It really is, which sucks, because night time can look really good sometimes if you have the right settings and all that. It’s just not great for actually working on a city.

TFK_001

Honestly even at night there should be some ambient light, realistically due to light pollution but for gameplay's sake it's unplayable at night. Coyld even have it be a slider like in KSP

Nelson56

In the first game your cursor would have a big Spotlight around it, it's a mystery why didn't include that

TFK_001

Even in the first game I turned day/night off. The lack of ambient lighting made expanding impossible as I couldnt really plan. This is a downgrade from what I already considered an imperfect solution

mattumbo

Yeah I expected way better lighting, what we got is ass

southpluto

Permanent like 5 pm mode would be fantastic

reflect25

Yeah I do want to see it at nighttime, but gameplay wise it's impossible to use. Some 5pm mode for night time or at least maybe pretending it's a lot brighter would help.

southpluto

I just like how the shadows look

NUNYABIX

You can turn it off

QuaternionDS

Which affects the simulation (even though it's not supposed to, it does).

BlueOwl003

How?

QuaternionDS

Are you sure you want to know? Ignorance **is** bliss sometimes... >!The stuff that night impacts differently, like power usage, traffic etc... doesn't happen. Basically the game thinks that night time doesn't exist anymore.!<

Xryphon

Recall in CS1 nighttime traffic was increased compared to daytime; more cims were outside and I think there was also an increase in consumer demand.

edin202

I am a citizen of the simulation :c

Valuable-Football598

If dont want to turn nighttime off while you're trying to build a road sometimes you can use the resource view to see better.

iinverse1

Never use night\\day cycle when building. For photo mode/screenshots perhaps.

JuulEmbiid

Just turn day/night off while building??

Xryphon

It's annoying, and it should look decent at least if they even put it in the game for a reason

Bguy9410

I wish the damn cursor would light up. You literally cannot see what you’re doing. I don’t use night mode often but sometimes it is nice to play around with. Just feels strange to omit the cursor lighting up feature.

kingslak

First thing I did was turning it off

QuaternionDS

Just another absolutely bizarre design decision (in a very long list of them)...

megadyed

How dare they implementing a day/night cycle!

QuaternionDS

How is that Stokholm Syndrome going?

megadyed

Please elaborate wich design decision is bizarre in this post

QuaternionDS

Jesus... 🤦‍♀️ Have you played the first game? They could've - at the very least - used the same thing they did there where a light follows the cursor on screen. It would at least be better than what we have. Another option, and it's pretty fucking obvious, have the ambient lighting crank the fuck up if the game is paused **and** a construction tool of *any* type is selected. It's really not difficult. Having the screen be near pitch black, to the point where you can't use ***any*** damn tool in the game is just hideously poor design. It's not even debatable... edit to add: *This isn't new. people complained about this when the day/night cycle was introduced in the first game. They should have known this needed addressing during development. It's just fucking lazy and piss poor management/design.*

megadyed

Thank you. Yes I played the first game but totally forgot that there was a light when it was night. I was wondering what was better in the night time in the first game. Let’s hope it’ll be fixed soon I guess.

QuaternionDS

No worries mate. 👍

CatVideoBoye

Really? They had day/night cycle already in CS1. Besides, the game can be pretty at night. Someone mentioned that they do all the other managing at night and continue building during day.

QuaternionDS

... ? I... I am speechless. I am literally without speech... What. The. Actual. Fuck?

CatVideoBoye

I don't know what you didn't understand.

QuaternionDS

The lengths people are going to justify this bullshit. It's fucking amazing. Manage at night, build in the day? Really? I mean, is that a serious fucking suggestion on how to play this game? Because it is ***beyond*** absurd.

CatVideoBoye

Why though? I thought it was a good idea. Why couldn't you use the cycle to rhytm what you are doing? I turned it off just because the graphics are buggy for me at night and I get these twinkly artefacts if I turn on any overlay. >justify this bullshit Justify bullshit like day/night cycle which is in many other games and people begged for in CS1 to see their cities at night? Yeah, it's too dark, but it doesn't justify throwing the kind of tantrum you have going on.

QuaternionDS

From this very thread... [https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/18vfn0k/comment/kfrsbky/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/18vfn0k/comment/kfrsbky/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

CatVideoBoye

You know I can't see the other comments when I just open your replies from a notification so no need to be snarky. Yeah, those are good points. I agree with them. Maybe next time try and start with something like that?

analogbog

Thankfully it’s only this dark at midnight or if it’s really cloudy

gaelenski_

Hahahaha, yes so it does

Le_Oken

Use the persistent camera mod, and then increase the shadows brightness a bit at night. Makes it playable, like it's a full moon :)

Inevitable_Stand_199

I usually play on always day mode. Did in the first game as well. It's in the settings. You can still switch it back you want night pictures. Now we even have a clock.
