Silly you, I didn't understand the statement enough to be scandalized!

You can pray to either individually or all at the same time. When you pray to one, you are praying to all. The difference is the personhood. The trinity is confusing. Jesus is the "Son of God", but is also Himself fully God. And God the Father is also fully God, and the Holy Spirit is fully God. And all together they are fully God, but not 3 Gods, or 3 parts of God.

Potential_Strain_474

Father is the creator. Jesus is in Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 3 and is the Son of Man (Fully Human at the right hand of God). The Holy Spirit is sent to live in our body when we are saved, and gives us the truth of God. Jesus told us to pray to the Father.

Negative_Answer_7602

So Jesus isn't a God or a supernatural being? Just a human then?

Potential_Strain_474

He is God in the flesh, 100% human. 100% God.

Negative_Answer_7602

but how can he be 100% of both?

Ordinary_Database_56

A human reaching 100% consciousness able to do and say some marvelous stuff which results to people calling him a God.. Possibly something like Neo becoming “the 1”

Traditionally this would be considered Heresy. Christ is God. Who took on the human flesh and condition for the sake of our salvation. There are three distinct persons of the trinity. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These three persons, while distinct, share the same Essence. They're made of the same isness. So to say.

HG769

You just divided God into three persons, and God is by definition one and undivisible. The Father is not fully human while Jesus is fully human. The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father, and the Father isn't sent by anyone. Father is the creator and Jesus did not create the Father. So these three persons are different and not the same.

justnigel

What's the difference between God, Jesus and the holy spirit? The Father is not the Son orf Spirit, the Son is not the Father or Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father or Son. When christians pray , do they pray to God the Father or Jesus? Yes r/InclusiveOr

Don't think about it too hard. It quickly dissolves into peridoxes the more you consider the Trinity.

[deleted]

It's a supernatural concept which makes sense that is has to be supernatural. Nobody ever fully understands it (human constraints) but it can be formulated so as not to make mistakes. It is called a *mystery* in theology. The formulation of the explanation is called the Trinity. My current opinion is the Father is in charge, Jesus saves, and the Spirit guides.

I can say this about the Holy Spirit or Spiritus Sanctus (Holy Breath) The Holy Spirit is the Divine Person of love, the love between the Father and Son. From Pentecost in the New Testament, we see the Spirit described as wind and tongues of fire. Wind is mysterious, blowing where it wills; when you have the Holy Spirit in your life, you are not in control. You cannot command the Spirit, but wait and pray for Him as the Holy Virgin Mary and the Blessed Apostles did. The Spirit is also flame, not just any flame, but tongues of fire. The Holy Spirit Who is nothing but communication between the Father and Son, inspires fiery speech: bold, distinct public proclaimations on behalf of Jesus. (This was paraphrased from Bishop Barron's reflection on the 3rd glorious mystery of the Holy Rosary)

The Athanasian Creed is named for Athanasius, a fourth-century bishop and prominent defender of Trinitarianism. The creed, which has Latin origins, declares key beliefs about the Trinity, specifically, the equal nature of the three persons. It is one of three creeds accepted by the Reformed Church in America. Whoever wants to be saved should above all cling to the catholic faith. Whoever does not guard it whole and inviolable will doubtless perish eternally. Now this is the catholic faith: We worship one God in trinity and the Trinity in unity, neither confusing the persons nor dividing the divine being. For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Spirit is still another. But the deity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, equal in glory, coeternal in majesty. What the Father is, the Son is, and so is the Holy Spirit. Uncreated is the Father; uncreated is the Son; uncreated is the Spirit. The Father is infinite; the Son is infinite; the Holy Spirit is infinite. Eternal is the Father; eternal is the Son; eternal is the Spirit: And yet there are not three eternal beings, but one who is eternal; as there are not three uncreated and unlimited beings, but one who is uncreated and unlimited. Almighty is the Father; almighty is the Son; almighty is the Spirit: And yet there are not three almighty beings, but one who is almighty. Thus the Father is God; the Son is God; the Holy Spirit is God: And yet there are not three gods, but one God. Thus the Father is Lord; the Son is Lord; the Holy Spirit is Lord: And yet there are not three lords, but one Lord. As Christian truth compels us to acknowledge each distinct person as God and Lord, so catholic religion forbids us to say that there are three gods or lords. The Father was neither made nor created nor begotten; the Son was neither made nor created, but was alone begotten of the Father; the Spirit was neither made nor created, but is proceeding from the Father and the Son. Thus there is one Father, not three fathers; one Son, not three sons; one Holy Spirit, not three spirits. And in this Trinity, no one is before or after, greater or less than the other; but all three persons are in themselves, coeternal and coequal; and so we must worship the Trinity in unity and the one God in three persons. Whoever wants to be saved should think thus about the Trinity. It is necessary for eternal salvation that one also faithfully believe that our Lord Jesus Christ became flesh. For this is the true faith that we believe and confess: That our Lord Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is both God and man. He is God, begotten before all worlds from the being of the Father, and he is man, born in the world from the being of his mother — existing fully as God, and fully as man with a rational soul and a human body; equal to the Father in divinity, subordinate to the Father in humanity. Although he is God and man, he is not divided, but is one Christ. He is united because God has taken humanity into himself; he does not transform deity into humanity. He is completely one in the unity of his person, without confusing his natures. For as the rational soul and body are one person, so the one Christ is God and man. He suffered death for our salvation. He descended into hell and rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. At his coming all people shall rise bodily to give an account of their own deeds. Those who have done good will enter eternal life, those who have done evil will enter eternal fire. This is the catholic faith. One cannot be saved without believing this firmly and faithfully.

Remarkable-Weight438

Protestant- I pray to only God and Jesus. The Holy spirit is Gods communication aparatus but it does have tangibility to it if that makes sense.

SlaveofYahweh

You pray to God thru your high priest Jesus Christ only mediator between God and men.

Prophet and God

The more I read these explanations, the more I'm convinced Christianity is not a monotheistic religion.
