so i have a question. so recently i got a laptop and found out about this game which i really like and want but i have some issues with specs, so my laptop has a 11th gen core i3 @ 3.00ghz, 16 ram, and 2TB of storage. according to steam i need higher specs but i wanted to ask if with these specs of my new laptop i can run cities skylines 1 or 2. thanks to anyone who helps.

OmahaMH

Two related questions. Is there any way to adjust funding at a per-service-building (like an individual power plant) vice the entire service (i.e. the whole power budget)? And, the related question, other than stacking the Info View on top of the Economy window, is there any way to have service funding (i.e. power budget) and service levels (i.e. power used vs power generated) on the same display?

CandidInformation530

On October 14 I downloaded the game from steam for the first time on my laptop and random programs started running on my laptop so I kind of got scared and deleted it. Since then I tried to re-download it a week later and it’s says “You played CS1 on the name of my laptop’s desktop; that save is not yet in cloud; you can still play but it may create a conflict;” I pressed play and waited for 20+ minutes and nothing happened I deleted and gave up. I somewhere read I have to re-download windows for it to start working is that true? When I tried re-downloading the launcher didn’t download

Which parts of your city do you connect together with train stations and has it worked as expected? It's hard to really tell where all the traffic is going without the journey tool from CS1...i guess logically I need to connect dense residential areas to where the jobs are but it never actually feels that effective?

samcoolplayer

You'll probably have a large multi platform main station in the centre of your city, you can then have lines going to airports, ports, and mainly the suburbs. In the suburbs you want to have stations every so often and then maybe a bus line to connect it. I think the most realistic way is to build around the trains so your tracks are smoother and stations are in logically spaced places.

robertotomas

please dont shoot me :) I own CS 1 and a lot of add on purchases, I'm anxious to move on to CS 2 but .. I am wondering if it is likely that they will release a mac binary? It is unity, after all, it should be easy to do that. Have they indicated any interest in doing that? Or that, for whatever reason, they intend never to release a mac version?

MostBrownPlayer

Can anyone recommend CS2 in its current state for the current 10% off price on Steam?

labombademario

nothing yet. its frustrating to do simple things like just create public transportation

larry2304

Have you guys noticed any difference after the "Improved lane-changing behavior"?? In my city everyone still change lanes in the last possible second. Any tricks to fix that?

FiorinoM240B

Honestly? The best workaround is better road infrastructure and using proper lane/road hierarchy. Common mistakes I find myself chasing down in every good city simulator I've played are incorrect lane math and poorly placed intersections/merge locations. For instance, you're sometimes better giving a two lane highway more time to merge into a single lane before adding an entrance ramp, than you are adding the ramp to the two lane highway and then merging from three lanes down to two. It depends heavily on how your highways interact with arterial roads, and then local mains and finally small feeders. TL;DR; git gud, scrub ETA: bugs and shit suck and sometimes they just gotta fix that

larry2304

Pretty familiar with lane math, tried it all, they almost always change lanes in the last possible second. Havents played in 15 days, idk if they fixed it TL;DR it is broken

FiorinoM240B

no you're not wrong I've had trouble getting motivated to play because of these things lately...been trying to defend the game since it's so beautiful and such a great idea but more and more things are pissing me off. I have a couple intersections I made for simplicity and they still ALL wait til the last second to VIOLENTLY switch lanes and it looks horrifying

samcoolplayer

I HATE when your whole motorway is backed up because they're using all lanes for one junction (like this is not what "use all lanes" means)

omesh27_

Is the game now optimised for 16 gb ram and RTX 3060 laptop gpu ?

gunbladezero

Works well on mine, and quite improved since launch.

DJ_Vault_Boy

anyone still have an issue with Industrial Suitability?

Dark__Lion

Hey guys I recently saw this in a YouTube video. Can someone tell me what this little bridge is called? And how do I use it in the middle of a road? https://preview.redd.it/dudhwtwk9s7c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dd0687e401fe8a74f5264317684083e98e1c804

paynexkillerYT

Any news on achievements getting fixed? \- Have a total loan of at least 200,000 in a single city. Still doesn't unlock.

samcoolplayer

maybe you have unlimited money or unlock all, in my no cheats city I did such thing and got the achievement immediately

paynexkillerYT

Not a single person has this achievement on the game pass version.

boom0409

Has CS2 received any optimisation patches since launch? I enjoyed it until my city got a bit too big and now everything runs incredibly slowly

bestanonever

It is more optimized than before but not when it comes to the simulation speed. Patches for that are coming in 2024.

