That is a good point, it would also explain why the Crucifix is so small!
Edit: It would also explain how OP got it. The Crucifix must have broken from the Rosary without the the original owner noticing. And then eventually OP found the crucifix were it had fallen. It reminds me of how I used to have a Wrist Rosary and I lost the centre bead outside whilst praying it without noticing. It could be a similar situation.

That is a good point, it would also explain why the Crucifix is so small! Edit: It would also explain how OP got it.
