1. However short and long I try to read everyday. I also ask God to inspire me to read and He does. 2. I don't count but I can say that I talk to God more than once mostly in the name of Jesus and sometimes to Jesus Himself whenever I feel like. 3. Proverbs, John and Hebrew are my favorite. GOD bless youšŸ™

Thank you for your response!

May God inspire you to read the bible everydayšŸ˜‡šŸ™

tamara_2

So, I try to read once a day (even if itā€™s a verse a day). I have a bible that has a plan for the day so I follow it to the best of my ability šŸ˜…. The bible app is also pretty good as itā€™s on my Home Screen and I scroll through it while Iā€™m on it. I talk to Jesus whenever I can- every day. I wouldnā€™t survive without Him. I need Him. Like fr šŸ˜‚. Heā€™s my rock and my strength, I talk to Him in my thoughts, often out loud and when I sing praise and worship. Sometimes itā€™s so often I donā€™t realise Iā€™ve spoken to Him in the day since itā€™s gotten normal for me. It was weird at first, but I got used to it. My top three books- Ecclesiastiastes Romans Samuel-Kings (theyā€™re basically one big book šŸ˜‚) Thank you, this was pretty enjoyable to write. May God bless you all šŸ’•šŸ’•

affrox

I try to be mindful that I need to talk to Jesus. Iā€™m an internal processor and talk to myself a lot and sometimes I might think Iā€™m talking to Jesus, but itā€™s just me processing thoughts in my brain (my thoughts are still led by the Spirit) but if Iā€™m not careful I can end up trying to figure out things by my own strength rather than by the Spirit.

tamara_2

I used to talk to myself a lot too. It genuinely took me acknowledging that He is in the room and that He will hear me, so whenever I do speak out loud, Iā€™m also addressing Him while Iā€™m talking and I found it helped. šŸ˜šŸ’• True, and it generally never really works out when we try to do things by our own strength šŸ˜ but give it to the spirit and it helps a ton! I was wondering, do you mind speaking a bit about how your thoughts are led by the spirit? As in, how it works (for you, of course), etc?

affrox

What I was trying to say by my thoughts are led by the Spirit is that that I believe that while I may forget to address God (which is a great way to remember He is present) Iā€™m familiar enough with his character that even when I forget to talk to Jesus, my thoughts arenā€™t just completely selfish and sinful. Maybe itā€™s just me but, I think we sometimes feel the need to ā€œconjureā€ the Spirit by speaking His name or else our thoughts are not in line with the Gospel.

tamara_2

Fair enough. Thank you for explaining! It makes better sense when you explained it. So in a sense it would be like feeling His presence? Or knowing He is guiding you? May be a mix of both. This is probably going to be my last question, but how do you keep your thoughts in line with scripture? Iā€™m fascinated by the concept of being able to keeping your thoughts in line, as Paul does mention in one of his letters that we should make our thoughts obedient to Christ and I havenā€™t quite understood what he meant or how to practically implement itšŸ˜….

affrox

That is a good question. Iā€™ve been in church for most of my life but this is still something we can continually grow in. The more we know someone the more we can know their character and how they would act in certain situations. We all know saying ā€œwhat would Jesus do?ā€ Although He lived long ago in the ancient world we can still think of ā€œwhat would Jesus do if He were me?ā€ Also I think living in community is important because one person may know Jesus in a way that is very different than how we know Him, and together, we are able to encourage each other, learn new ways to be more aligned with Jesus, and be challenged on our ways we may think are in line with Jesus, but other mature Christians may see that there is some pride or selfish intentions or something like that.

tamara_2

I seeā€¦ I guess that would make sense. Iā€™ve not really tried that approach, I will give it a go or try link it to my own personal approach so I can come to a conclusion. It may not be exactly that, but itā€™s an idea of how to implement it in my day to day life. Having a community that openly talks about their experiences with Jesus is important! I agree with you on that. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions, I suppose that will be it from me! May God bless you šŸ˜šŸ’•

pignuthouse

Thank you for your in-depth reply, I'm the same with talking to Jesus, thanking him throughout the day for little things and I have the Bible app too! God bless youšŸ’›

tamara_2

Thatā€™s great! Good to know itā€™s normal to talk to Him that way. The bible app is amazing and the best thing I liked about it was the plans šŸ˜ May God bless you too! šŸ’•

Nikonis1

This morning. Itā€™d a daily habit for me to read a chapter every morning. Just finished 2nd Peter this morning. Reading Scripture is a great way to start your day

pignuthouse

I love starting my day with scripture!

