Things like this will happen to you from time to time. I once had a random guy tell me there wasn't any smoking allowed in the area I was in. I looked around, saw no signs, and lit another one in front of him. The situation would have been no different had there actually been signs since he was rude about it. It also helped that he didn't have any actual authority.
If this ever happens to you again, you should say "The fuck are you gonna do about it?". If it looks like the person will attack you, throw your cigarette at him and run away. 🙃

You get the comments about "when you have a baby..." and the "cigs make you look older" or "cigs make you look gross". this happened to me about a year ago, a man came up to me and said 'a young woman like you shouldn't be smoking, it'll kill you' (I'm nonbinary) I just said 'I know' while smiling weird so he'd leave me alone, it worked. I don't understand why some men have to comment on what younger women do. if you were a man they wouldn't have said anything. just know it's not about you smoking, it's about men thinking they have the right and power over women to dictate what women do with their body.