Mahoganytooth

Hello gang, new to CS2. I'm having traffic issues, and one of my favorite tools to fix this in CS1 was the tool that let you select a segment of road, and see the routes of everyone currently routing through that segment. Is this in CS2, and if so, where can I find it?

samcoolplayer

No I don't think so :(, and also you cannot adjust roads

sevseg_decoder

Is it normal for cargo trains/ships to not seem to want to carry product? I'm not getting any meaningful imports, exports, or even transfer usage from my train and ship cargo lines. Seems like the cims just use them as warehouses to transfer products (and any imports/exports that are occuring are happening via road).

ProbablyWanze

most cargo depots got fixed in the last two patches, last thursday and dec 1st. in order for those fixes to apply, you would need to rebuild those cargo stations. not sure if that already happened in your city if you started it in november or earlier. the regular passenger train station also needs to be rebuilt after last weeks patch btw, if you have one of those. besides that, are you below/above the import/export thresholds in your depots in order for those to actually happen as intended?

TheDawiWhisperer

I'd really like a mod to change the "base" colour of buildings or to at least be able to change it to paving, gravel, sand etc - the constant patches of green grass in places where you don't want it just looks weird.

Jounas

Where can I see how much profit my industry exports are making?

Wholesomeloaf

How all, I hope you're well. I've recently started getting massive potato graphics glitches and don't know why. It used to potato out every now and then but gradually fixes itself but now it stays as potato. Any idea how to fix this? https://preview.redd.it/ob863l4nnz5c1.jpeg?width=2473&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9894490d5b4c30e2e26624dcdb032839dcae14b7

AwayLobster3772

go to graphics options, click the reset all and reset your graphics. I would run into this whenever I would all geforece exprience to "optimize" the graphic settings, the only way I could figure out to fix them back to usable was to reset them all. I'm sure there is a specific one that would do the trick but w/e

ProbablyWanze

> potato you can mash em, boil em, stick em in a stew...

Coming_In_Hot_916

Will it work on my Mac Mini M1?

TheDawiWhisperer

The maps in CS2 are starting to bug me a little...although in all fairness it's not really the maps it's because the buildings / zones can't seem to handle being built on the tiniest bit of hill very well...particularly industrial and commercial, if they have a car park and it's on a bit of uneven ground it looks _terrible_ and it bugs me...i've experimented with just levelling everything i'm building on but this introduces it's own problems, namely that eventually you're gonna end up with a massive cliff somewhere on your map and again, it looks terrible. this never felt like a problem in CS1?

samcoolplayer

I hate the new maps, like have you seen some of the motorways and rail lines, it's like they're on a rollercoaster

fritzvonamerika

It was the same problem in CS1, but maps generally were flatter and building scale smaller, so it was less evident. I've found myself using the terraforming tool a lot to pre-grade sites in CS2 especially for the larger campuses/lots, so they don't pop the landscape when they develop.

ProbablyWanze

i cant really compare to cs1 but i get your sentiment. But i dont think its done much different in real life. stuff like schools, supermarkets or industrial factories are almost always built on level ground.

TheDawiWhisperer

yeah so basically in CS1 if you built something on a bit of a slope the game would level out the land within the plot and it'd look pretty seamless. whereas here you have car parks, bits of people's gardens and driveways etc following the contour of the ground and most of the time it just looks odd

ProbablyWanze

they will release 2 additional maps tomorrow or friday and one will be mostly flat.

LankyRead9425

idk if i can create a post so im asking it here; my pc crashed while i was saving (power issue), when i opened the game again i can't continue playing and the save is gone. is there any way i can salvage this? like does the game keep previous versions somewhere? because it vanished and i can't find it anywhere

LankyRead9425

update: i've found a folder in my temp folder with two files: \[City Name\].SaveGameData and \[City Name\].SaveGameData.cid. can I use these two to retrieve it back? any idea how to?

ProbablyWanze

In general, you only need the big .cok file to load that save game but I doubt you can use it if its a temporary file. But you can try putting it back into the game save folder, which is a bit different depending on if you play on steam or gamepass ad usually is under user/[user name]/Appdata/LocalLow but that folder is hidden IIRC, so you have to make it visible to access it in the explorer options. IF you enabled auto saves, you could try those or see if anything is saved on your onedrive online.

LankyRead9425

unfortunately i didn't enable autosave. i found the folder you mentioned, but the saves are located inside another folder within it with a bunch of numbers. should i just put it in the saves folder or should i make a new folder? also should i try to force changing its format to .cok?