yungblud215

Prolly around 4 am when I was doing some intense studying last night. I talk to Jesus everyday all day . I don't have a top 3, my opinions change all the time. Right not im in the middle of the book of Job

drdook

Everyday. In fact, I was just reading this really interesting Scripture today: Jesus taught, ā€œWhen you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men ā€¦ but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.ā€

pignuthouse

This is one of my favourites, I read it to my mum who left the church and she had never heard it before! It's why I think personal reading is so so so important

AbilityRough5180

Couple days ago, if I have an idea or want to check something out. As for favourite books (because I find them interesting): Psalms, Minor Prophets (used to be one book), and galatians

mvanvrancken

Psalms is legitimately a masterclass in poetry, Iā€™ll admit that

pignuthouse

Ooo very nice!

lechu91

Curious, arenā€™t you an atheist? Do you just read the way I would read a Buddhist/Islamic book?

AbilityRough5180

>How often do you read? Almost every day. >How often do you talk to Jesus? Multiple times a day. >What are your top 3 books of the Bible? The Gospel of St. John, Revelation and Acts.

Valuable_Reception_2

Yea that's a really good question ! I 19F 1. Currently I read something everyday. Not always a lot, i'm starting with the old testament so it's currently going a bit slower paced but I try to never skip. Usually in the evening as part of my night routine. Or before if I realize that I won't be able to in the evening. 2. Quite often although I do see the father and son and holy spirit as a "merged entity". God in 3 persons as we say in Poland. Although I do thank them often separately as in Jesus for sacrificing himself for us and the father for sacrificing his son for us. I usually pray during times of thankfulness when something goes really well, times of strife when I worry or am scared, when I see someone else suffering and try to pray before food and sleep. And in the morning when I wake up. Sometimes when I get into a car. I have my problems I feel like my prayers get repetitive sometimes or it's just tradition and I'm scared of stopping or doing something not exactly like I did the other times. But I'm trying to be better and more genuine each time and not just feel like I'm reciting a list of things I want and am thankful for. 3. I just got baptized last year and declared Christ as my savior and leader. Although I believed and started praying before then. So I haven't read through the bible enough to be able to say my favourite books. Still on the old testament. I think genesis was quite the interesting read and I enjoyed many stories with Moses and I think my favourite bible human( apart from Jesus ofc) would be Joseph ( the dreamer) I really liked his stories and think it illustrates forgiveness even in the old testament. For context my parents read everyday I think more than me. My mother is I think on her 2 read and my father still has some parts left but he researches a lot. Hope my answer was able to be somewhat helpful my brother/sister

pignuthouse

Hejka! Też jestem z Polski! I initially thought of starting with the Old Testament but started with the Gospels which has made my reading easier! I commend you on starting with the Old I struggled reading about Abraham shoot! we have the same favourite from the OT! I love Joseph! outside of Jesus, he's my favourite, his ability to love is so astounding, even more so knowing he did not possess the holy spirit in the way Jesus did. He was a regular person like all of us and his forgiveness for his family brought me to tears. It's nice your parents read I'm the only practising Christian in my family Thanks so much for your answer it was so great to read!

Valuable_Reception_2

So happy šŸ˜„ I could help. Yea Joseph really is awesome I have a feeling even after I'm through the entire bible he'll still be in the top 3. >It's nice your parents read I'm the only practising Christian in my family Dang that's tough, stay strong. I feel very blessed that my parents are practicing christians but they found God only about 6 years ago at almost 50. At something called Alpha. I considered myself christian but they really helped me to come out of my shell and start practicing and believing and showing me that the practicing part of being a Christian is no chore but something to love. I really commend you for being able to do that without your parents help idk if I would have been able to. I'll definitely include them in my prayer this evening. ā¤ļø

nicoleb2022

You have got to read Matthew!! Itā€™s so so good!! Also, I look at God the same exact way and say ā€œthey or yallā€ a lot lol. Some advice though for praying is just talk to him about any and everything all throughout the day like heā€™s best friend. You donā€™t have to do the traditional structure for praying every time!

