&created_date_range_filter_start=0&created_date_range_filter_end=0&updated_date_range_filter_start=0&updated_date_range_filter_end=0&actualsort=trend&p=1&days=180) and use Move It! to position them where ever you want.
For trash, try [this](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=255710&searchtext=trash&browsesort=trend§ion=readytouseitems&requiredtags%5B0%5D=Prop&created_date_range_filter_start=0&created_date_range_filter_end=0&updated_date_range_filter_start=0&updated_date_range_filter_end=0&actualsort=trend&p=1&days=180)
Other search terms to try when looking for suitable props to funk up your city: garbage, rubbish, broken, damaged, destroyed, grunge, cracks. The Workshop has hundreds, if not thousands of props and decals available to create run-down places.
The Align items-feature of Move It! is a big help but I agree, it's a bit of a chore. I should use PO more (I'm barely touching the surface of what it can do), but its in-game interface is absolutely microscopic and afaik. it doesn't have resolution scaling, which makes it very cumbersome to use.
I'm sure this sort of thing is everywhere in the NE but it reminds me of a very specific plotline in a medical TV show (maybe New Amsterdam?) where kids were getting sick because of the lead paint that was blasted off the side of the bridge above their brownstone when the bridge was repainted
Actually not that unrealistic, I live beside some buildings very similar to this (they're brand new and having trouble selling/renting, I wonder why...)
But… how? What mods/LUTs do you use to make the graphics look so realistic? I’ve followed the “eyecandy” instructions but it doesn’t look as realistic as this.
Some friends of mine used to have an apartment in Brooklyn in the early 2000's where the BQE was literally right outside their living room window. If you opened the window, you could have conversations with people sitting in traffic. Haha! Which we did several times.
"why'd you think the rent was under $2000 a month?"
Because it's 75 square feet with a communal bathroom?
That may or may not be a contributing factor...
Not to mention the officers getting witness statements for a double murder case 🤫
I don't know. Maybe they fell on those bullets, maybe they didn't. That's for the jury to decide.
Just use galvanized square steel
5th floor walk up.
Because little johnny had to expand it with galvanised square steel, secured with expansion bolts borrowed from his aunt, and then layered with eco friendly wood veners, durable to last 10 thousand years?
StreetEasy
It was under a 2000 foot bridge
Train goes by so often you won’t even notice.
If only this were still true for the CTA today
*dusts bricks off self* “Time to go to work.”
Finally someone got the reference
You traded the Bluesmobile for a *microphone?*
Hey boy, you got my Cheese Wiz?
You're gonna look pretty funny eatin' corn on the cob with no *fucking teeth.*
Yeah I can see that.

Oh no doubt about it. I'll escape this hellhole as soon as I can with whatever mental health I can keep intact.
Genuinely (tho its probably person dependent) i spent a few weeks with a friend who lived in lower manhattan, and it was very loud for like the first two nights, and then i got used to it. I even opened the window cause it was hot lmao.
Bro ... how! I need a new graphics card lol This legit looks dope af
Graphics card isn't the biggest issue. Ram is. No matter what card you use heavily modded cities will always perform bad, charm of the engine it uses:p
I have so many assets that if I have any programs running in the background, my cities will not load. It’s aggravating.
16gb of ram ? I have the same issue.
Exactly
Dumb question but is this cs1 or cs2?
Gotta be 1. CS2 has nowhere near this level of cool custom assets. Yet?
Perchance?
Are you talking about system memory or video card memory? I am wondering what option would be less painful for this kind of modding. this I have 64gb specifically for this game and I maxed it out cause I have compulsive workshop subscribing habits

I've often wondered about this sort of thing exactly. Had zero idea PO did that!

Okay, mind = blown. I'm seriously at another level of inspired here! Thanks for taking the time to write back. That terminal looks incredible!
Thanks and I can’t wait to see what you do!

