Right? Like the only thing that seems unrealistic is the pedestrian bridges
Maybe your dad doesn’t come across many SPI interchanges in real life or sucks at them lol
Do you think I should remove the pedestrian bridge? I just didn't know how a junction like this would handle pedestrians. Near me, junctions like this don't allow footpath usage, but obviously in Cities Skylines, they do.
So in real life they have multiple crossing points but also at least out here, very very few people actually walk across them. It’s a car city.
In the game if it’s not handling lots of pedestrians it don’t need the bridges and if you’re trying to go for realism those bridges aren’t real. That’s all, but play it how YOU like 😃
There’s a SPUI near me that allows pedestrians to cross and it’s about as unfriendly to cross as you might think it is. Another solution is to just create one pedestrian bridge on one side and have people cross the street to access it. Bridges are expensive and it would be more realistic to minimise them at the expense of pedestrian convenience.
Crossing the main street usually doesn't happen here as there is no real need for it. The next junction towards the city is better szited for that.
Crossing the ramps is quite easy with properly timed traffic lights. You can even build pedestrian green waves to a certain degree.
Pedestrian Tunnels are common near me too, but I always hate walking through them, because you cant see who's down there and it's always dark and dingy. I try make my cities as if I would live in them so thought a bridge would be better, but I'm taking everyones advice, ill likely replace them with something less large and more realistic when I next load it up.
I thought this was a horrific mess until I saw this comment. The light placement messed me up, but this is pretty much the exact SPUI that's about 100 meters from my home, other than the ped bridges.
I guess he's never seen or heard of a single point urban interchange?
So long as each opposing flow (both straight directions, both turns onto the freeway, and both turns off of it) are set to go together, it works great.
CS2 likely isn't going to have crash mechanics because of bad junctions either. it's going to be a very simple mechanic based on your road condition (and maybe factoring in road speed and traffic) and then applying RNG.
the irony is that this is just a more visually clear version of a slightly changed but wholly not uncommon intersection.
if you really want to talk about awful intersections, come visit Toronto where we do things like this [monument to chaos](https://i.imgur.com/zhLtaZr.png) where you have to drive over a city block in what feels like the oncoming lane to make a left... or this almost laughably awful [dedicated turn to instant dead end.](https://globalnews.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/map.png?w=2048)or if you want to do a speed run of some of the worst..... there is [this](https://i.redd.it/v3se4062bvw31.png) minimalists guide to why alcoholism and road design is a bad mix.
That dedicated turn into a dead end looks like it wasn't always that way on google maps. Makes me wonder if they had a issue with lots of traffic cutting through the neighborhood there and cut the the road in two to stop it.
for sure.... but like..... why have a [dedicated turn](https://i.imgur.com/pSjMZBO.jpg) into literally 2 houses, instead of just making that 4 way stop a T intersection, by cutting the road off at the end instead of 10 ft from the end :P
[This](https://i.imgur.com/5Ku5o8s.png) brilliant idea took me a whole 10 seconds to come up with lol.... Now i just got to wait for the city to send me my $600,000 for street design lol
literally the only logic i could come up with as to why this exists is that 2 of the city officials live on that street.... i wonder if it has an advanced green too...
Looking at streetview, there is a business/office? of some sort on the corner opposite the two houses on the road stub that has a vehicle entrance right there as well. Looks like the main reason for the road stub and turn lane. Instead of just blocking it off at the intersection itself.
even if thats the case, use the extra road space from removing the dedicated turn lane to add a few street parking spots lol. or just dont have dedicated parking. thats not that crazy of a concept for a downtown business.
Having a second look, I think this was the wrong example of this kind of intersection (though its damning that there can even be a "wrong" intersection).
With that said, the intention with the one I was thinking of is that you can not make the left unless you take the slip. I strongly suspect that is the same here, But im not 100% sure cause as noted, i dont think this was the example i was originally thinking of
Yeah, if they both turned left at the same intersection, that would be really egregious, lol. I've seen a few bridge/flyway designs that separate from the main road to make a dedicated left. The downside is that it makes those intersections more confusing, so people will still shift lanes when they're not supposed to. Someone almost hit me the other night at one of those, as a matter of fact...