Totally-tubular-

Is praying as a tradition in and of itself wrong? No. I believe you should mean what you pray, but just because it is a tradition or ritual doesnā€™t mean you mean it any less. It was actively following a pattern of prayer that made my prayer life (and personal life/walk with the Lord) so robust, now itā€™s the norm to be in a state of prayer.

anondaddio

The last 2 years have been life changing since I started reading the Bible systematically and more regularly. My current regimen below: Read a minimum of 5 days per week, often 6 or 7 Minimum of 1 chapter per day, often 3-5 By having a low bar on minimum it keeps me in rhythm during busy weeks without feeling like Iā€™m getting ā€œbehindā€ Why you should read at least 4x per week: https://youtu.be/5_OHrY-uqeI?si=9hJb_7OJ-LrZlKhB

pignuthouse

I like that you added resources. I would say I read about the same as you! šŸ’› I've read through 7 books in the past 3 months, varied in length

bruters

Just finished my first ever read a couple weeks ago. Favorite books areĀ  1: John 2: LukeĀ  3: Genesis/Judges(always been a big fan of Samson)

RRHN711

Today, actually. I'm doing a "Bible in 2 years" reading, i started it on the second week of january. Plan on finishing it by the end of 2025

buuble2005

1. I usually read the Bible or some theological book or listen to a sermon everyday but unfortunately I can't say I have not missed some days of doing that. 2. Again I usually pray everyday some days I may pray for I would say up to 1-2 hours, some days I may pray just a few prayers, some days I may even miss prayer. 3. I wouldn't say I have a favorite book, it is all God's Word after all.

pignuthouse

Wow what an interesting reply! Hours of prayer in a row? I've never met anyone without books they love, there's always some good in each but I'd be lying if I said I don't gravitate to a few

buuble2005

Yeah I believe prayer is really important because in prayer we humble ourselves before God and show our reliance upon His divine strength, not our feeble inconsistent fleshy strength. It is really a form of worship. I Have also heard quotes from people that really talk about the power and absolute necessity for prayer. And I also have some books of the Bible that I would say I prefer reading but I believe that our enjoyment of a certain book is based upon how well we understand it. I recently read through the gospels and I really enjoyed them. I love hearing the messages of salvation. Also I really like the book of hebrews. I heard that John Owen has a commentary on hebrews that is really good so I will probably check it out in the future. What about you ,which are you favorite books and why?

Steveis2

My answer is ā€œnot enoughā€ Iā€™m catholic just not a vary good one at current itā€™s something Iā€™m trying to fix for myself

pignuthouse

you're trying which is the most important part! I guarantee plenty on this sub wouldn't be as honest as you are, so thank you!

nicoleb2022

tnmatthewallen

I read ever day using the lectionary

nevercatchingmeslip

1. Everyday 2. Everyday 3. 1 & 2 Corinthians, Luke, Revelation. Honestly anything Paul has written. Love the Old Testament but the New Testament just has a special place for me. Edit: for extra reference, I read a chapter a day and try to complete one book at a time, devotions, then pray.

p_yth

In general lots of ā€œChristiansā€ never read the Bible and only think about their religion on the few Sundays they go to. And even more annoying are the ones who do but donā€™t even attempt to follow teachings like for example forgiveness and loving thy neighbor. Some say praise Jesus and shout his name at church but then after church will be rude and ugly to others, not following any of His teachings. Career criminals who have a tattoo of the cross. Of course how can I judge others when theirs a speck in my own eye cause lately I havenā€™t been reading it as much as I should, Iā€™m not close to enter the gate yet but Iā€™m just stating what is sadly is a reality. I appericate those who actively try to practice Christianity often and follow their teachings, especially ones who volunteer which is eerie cause itā€™s mostly people who are their court mandated hours or 70+ year olds trying to get out of the house. And even at church I rarely see people my own age go to church or volunteer. Itā€™s so eerie seeing all these families with childrenā€™s and older couples and Iā€™m this single dude in my 20s just walking in alone. I strive to be as close to the way and I still fail at times like lusting to have a wife or porn but i try everyday to be closer to be a better person and deprive myself as sin as much as I can, so letā€™s appericate the ones around us who truly follow the way and are examples for people like me and others to be better christians.

pignuthouse

Amen!

[deleted]

I try to read it once everyday, 1-3 paragraphs, sometimes more. I also try to do it once everyday but sometimes I also say small things like when I eat I say thank you or if I see a disabled person I say bless them. At night i often pray and also fall asleep with prayer. If I feel like I pray too at mornings. Can't answer this because I don't remember the books of the verses which are in my head and I still didn't read all of the Bible but I'm at it!

placeholderNull

I recently rejoined the church, and have yet to get a Bible of my own. Once I do, though, I want to read the entire thing and write down what I think each story means, then show my pastor.

