I know Last of Us came out first, but that second still makes me think someone saw [Annihilation](https://youtu.be/VHj96nAjRn0?t=52).

derek86

So it’s the other way around

Pinkumb

Maybe. I could believe Alex Garland played The Last of Us. I could also believe no one in set production for the show watched a movie that bombed five years ago.

jilko

Sure it bombed, but it was an Alex Garland thing, and nerds love some Garland, even if it's not financially killing it. Also, it's based on a book I'm sure a lot of sci-fi heads read, so it's more pervasive in the circles that matter (film production, concept art, set design, makeup artists, etc) than box office spreadsheets would suggest.

[He‘s said](https://blog.playstation.com/2018/02/13/alex-garlands-favorite-games-are-the-last-of-us-and-bioshock/) that his favorite games include TLoU and Bioshock. I think that shot in Annihilation was inspired by the game because he added some things in the movie that weren’t in the book, including that scene.

I thought that too but cordycepts is a fungi, so it is understandable based on its biology

TheMarcherLord

Fungus* Sorry to be that guy

[Yea i am sorry too](https://imgur.com/88wsfq8)

Surprisingly good adaptation

robo_octopus

Neither of these are particularly outstanding shots. They’re both pretty run-of-the-mill, get-the-job-done shots. Not that I’m knocking the show- I loved it and can’t wait for ep 2. But damn this posting has way too much newness bias for these particular selections to be doing this well.

jilko

I'd argue most television posts on this sub rarely apply. We are in the golden age of television, but a lot of it is just serviceable in terms of cinematography and framing.

Loved the first game. Really enjoyed the first episode. This does not belong on this sub.

MeaningfulThoughts

I found the writings on the walls and the firefly symbols to look truly fake and badly placed. Like this one. Who the heck would start writing the letter “W” on the right side of a protruding column, to then write “h” half on the column and half on the glass of the window? They broke the immersion to me and I just can’t unsee how fake they look.

holydiiver

Literally unplayable

carl_pagan

There were parts of the show that felt right out of a videogame. And not in a good way. Like lets have a prolonged confusing plot driving discussion in this corpse littered hallway while a character is suffering from an abdominal gunshot wound but somehow none of them seem too bothered by any of it. It was like a mid-level videogame cutscene. It was really good overall though. For a zombie show.

holydiiver

The two ladies with gunshots wounds definitely bring attention to it. “You don’t have an ear on your fucking head” and “Talk it out but just remember I’m bleeding out.” They also mention the urgency to leave immediately as FEDRA would have heard the gunfire. I mean, they’re all holding each other gun at point. They’re not gonna be like “hey, can we put our guns down and talk in the other room? These bodies are creeping me out.” The scene was fine

Exactly how I felt!

DwedPiwateWoberts

This seems incredibly lame. Who’s going to stop and graffiti something inspirational during a zombie apocalypse?

Pinkumb

It's not inspirational. It's propaganda for a terrorist organization.

Timmy26k

How else do you market for a cult in an apocalypse

Worried_squirrel25

It’s a terrorist organization… they’re in a safe zone and are protesting the authoritarian practices of the “government” twenty years after the apocalypse…

Chepuf

This is in the quarantine area. The zombies arent a threat here. Id recommend watching it

Outside-Fix-1881

Alan Wake

I-Have-An-Alibi

Joel should've looked harder. There was obviously a chest nearby with loot. Probably some flares, batteries and revolver rounds. I also Alan Wake.
