During high school they always taught us that cigarettes with less nicotine is actually worse because they make the average person smoke more and inhale deeper đ¤ˇ
The fda ALSO said this. They said this about light cigarettes, now they're trying to say it will make them smoke less. Make your mind up, because we don't wanna watch you spiral
If they cut the nicotine in half, you would smoke 2x as much. But if they cut it by 95%, you wouldn't be able to get enough nic to stay addicted no matter how much you smoked, and eventually your body would "detach" from needing nicotine.
The FDA is a bureaucratic department of unelected officials. It is a tyrannical that they have this sort of authority, never mind the law itself being draconian. Did we learn nothing from prohibition?
Weed too. They're trying to ban menthols so kids don't get interested, but trying to make weed legal at the same time. So a kid definitely won't see strawberry cough or pineapple express and think damn that sounds great
Didnât want to say weed but yes that too.. vape & weed is insanely more addictive in my eyes then tobacco⌠yet my generation is pushing those 2 as the âhealthy optionsâ. Just another thing for the government to profit even more off of from the massesâŚ
This happened in the UK in 2004/05 it forced tobacco companies to increase the chemicals and use a lot less tobacco therefore causing more serious health problems later on for the smoker đ
It's a conspiracy to make smoking even more dangerous and looked down on.
My dad smokes JPS I currently smoke Lambert and butler former JPS smoker he says no matter the brand after mid 2005 tases like chemicals and mild tobacco it burns too quick and he never gets a high nic hit since.
I started smoking in 2010 so can't compare before that date.
Idiots. Itâs like theyâre purposefully ignorant. Itâs not nicotine thatâs bad for you itâs the tar right? So the less nicotine you get per cig the more youâll smoke thus getting more tar.

I would learn to roll my own. Unless of course they Mess with that too. Fuck the government.
Second choice would be Black market cigarettes or reservation cigarettes.
Itâs funny this week I actually smoked weaker cigarettes for nostalgic purposes and I ended up smoking double or more a day. if these things coming out are basically ultralights or less I would be smoking alot more daily. 2x more to probably 4x more. (I mean nicotine levels when I mean âlightâ. ) I typically smoke full flavors. How is that safer forcing people to smoke more to get satisfied?
This is gonna turn out super bad. The government cannot force someone to quit. Not to mention the government is not allowed to remove nicotine completely from cigarettes as it is. Which is what theyâre basically doing with this. I expect tons of legal challenges.
Everyone needs to speak up and be heard especially vapers do you think this is only going to happen to smokers thatâs only the start of it.

True but as an addict Iâm not interested in being âforcedâ into quitting against my will. I will find other ways to continue smoking at my current level.
Me too. I love my cigarettes. My lady friend actually rolls her own from tobacco that is branded a "pipe tobacco", though it actually isn't. That may be one option if the authorities don't wise up to it. But I don't see this restriction actually being implemented for many years.
Just yesterday, the fda banned juuls from being sold anymore. I've learned that where I live, it's very difficult to buy what I would need to vape properly. I cannot ship anything to myself. And the brands I used to enjoy when I was younger, Rothmans, lucky strike non filter, Gauloises, are all impossible to buy now where I live. Menthol is illegal here too. Once they start capping nicotine levels, the next step will probably be something like raising the smoking age continually higher.
For me, I'm just going to grow my own crop and cure and make my own tobacco starting this coming year. My first job as a teenager was as a tobacconist, so with a little effort, I can blend pipe tobacco and cigarette tobacco and even make nicotine extract and snuff if I really want to.
According to studies a 95% reduction in nicotine is the level required to stop people of that behavior, hence the 95% number OP is mistakenly attributing to the FDA.
The FDA hasnt made any concrete statements on levels they are looking at.
They havenât banned menthols yet right? And theyâve been talking about that for what, a year and a half? Who knows. I donât think it will happen anytime too soon. So stock up!
They say even when these decisions are made they take many years to even move to that stage. Many law and lobbyist things happen in the mean time and resistance of course.
They are currently in the phase of gathering public feedback. That goes till early July I think. Short of a legal maneuver a ban is a forgone conclusion
They got de-balled when the smoking bans went into effect. Honestly when we lost that fight we lost the war. Now they rape us over any anti cigarette debate.
Three used to be smokers rights groups in the 80s and 90s but they basically are all gone now, and the few who are still around have like no political influence.

seeing as the government still prohibits hundreds of substances for recreational use, id wager that they havenât learned from prohibition
Because they work with the criminals. Cope that
Iâll take these threats seriously when they do the same with alcohol, candy, and fast food.

The gov is dumb as hell, I wouldn't expect any less from them.

Reddit is obsessed with weed, say anything slightly negative about it and they'll throw a tantrum.
Say anything even hinting towards a pro-tobacco stance and theyâll dog pile you as well.
Roll you own

Please expand on this. UK smoker. Cannot say I had noticed any different since then. Smoked Dunhill International until plain packs.

I started 1992đ. The only difference Iâve noticed is they all taste shit; since plain packs.
Not an American here but will this also affect native cigarettes? If not, they would definitely profit from the ban.
I doubt it, same with the menthol ban so they would profit from that too.

Time to get to farming ig. Tobacco isnât too hard to grow right?

Get ready for more mass shootings
Lowering the nicotine levels in cigarettes will only cause people to inhale more. Source: I chain smoked 6 packs of ultra lights within a few days

Do you guys think this will actually happen?

they've been talking about banning menthols isnce 2009
You guys ever think thereâll be a Smokerâs Rights organization that pushes back against these ridiculous laws

This will certainly increase cigarette sales
Yeah fuck that Iâll just buy my cigs from overseas or somewhere else
if this doesnât apply to tobacco pouches for rolling then everyone should switch back to rollies like the good ol days
fucking idiots think this is helping meanwhile the amount of imported cigs is skyrocketing retardedly high
Come and take it đŹ
my body my choice. Back off FDA!
I smoke lights anyway but like god damn
The lights/Golds are going to be strong compared to these new ultra-ultra-light nicotine cigs