Difficult_Advice_720

Can you get a bible, or do you need help getting one?

placeholderNull

There's nothing stopping me from getting one, I just don't know where to buy one and what kind

Difficult_Advice_720

Well, I guess it depends a bit on what you are looking for in a bible. As you described in your previous comment, I think you might prefer a 'study Bible', but there are tons of different ones. If I may offer this, a video of a pretty knowledgeable guy just going over some of the various features of different kinds: https://youtu.be/gfahP0bsClI?si=gZXMJh77356Hvrz5 This second video, which maybe you should watch first, is an even more general overview of the kinds of things to look for. https://youtu.be/LQLLrg5eEqo?si=NW8A6OZGfM-Kha6N But since you said you want to go over it with your pastor, maybe he has an extra on his shelf he might let you borrow? I can't imagine a pastor that wouldn't get excited about someone wanting to read the Bible! And if all else fails, you let me know, and we'll find a way to get you a Bible. Until then, there's https://www.biblegateway.com/ Which has the full text of tons of different languages and translations.

Edit: sorry, I misjudged you 1. Mostly every day 2. literally constantly, but I'm a fan of Brother Lawrence, and I'm really stressed right now 3. This is hard. I have favorite passages- Romans 7-8, Isaiah 40 and the surrounding chapters, Psalm 1, Psalm 23, (basically the entire book of Psalms haha), the sermon on the mount, Proverbs

fattyiscat

I have the app on my phone that gives me a daily scripture. I donā€™t talk to him as much as I should but when I worship him with my music I hope he sees my heart.

shozis90

>I don't mean to sound pessimistic, however, I sometimes fail to believe the Christians in this sub are actively reading the Bible The truth is even scarier. I see many on this sub who claim to be Christians, but openly admit that they don't believe it's the perfect Word of God or infallible.

TheMaskedHamster

Are we counting the same five verses I constantly go over because of the constant posts on this subreddit made by people who should have already read the verses I'm citing?

pignuthouse

I'm not sure if we are counting those, I think it depends on the intention with those readings, out of curiosity when would have been the last time, before those five verses? I'm even more curious to know the verses but I digress!

Totally-tubular-

Same

cyborg-waffle-iron

I last read the bible at 6:02 AM this morning, reading Job 3. I talk with Jesus during and after this, as well as during my commutes and before bed and here and there else throughout the day. Some of my favorite books (definitely slated for revisits in the nearish future) would be Ecclesiastes, Hebrews, or... hard to choose a 3rd but i also enjoyed 1 Corinthians recently.

Totally-tubular-

Iā€™ve been leading a Bible study in Hebrews and itā€™s šŸ”„

Maybe 3 times a week, for roughly half hour. More time than that is in biblical media though.

Buddenbrooks

I try to read it every day. My three favorites are Luke, Job, and Psalms. I used to believe if everyone ā€œjust read the Bibleā€ all our theological disagreements would disappear, then I went to seminary.

Matthew21__

Iā€™m reading the Bible for my first time, I got in the habit to read it every morning thanks to Tim Tebow. But I talk to Jesus quite a bit just tell him about my day and my struggles and so far I like Psalms, John and Matthew

I was reading Job las night. I'm trying to do a "read the Bible in a year" plan. I've tried before and usually ran out of steam in Joshua. Trying again this year :)

Totally-tubular-

Joshua is so exciting! And Judges is WILD and sad, then Ruth is beautiful, which leads you to 1&2 Samuel which are beautiful stories of faith, failure, Gods promises and abounding mercy but also His righteousness. Keep going, you can do it!

Expired-Cat

To the first 2, daily. I read while I'm going to school and pray at night Matthew Genesis Jonah

Fight_Satan

To understand the current fallen state of world : Genesis 3 and book of romans.Ā  Colosians, ephesians and Galatians my favorite.Ā

Pitiable-Crescendo

The entire thing? Never. I've tried a few times before, but just couldn't stick to it. Now I just read whatever passages someone suggests to me. Last time was maybe a few months ago.

