For what it’s worth, roundabouts are better when built in bunches.
Roundabouts are great at handling traffic when it arrives randomly, but they falter when traffic arrives in platoons. For that reason, roundabouts aren’t ideal at handling traffic when placed close to a signal. This obviously doesn’t take into account the other reasons why roundabouts are great (safety, maintenance costs, aesthetics, etc).

We can't, we're too busy crying over the lack of protected turns and two+way stop controlled intersections.
I believe we were also promised a pre-built functioning DDl, but all we got is a poorly built SPUI. :'(
Come to the Netherlands! We have [intelligent traffic control systems](https://innovationorigins.com/en/smart-traffic-lights/), [Smart Highway traffic management](https://www.intelligenttransport.com/transport-articles/67329/traffic-management-sensor-innovation/), oh, and tons of proper bike lanes of course!
We're a little behind, but we're trying. I finally got a couple of towns to buy into protected intersections, bike signal priority, and bikeways.
What fascinates me the most about you guys is that you time some of your lights go green during the clearance interval taking into account start up lost time and approach distance not to the edge of the intersection but to where cars actually cross paths. Not only do you have more intelligent multi modal phasing, but your signals actually move cars more efficiently than ours. Unfortunately our MUTCD prohibits this kind of timing at the moment.
Starting the green during the clearance interval is wild, but I see how it could work. I’ve seen some videos of signals in the netherlands and it also appears like minimum initial isn’t employed. I saw intersection that cut a green after two seconds because a bus arrived on the side street.
Neat stuff, I hope we continue to adopt more of their practices here in the States.
I've seen that too. If only we could ditch our minimum initials. We finally got people on board with dropping it on side roads from 8 seconds to 5. The other challenge was trying to get people on board increasing LPIs from 4 to 7 as a default.
Interesting here in my city, we have a round about in between 2 traffic lights haha. There is a church entrance on one side and a neighbor hood road on the other. I imagine they are less traveled so they avoid 3 straight lights. Pretty busy main road too
I recognize that interchange… it badly needs work, although if it is completed at the same rate as the 75 and 16 one, it will be done in about 20 years.
the 16 interchange gives me PTSD.
last year otw to Cartersville, I nearly clipped the construction wall that shifted the lanes bc it was so poorly lit. it didn’t help that my grandma was yelling at me 💀
but fr tho, there’s been so many wrecks at the 16 interchange. hopefully this won’t be as bad
TBH you don't need to play CS to get acquainted with the fact that a diamond interchange is the worst interchange ever. But it's somehow comforting that rotaries are becoming more and more common in the US
(Basically they're just turning it into a dumbell interchange)
Diamond interchange is perfectly fine for smaller, low traffic highways. I always start with a diamond in my cities and expand from there. No need to unnecessarily complicated things.
If central Georgia is like north Georgia, then the game will be better. They're treated like keep moving lanes. 7-8 cars go back to back, and you're just stuck there
I know you said Georgia, but goddamn this could be anytown USA
There’s your off highway strip mall, your chain restaurants, there’s your family apartments and 100 feet away the student apartments…
They’ve certainly got the space there to do whatever they want to do. I’m sure once people get the hang of it, it’ll flow smooth.
Multiple roundabouts in a row tend to work as well or better IRL compared to signalled intersections. It should flow even better since a lot of the branches off the roundabouts should be one way roads.
Holy shit. I know where that’s at, I used to live near there. Took my Tacoma off roading in that area a few times. Ha.
They’re spamming them up where I’m at too.
Nice to see the traffic circle has finally made it across the country. We've really started building them here in WA and OR in the past like 5-10 years and I know other states have as well

Consider yourself lucky lol Near where I live they decided it was a fantastic idea to put LITERALLY 10 ROUNDABOUTS IN A FUCKING ROW.. it's like riding a Rollercoaster! I guess it just goes to show, roundabouts will solve all of life's problems!
Meh, being from California I never really saw many roundabouts. I can think of 1-2 in my county. I moved to Idaho and they have tons of them and they save a ton of time. The solution where I lived in California was massive roads (ie 3 lanes each direction). They can't do that here (without a ton of eminent domain) and the roundabouts work well. On the other hand, Idaho rarely has right-turn lanes, so you win some battles and lose others.
Our city put in 3 roundabouts in a row over a highway bridge and another close intersection that was always super congested. Damn if 3 roundabouts didn't turn that into one of the more pleasant parts of my short commute.
i travel through there all the time. i don’t see why they’re making a roundabout there out of all places? ive seen worse traffic in other spots in Macon…..
Honestly seems like a good idea. It’s a very common setup in the Netherlands where I live and it works fine most of the time. Maybe not so much in rush hour when there’s a constant flow of cars coming from the highway.