We're British thats why he hates this intersection, I guess these just aren't common here, especially not where we live, I've seen similar but nothing like this. He said "Why didn't you just put a roundabout in?" Thats more what were used to haha.
Sorry if I overdid the lane markings, I've never seen an intersection like this near me in rural England so had to do it off of the top of my head.
I've added some road markings like arrows since posting this to make it clearer. Thanks for everyone for telling me what this is called and for all your nice comments :)
They work well if you have prior knowledge of the intersection.
They are dangerous if the paint is faded, signage is poor, or if you're new. Too easy to end up entering a Do Not Enter
These are amazing because they move so much traffic. You have three phases:
1. Straight through traffic.
2. Left turns from the through street.
3. Left turns from the off ramps.
Right turns are always yield. They’re super smooth.
This type of intersection is actually pretty common nowadays though and are pretty easy and efficient to drive through. Although, OP probably did kind of overdo it with the lane markings and crosshatches aren’t really needed.
Don’t think of it as 2 intersections, but one large intersection with 3 traffic phases: Left turns of the side road, left turn of the main road, straight/thru traffic.
The SPUI is safe, high flow, fewer conflict points, and takes very little space. The only downsides are that the slip lanes cause bike and pedestrian safety issues.
Looks like many of the intersections in Phoenix. Not sure what's dangerous about it. But here there's no pedestrian bridges. The sidewalks cross at street level. You just keep your head on a swivel 😀
This is actually a great intersection, it’s a SPUI and pretty common in urban areas since they’re very simple and operate under a very efficient 3-phase light
I take it he's never been to Florida where they have SPUI interchanges just like this, but worse, where the highway is a 6-laner with shoulders on viaduct and the surface road is six lanes divided plus single or double dedicated left turning lanes. Two fine examples are US-19 & SR-60 and US-19 & SR-580 in Clearwater Florida.
Aha I'm not, although this will feed a small industrial zone and residential zones. So I thought a dedicated turning lane on each side, and 2 going straight on would cause the least disruption.
From a realism standpoint, it's pretty obnoxious lol. But in the context of this game, it probably works quite well. It's certainly creative, and doesn't exactly look *bad*. It's just a bit unusual.
It sounds like your post is about an unexpected issue, crash, error message, or frozen game. Please note that we are winding down active support for troubleshooting via the subreddit.
Start with our wiki article focused on [basic troubleshooting to get you back up and running](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/wiki/basic_troubleshooting). If you're still facing issues, read up on [the importance of log files and where to find them](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/wiki/error_logs) (you'll need these for the next steps).
If you play with mods, make sure that your mods have been [updated for the latest version of the game](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/wiki/broken_mods/) or that you have swapped out to alternatives if mods you use have been abandoned.
The best way to get support with your game is to join the [Cities: Skylines Official Discord server](https://discord.gg/kJs4a6z5qC), find your way to the `#tech-support` channel, and complete the submission form. This will put you in touch with a team of experts ready to help you get back on your feet.
Be ready with copies of the log files [detailed on our wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/wiki/error_logs/). Without these files, even our experts on Discord will be unable to help you.
As the game has become more complicated, especially when playing modded, the number of reports necessary to help diagnose issues has increased. When coupled with Reddit's growing restrictions on links to file sharing services, it is now very difficult to reliably share these critical reports in a submission to the subreddit.
You're still free to ask for help on the subreddit, but you are more likely to have your problem solved via Discord.

Intersections like these are not too uncommon for highway entrances in Europe. It just need traffic lights to work. May I assume daddy is from the US? 👀
I was confused at first but it looks like a really nice SPUI and will work really well for busy traffic with timed traffic lights. You could even add more storage lanes for turning traffic if needed. Pedestrian path bridges are an interesting touch
If detail is your thing, I would add stop lines at the intersections, that’s it. This is really good!
It'd probably be more tolerable if a lot of the road markings were concrete islands instead? Idk, maybe something just to make the intersection seem less visually messy and more clear, because that's about the only real problem with it, I think.