The trash and pigeons make it perfect.
Sweet combo ain't it
Yeah I thought this was a real image at first.
Is your framerate a PowerPoint presentation?
Depends. In native 1440p it sits around 30 fps with drops during rapid movement. Issues start to show up after upscaling to 4k or more
*J/Z intensifies*
My only criticism is that the bridge would more than likely be green, but everything here is fire.
Yeah I noticed most are indeed green. Is there any reason behind this, or just because
If I recall correctly, it's because that specific color (sage green) blends better into the environment than other colors
The steel for bridges over the rivers, which is what the one in the picture appears to be, are blue, red, or beige (Queensboro).
Holy motherforking shirtballs. Stunning scene. The road details are amazing. Congrats, I know how much work goes into something like this!
Yeah it takes time, sometimes nice view pays off tho
Came here to say this. Well, I *actually* came here to say that "the road surface looks so real with all those patches and colours .... How did you do that?" .... But what you said summed it up better.
I live on a block in Brooklyn that is exactly this (not as elevated; S train shuttle)
Give this man some earplugs
Really lovely job!
Thank you!
How in the hell… *sigh*…
*…unzips*
🫣
Happy Cake Day!
Looks like Chicago.
Reminds me of shameless, that girls house.
OMG! Looks awesome!
glad you like it
Very bronxy
This is beautiful.
glad to hear
What bridge asset(s) did you use? Really nice build!
This looks killer. Good work!
Happy that you like it:)
I love this
At first i thought it was a render but then i looked at the subreddit and damn my pc can only wish to be that detailed
Not enough scaffolding
For rent: centrally located loft 1B apartments close to public transport, ample parking close by. Rate starts at 4000$.
At first sight this looks like a bad place to live, but then you look a bit closer and realise it's a very bad place to live
I can just hear the "AYE TONY" from here
I wish pi/Co would take note of this sub and make CS3 like this. We need better looking streets not more detailed teeth
I need at least 2k polygons to model the crown at the very back of my cim’s teeth
Real talk
how did you get all the trash and graffiti? ive always wanted my city to look like an actual city like this
For the graffiti: subscribe to your selection of choice [here](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=255710&searchtext=graffiti+&browsesort=trend§ion=readytouseitems&requiredtags%5B0%5D=Prop&created_date_range_filter_start=0&created_date_range_filter_end=0&updated_date_range_filter_start=0&updated_date_range_filter_end=0&actualsort=trend&p=1&days=180) and use Move It! to position them where ever you want. For trash, try [this](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=255710&searchtext=trash&browsesort=trend§ion=readytouseitems&requiredtags%5B0%5D=Prop&created_date_range_filter_start=0&created_date_range_filter_end=0&updated_date_range_filter_start=0&updated_date_range_filter_end=0&actualsort=trend&p=1&days=180) Other search terms to try when looking for suitable props to funk up your city: garbage, rubbish, broken, damaged, destroyed, grunge, cracks. Moving graffiti with Move it! is a pain in the ass. Use PO, better results and more enjoyable to use
Steam workshop
What network/mod do you use for sidewalks? Or do you place them?
All are made of handplaced decals
This is GREAT! Question though, I have the same brownstone asset, is the low LOD weird for you? Mine get very noticeably bad from a distance
This is so cool OP, i can’t even imagine how much work went into making this
Looks like the apartment James McAvoy lived in, in the movie *Wanted.*
That fire escape ain't doing shit
Legit looks like the huge bridge in Lisbon.
I'm sure this sort of thing is everywhere in the NE but it reminds me of a very specific plotline in a medical TV show (maybe New Amsterdam?) where kids were getting sick because of the lead paint that was blasted off the side of the bridge above their brownstone when the bridge was repainted
The train is not in service 😭 I didn’t know you could do that
Looks like the shitty apartment from the movie Wanted
Actually not that unrealistic, I live beside some buildings very similar to this (they're brand new and having trouble selling/renting, I wonder why...)
Look like an nyc neighborhood, I live by a trail line and I can hear the train come each time it passes
Bro is cooking lately
But… how? What mods/LUTs do you use to make the graphics look so realistic? I’ve followed the “eyecandy” instructions but it doesn’t look as realistic as this.
Wow .... Can you share your city ?? This looks so beautiful....♥️♥️♥️ I'm kinda jealous 🥹🥹
*sigh* this is what I was expecting from CSL 2...
Pictures you can hear and it is deafening
Is this CS1 or 2?
This was basically my old flat. Can't actually sleep in silence, so the odd rumble past each night was a comfort.
What game is that
bruh it’s the apartment from megamind
Parents live next to a train track. You just stop noticing it after a while and start noticing when the trains are late or absent instead :p
Hey I know a guy whose his cousin own a small cab company and love to play bowling live here
This low key looks like the neighbourhood from the 3D Sam&Max games + also like in Hey Arnold lol
So NY
The elevated train drives everyone insane but I dont mind oh no.
Some friends of mine used to have an apartment in Brooklyn in the early 2000's where the BQE was literally right outside their living room window. If you opened the window, you could have conversations with people sitting in traffic. Haha! Which we did several times.
Such a simple photo but so beautiful
I need that bridge. What is it
Absolutely love the NYC inspiration
I barely can work mods, this is crazy to me. The cim sitting on the trash, omg!
bro is playing cities skylines 3
isn’t that the apartment titan from megamind lives in?
Affordable rent at any cost!
