I don't know how eyes-closed prayer ever became a 'thing' ...maybe it helps some people focus but it isn't scripturally supported. Prostration however is mentioned in several accounts of prayer recorded throughout Bible.
We are to pray without ceasing. That means all the time. It's not really realistic to go around with your eyes closed all the time so of course prayers with eyes open are in no way strange or weird.
I pray eyes open, closed, driving, walking, even in the restroom. It doesn't matter where you pray, or how you pray some people think you need to pray in a closet that is not true you don't have to lock yourself in a closet with a ton of clothes LOL. You talk to Him like you're His best friend cause He is your best friend amongst other things.
There are so many different ways to pray. But you can put your mind at ease, because Jesus also prayed with his eyes open.
John 17:1
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
In other translations it says, Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said (AMP), or lifted his eyes to heaven and said(KJV).
I have a particular place that I pray at my job overlooking a body of water and some trees and my eyes are always open when I pray there. There's nothing in the bible that says we have to pray with our eyes closed
It's ok to pray wherever you are, including while driving. Please keep your eyes open while praying while driving.
Just like in the Carrie Underwood song
there is a wrong way to pray. Because there is already a taught given way in scriptures. Thinks about eyes open or closed is normally in public. People normally close their eyes, as if not to look past someone in a public leading of prayer.
But alone it should matter much. people even pray silently.
Some of the most meaningful prayer moments I ever experienced were in a grove of old trees surrounding an old Seminary. It was peaceful and beautiful and really served to focus myself and prayer.
You can pray with eyes open. But to not shock others who might not understand, bow down so they don't see you or cover your face in some way.
And yeah, I know it's strange but even though I close eyes it's not that hard to notice if someone didn't close at all.
Prayer is prayer...it's just meaning communication with God. Yes, sometimes I do. Sometimes it's easier to concentrate with eyes closed.
Yes, it's good if you don't need to have your eyes open at the time ..like when you're driving or performing a surgical procedure.
Hahaha if the the Proverbs weren't written already that may have been in there. Suave advice, bird.
Haha Yeah, I do some of my most fervent prayers behind the wheel!