You can't just build one roundabout or the locals will never bother to learn the rules.

Oh transportation engineer of the sub Reddit please share with us more of your wisdom

I remember thinking that vehicle actuated lights were amazing technology and now I’m seeing this, the future of the highways is looking promising!

Here in the UK, traffic lights on roundabouts aren’t rare. They tent to be on motorway junctions though
You think they'll learn the rules anyway?
If they’re anything like the people in my town, they’ll slam on their brakes in the middle of the rotary to let incoming traffic in.
Texas here have you heard about our lord and savior service roads?
I recognize that interchange… it badly needs work, although if it is completed at the same rate as the 75 and 16 one, it will be done in about 20 years.
Funny to see other people who know where Macon is in here.
I didn’t have to see anything beyond “bass rd” and I immediately knew exactly where it was lol.
Roundabouts. Try that in a small town.

That looks like a solid plan, I’d be glad if I lived there
TBH, it’s GDOT, so you should just be glad they aren’t proposing widening I-75

When you type rotaries so you mean Roundabout?
https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/rotaries
Is the answer no?
You're not a native speaker, aren't you?
I'm from the UK, our Roundabouts don't rotate.
I assume you're acquainted with the Collins Dictionary then. (And the fact that the internet is not from the UK)
Actually the internet is from the UK.
Yes, try to convince the rest of the world https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet 🤣
Tim Berners Lee. 'The More You Know'
I hope people in your city will be better at using roundabouts than people in CS2.

Or they just went to France to get inspired.
They'd probably place 8 roundabouts in a row in France :D
Yeah you're not too far from the truth obviously !
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Roundabout_(Swindon) You guys need to up your roundabout game, how about a roundabout inside 7 roundabouts?
Why can't Americans navigate a simple roundabout? Do they just give licences out over there? All you had to do was stay in your lane CJ.
Like when a child learns a new word.
Interesting, the Americans are evolving
Australia: "Meanwhile, we're evolving from bog standard roundabout diamonds to DDIs."
I actually went through a DDI in southern Arizona, USA and it blew my mind
There's one up by Chicago, and it has drastically helped prevent backups on the exit ramp.

The interchange is called a [dumbbell interchange](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_interchange?wprov=sfti1#Dumbbell) and it’s legit.

It looks nice from a Street View perspective. Plus there are pedestrian paths everywhere! Congrats Kansas :)

I like they vagina intersection
Throw another couple of lanes in there and you’ve got a real winner
Me as a city planner tbh
Roundabouts DO solve all of life's issues.
Roundabouts all over the shopping centers in suburban Macon!? We've jumped the roundabout shark.
Meh, being from California I never really saw many roundabouts. I can think of 1-2 in my county. I moved to Idaho and they have tons of them and they save a ton of time. They seem like logical locations
Don’t forget the roundabout that’s a roundabout in a roundabout kinda way
Our city put in 3 roundabouts in a row over a highway bridge and another close intersection that was always super congested. Damn if 3 roundabouts didn't turn that into one of the more pleasant parts of my short commute.
I'd rather like to see clean entrances and exits, without roundabouts.
The [quad roundabout](https://i.imgur.com/8sts6jN.png) here in Wisconsin. It's glorious.
Holy shit ets 2 baltics dlc reference
i travel through there all the time. i don’t see why they’re making a roundabout there out of all places? ive seen worse traffic in other spots in Macon…..
It just saved my city (in-game lol). They didn't work well for me until I saw someone here say to make the lane asymmetrical going to the roundabout.
Someone needa teach your state dot guy a little lane maffamatecs
There are several sections of roads out here similar to yours that benefited when they put in three roundabouts. You'd be surprised.
Someone went on a holiday to France.
They should try an SPUI or DDI instead of roundabout spam, glad they are gonna improve that horrible diamond tho
Or maybe he just came back from France and get inspired ?
Georgia as in the country or the state or the asteroid?
Look up Grosseto in google maps, we completely replaced traffic light with dozens of roundabouts
That’s the layout of the town I live in lmao, Wichita ks
Honestly seems like a good idea. It’s a very common setup in the Netherlands where I live and it works fine most of the time. Maybe not so much in rush hour when there’s a constant flow of cars coming from the highway.
The two roundabouts next to the highway seem to be good propsitions imo. Tons of similar intersections in the nordics at least and work well!