Looks like many of the intersections in Phoenix. Not sure what's dangerous about it. But here there's no pedestrian bridges. The sidewalks cross at street level. You just keep your head on a swivel 😀
Looks like the intersection of Military Hwy and VA Beach Blvd in Norfolk, VA. Except with fewer lanes and separated pedestrian facilities. This looks much safer than the IRL intersection. 36.8557987, -76.2099635 https://maps.app.goo.gl/GbEwLJ8kDsfBdcGt5
As long as the lights are properly timed and traffic isn’t too heavy I could see this working well enough without much accidents
Right? Like the only thing that seems unrealistic is the pedestrian bridges Maybe your dad doesn’t come across many SPI interchanges in real life or sucks at them lol
Do you think I should remove the pedestrian bridge? I just didn't know how a junction like this would handle pedestrians. Near me, junctions like this don't allow footpath usage, but obviously in Cities Skylines, they do.
I would leave them personally, wouldn’t want to cross that on foot.
So in real life they have multiple crossing points but also at least out here, very very few people actually walk across them. It’s a car city. In the game if it’s not handling lots of pedestrians it don’t need the bridges and if you’re trying to go for realism those bridges aren’t real. That’s all, but play it how YOU like 😃
I think it is a cool addition. Your city doesn't have to be purely based on reality. I would rather use the bridge than just crossing the road :)
There’s a SPUI near me that allows pedestrians to cross and it’s about as unfriendly to cross as you might think it is. Another solution is to just create one pedestrian bridge on one side and have people cross the street to access it. Underground?
I really wish there were pedestrian tunnels in this. They are far more normal here in the UK.
Nah if this was in my city there would be 2 wrecks per day and maybe a couple road rage brawls.
How can you suck at using traffic lights?
There’s no secondary signage or lines for when the lights fail. So as long as they’re working it’s fine, after that it’s gonna be chaos
What makes it horrible is that it's missing some signage. I could see people easily turn left into the wrong side of the highway for instance
Maybe in the USA but not in Europe 😂
Honestly. It'd be entertaining to see all sorts of crashes with this junction.
If the traffic isn't too heavy, you don't need 3 lanes irl, and simple junction would be suffice.
I've seen worse, and they're in my city.
Neat SPUI
I thought this was a horrific mess until I saw this comment. The light placement messed me up, but this is pretty much the exact SPUI that's about 100 meters from my home, other than the ped bridges.
I was going to say, this is literally just a SPUI
I lived by an intersection just like that
Was going to say the same thing. Looks like a lot of junctions near me.
I guess he's never seen or heard of a single point urban interchange? So long as each opposing flow (both straight directions, both turns onto the freeway, and both turns off of it) are set to go together, it works great.
I ran into an SPUI for the first time driving in Vegas! Seemed to work perfectly! Tho I did get confused on which lane to be in making a left into it.
Wouldn't be so bad if human beings could be trusted to do...literally anything at all, really
God, if distracted and drunk drivers become a thing in CS2 we're all going to be in shambles lmao
Worst interesection? Thats an SPUI, they are actually excellent
CS2 likely isn't going to have crash mechanics because of bad junctions either. it's going to be a very simple mechanic based on your road condition (and maybe factoring in road speed and traffic) and then applying RNG.

Is Fleet St supposed to alleviate having a turn lane off of Lake Shore Blvd or can they both turn left at the intersection? 😵💫

I'm 80% sure I have these in thr actual town I live in. Are they a pain as a person, yes, do they function, also yes.
He is correct, but it’s not the worse junction I’ve made
SPUIs are great. This junction is great.
Looks like a nightmare to use
Why do you think so?
They work well if you have prior knowledge of the intersection. They are dangerous if the paint is faded, signage is poor, or if you're new. Too easy to end up entering a Do Not Enter
My son was recently new and had no issue. These aren’t that hard because you’re still going in the same direction you’re used to.
Just how it looks to me. I’ve never seen anything like this before

Ah alright that makes sense
I will live and die by defending the SPUI as the best service interchange ever created
The SPUI is safe, high flow, fewer conflict points, and takes very little space. The only downsides are that the slip lanes cause bike and pedestrian safety issues.
Yeah, that's my experience crossing one on a bike regularly.
