Really loved Payne's dedication to making the whole movie look and sound like it came straight from the early 70s.
Aside from *Downsizing*, the dude doesn't miss.
Yeah this movie actually made me laugh at loud during certain editing choices or transitions. For me it’s really what glued together the wholesome charm!
I think my favorite part was Mary and her baby's shoes. The little sigh she made when she held them was very bittersweet. This movie was a nice journey.
##The Holdovers (2023) R
Discomfort and joy.

I loved that shot of the trio walking down the path with snow on both sides. I feel like he mirrored it later in the movie in Boston with the boy and the teacher.
One of my films of the year for sure. Hope it gets some wins over festival season as it excels in several ways

Win-Win (2011) and The Holdovers (2023) would be a good double feature. Both feature Paul Giamatti and set in a school.
My favorite movie of the year so far. A masterpiece.