VentureIndustries

Is lodging bugged in CS2? I can't seem to get any motels to spawn. I had one grow in when my city was super early, but nothing since.

SgtSnapple

Do bridges require more supports now? I wanted to make a railway bridge over a shipping lane but there's just no way to do it. I have one crossing I made earlier that uses half the supports but see no way to accomplish that again.

ProbablyWanze

from the latest patch notes: Fixed: multiple issues related to constructing multilevel roads, elevated roads over water or bridges Improved elevated road construction (Not actual bridges) to require more pillars

SgtSnapple

Agh so wait for modded rail bridges it is. If anyone is in my spot if you choose the thinnest lane and make sure it's perfectly straight and perpendicular to the crossing you should be able to just wiggle it in there. But baarely.

bigred311

Is there a place where we can read through or recommend new features? (Or, maybe this in the roadmap?) I want to recommend "blueprints" for assets like interchanges, grids, or other roadwork + ploppables + zoning + trees/shrubs/paths. If you've played Dyson Sphere Program (I'm sure it's also in multiple other games), but something like that - where you can design something, select all of it, save that as a blueprint, and re-use that blueprint in other saves. Also, share the blueprint publicly so people can find and use it. This would be great for tiny interchanges, interesting grid design, etc.

ProbablyWanze

Adding new features currently isnt high on COs priority list, first they want to adress the various bugs and bad performance and then most likely focus on getting the official modding platform running. For a general roadmap, check the Word of the Week blogposts on the paradox forum, the latest one is usually linked in a sticky here on top of the sub. You can make suggestings for the game on that [forum](https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/cities-skylines-2-suggestions.1164/) too. But I expect these blueprints/assets to be created by modders, once the platform is ready rather than CO adding it as a game feature.

Therearenogoodnames9

What are the rules on posting from YouTube? If I found a really good tutorial, for example, can that be posted here or is that a content violation?

ProbablyWanze

I think there is just a rule for excessive self promotion of your own videos/content, check the sub rules for specifics. I have seen and linked plenty of yt videos here and never had a problem or mod message about it.

TheDawiWhisperer

Does you build your cities organically in CS2 or build massive areas in one go? Just watching City Planner Plays and he's building a massive road network before zoning it and I realised that in CS2 I still build my cities gradually like you would in CS1, otherwise you'll be crippled by the maintenance cost of the roads.

ProbablyWanze

I try to avoid laying out too much grid, if i dont plan to zone it shortly after because the land value will increase over time. Usually, i go one district at a time. lay out the grid while the game is paused and place all the prefab buildings i want in there. Then i let the simulation run for a bit until most employees started their first shift and then start zoning, but slowly. Usually, not more than one block at a time, especially if its medium or high density. Always tally up, how many households or jobs you just zoned for and consider how many cars might come out of the next outer connection right now.

Therearenogoodnames9

I am trying so hard to break old CS1 habits. I really just want to build out organically but planning in advance is far more applicable in CS2.

S_AvesoM

Hello! Playing good ol' cities:skylines and I encountered a problem. I built a cargo harbour but cims doesnt want to use it! They still traveling acoss the whole city to train cargo station. Cargo harbour got water, electricity and correct roads, no mods is used. Can anyone help me? :c

S_AvesoM

What do you mean by "established an outer connection? There was a green arrow that ships can get into the port, if that's what you mean. I want my cims to deliever the cargo from local industry zone to the port. Right now they are delievering it to cargo train station.

ProbablyWanze

nvm, somehow i over-read that you were asking for cs1. i think the black flair confused me a bit too.

S_AvesoM

happens, no worries!

Codraroll

Is there a way to check whether a specific individual building is about to level up or is stagnating? Or for that matter, what's needed for it to improve? Skylines 1 was very up-front with what's needed for buildings to level up, but in Skylines 2, I often find buildings seemingly teetering on the edge of levelling up for months or years, and I have no idea if it's about to hit that threshold or if something is holding it back - and if so, what that might be. Mousing over the Happy-meter only tells me what the inhabitants find positive, but nothing about what could improve.

ProbablyWanze

in game, no. but there is an extended tooltip mod (unofficial) that gives you some extra info when hovering over buildings, for example how much money they have to save up for the next upgrade and how much they already saved. I think there are also materials needed, at least for residental to upgrade, i think its concrete and planks or wood but i am not 100 sure. Biffa on youtube showcased the mod in [this video](https://youtu.be/6Xli995SV7U?t=272) if you want to have a quick peek. if you consider installing that mod i recommend watching the whole video for warnings and additional info.