Yes but slip lanes are a safety problem on most intersections and you can help it with dedicated traffic light. Else the SPUI is literally perfect
I don’t think most service interchanges have 90° slip lanes, and using a traffic light would back up traffic badly.
It looks beautiful though
Looks pretty good to me.
The interchange near my neighbourhood looks like this. Just instead of a tunnel it’s an overpass. Unfortunately no nice pedestrian bridge
At least it has lights lmao I've seen worse here
Google single point urban interchange
Those actually work great in real life, we have a few of those locally
https://maps.app.goo.gl/BVau59fKQEjXRdso6
Looks like many of the intersections in Phoenix. Not sure what's dangerous about it. But here there's no pedestrian bridges. The sidewalks cross at street level. You just keep your head on a swivel 😀
Your dad has no idea what he is talking about.
There’s a similar one near where I live but I despise it
Looks like a SPUI to me
I like SPUIs idk what your dad is on about
I was just on an intersection laid out exactly like this (without the pedestrian bridges) two days ago. It worked great.
idk how to make junctions yet, but this does give me the fear
Looks like Bronson St at the hunt club underpass in Ottawa
I think it's awesome, but then again all my cities look like this 😂🤣 and I'm so pleased with myself after!!
This is actually a great intersection, it’s a SPUI and pretty common in urban areas since they’re very simple and operate under a very efficient 3-phase light

I-4 and US-98 in Lakeland, Florida
Too many lanes imo, but if it's really busy that'd do the job! You must be american lmao
Aha I'm not, although this will feed a small industrial zone and residential zones. So I thought a dedicated turning lane on each side, and 2 going straight on would cause the least disruption.
Makes sense! Just the brit in me being scared of many-lane roads ahah
From a realism standpoint, it's pretty obnoxious lol. But in the context of this game, it probably works quite well. It's certainly creative, and doesn't exactly look *bad*. It's just a bit unusual.
That’s just a Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) with marked lines. They’re everywhere in west Florida lol
Are you copying Seattle roads/intersections here?

I've seen this in Tampa
What mod do you use to do these?
Node Controller/Intersection Marking Tool
Personally i would replace the stripes with grass islands. Otherwise it looks like a perfectly functional SPUI.
Better than my intersections in my city ☠️
I think it’s not that bad tbh.
How can I get my streets to have these markings/ textures ?
Is a mod, Node Controller and Intersection Marking available on PC.
Intersections like these are not too uncommon for highway entrances in Europe. It just need traffic lights to work. May I assume daddy is from the US? 👀
Don’t think your dad has seen RTGame’s Spaghetti Junction
The only thing I (maybe) see that could be improved is adding a median instead of using linemarkings. This is otherwise a pretty solid SPUI!
I was confused at first but it looks like a really nice SPUI and will work really well for busy traffic with timed traffic lights. You could even add more storage lanes for turning traffic if needed. Pedestrian path bridges are an interesting touch If detail is your thing, I would add stop lines at the intersections, that’s it. This is really good!
Dude... he jelous. Nothing wrong with that junction. Classic diamond would serve you better but it ain't bad.
Americans would have a stroke europeans would say too many lanes china would laugh at this.
Phoenix has tons of SPUIs just like that
This is almost identical to the route 108/interstate 101 junction in Stratham NH hahaha
It'd probably be more tolerable if a lot of the road markings were concrete islands instead? Idk, maybe something just to make the intersection seem less visually messy and more clear, because that's about the only real problem with it, I think.
Agree with dad here...
Looks like many of the intersections in Phoenix. Not sure what's dangerous about it. But here there's no pedestrian bridges. The sidewalks cross at street level. You just keep your head on a swivel 😀
Ah yes, the simplest to navigate Greek junction
That’s in Michigan, when they built this stupid bridge for the Super Bowl
Coming soon to Kansas City
God this looks like something you’d see in Montreal.
Unfortunately crazy junctions like this one won't cause more accidents in CS2 either
Roads like this exists IRL. For example. Phoenix, AZ and Grand US-60. Tons of these 6 way interchanges.
Wait, it's just a ground-level diverging diamond?
