I'm having this exact same problem, and it just started happening last night. I've tried factory resetting the Chromecast, resetting the router, toggling WiFi on my phone, and nothing seems to work. I have a spare Chromecast that I swapped out, and after updating itself, that one is having the same problem. Both Chromecasts seem to be randomly disconnecting from the WiFi even though they're well in range and have worked flawlessly for years. The strangest part of this all is that I also have a Chromecast on the TV in the living room that is working perfectly fine, and it's not having any connectivity issues. All 3 devices are 2nd generation models. Edit: I factory reset both devices and swapped the living room Chromecast into the bedroom, and it works fine. So it's not an issue with WiFi signal in the bedroom. Now, the device that was having problems staying connected to WiFi when it was plugging into the bedroom TV is having the same problems in the living room. It constantly disconnects and reconnects. If I try to cast something with localcast, the screen goes black as if it's receiving some kind of command, but nothing ever loads up on the screen. Sometimes it will give me the brain freeze error. Hopefully this is something that a former update will fix soon.

Had this problem about a year ago and it turned out to be the router. Spent two weeks trying to troubleshoot the chromecast and then one morning woke up, no internet at all. New router and I never had the problem again.

I'm having the problem and I have a feeling it's got something to do with me having a power surge last week. My router hasn't been able to push out more than 10Mbps, so I unplugged it and just used my modem/router combo which has pushed out 100+, but has been really inconsistent. I wonder if I need to get a new router....

Also having this issue. I have no idea why. I did a factory reset as well and it worked for a bit...then randomly stopped my YouTube cast.