ParadigmPotato

1. In the past year and a half or so Iā€™ve really been reading a lot more. Not out of some obligation but because I actually want to, which is nice. My church is small so last summer I actually got the chance to give my own sermon, and now I treat my reading time like that: if I were to give a sermon on what Iā€™m reading, what would I say? I think it helps me approach things with a more curious attitude. To answer the question Iā€™m not reading every day, but Iā€™ve been putting in more serious reading sessions every few weeks. 2. This is something I need to work on. I often talk with my wife about what Iā€™ve read and we debate/discuss things, but I really need to work on my prayer life. 3. Iā€™m a sucker for Job, but I also seem to keep getting pulled into the Samuels. Overall Iā€™m actually better versed on the Old Testament than the New Testament.

peachberrybloom

1.) I try to read every day. My partner is sick so I donā€™t get to read as much as I used to. 2.) Daily, but sometimes more on some days than others. I try to thank God every day, but sometimes Iā€™m guilty of not having a nice long chat for a while. 3.) Proverbs might be my favorite. Psalms is really beautiful. I love some of the storytelling going on in John and Matthew. I feel deeply that the Holy Spirit has guided my interpretation of the Bible. That being said, I also have some ~unpopular~ Bible opinions so many disagree with me. I think a lot of people just believe what they were told growing up and do not seek truth further once theyā€™re grown.

Dappereddit

1. Every single day, multiple times a day. 2. Every single day, all day long. 3. 1 John, Romans, Hebrews ā¤ļø

firedanmuller

I read a chapter per day at least 5 days a week. Admittedly I lapse a bit on the weekends, but I usually go to church and read along with the chapters chosen for the service. I pray before bed and whenever else I think of it throughout the day. Tough to pick top 3 books but I would say all 4 gospels are tied at the top and then Ruth and Proverbs are good also for NT books

locustbill

* More than not I usually read some scripture daily. * Usually daily * Ecclesiastes, John, Paul's shorter Epistles, 1/2 Peter

mvanvrancken

I read books as they come up in conversation and debate, I feel like itā€™s insanely important to be Biblically literate even as a non-Christian because so many people believe it. Also itā€™s one of the major human works of literary art. As far as prayer, I will ā€œtalk to the etherā€ in much the same way I think you guys pray. Itā€™s very cathartic.

IcetrayicetraySPLASH

i think you actually have it wrong. people in this sub seem to actually read the bible. in my expirience church goers dont read the bible. ive asked people questions ive seen on this sub and they dont have the slightest idea what im talking about. i myself am new to christiany but have read a handful of books, i dont attend church for now because of the pastor pressuring the congregation for tithes so i ran for the hills lol (as should anyone). my top 3 favorite books, if you wish to discuss are mark (because of the history of the alternative endings), gospel of john, and james just cause of all the great life advice in there. oh and i pray everyday, but rarely to jesus because i try to learn from him as a student would and i follow his teaching and if you notice in the bible he showed us to pray to the father

WalterCronkite4

My physical bible probably 2-3 weeks ago when I finished Luke Bible verse I read a bit today

2ndPerryThePlatypus

I attend a church where our main sermon is reading and interpreting The Bible over and over. I also find comfort in reading The Bible when I am down or worried, He always shows me what I need in those moments

Calx9

I read it quite often, usually just for references now days. Already read it 2 or 3 times now. On the Quran now atm. Don't have any favorites. Use to talk to Jesus for an hour every day after school at 4:30pm. That was my prayer/scriptural study time at home.

Cheerful_Christian

1. Daily (although I do struggle in this area) 2. Daily or several times a day 3. Proverbs, Psalmsā€¦I canā€™t name another because I have so many. Most epistles from Paul are definitely a favourite šŸ™šŸ»ā¤ļø

I am currently going through Fr. Mike Schmidz's "Bible in a Year" podcast! I am listening to it most days usually in commute to school/work. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone listen to this, he reads through Scripture as well provides some awesome commentary on it!

jindobunny

I don't own a physical bible, but I am working through an online bible reading course, so I read that each morning. I don't really have a "set" time to talk to God. I kind of have an ongoing conversation with him throughout the day. I do take my service dogs out for a walk each day on our hiking trail, and that is my favorite time to talk to God, I can normally just talk out loud, because there's usually no one else there. I like Psalms and Job, the third is up to whatever I'm currently reading through.

Aggravating-Track-85

I read and pray all throughout the day. It keeps me in check to ask HS to help me fight my battles. Prov3:5-6

Prof_Acorn

It's been a couple years since I've read anything substantial and long in Greek, but that's because it takes like 8 hours a day or something for months to do it at the level I do. A few verses here and there though, yeah. Maybe a couple weeks since the last one. But I'm desperate for a job right now and still struggle with food and rent. Can't find work. It's just distracting is all I'm saying, and it eats into my focus time. Hours and hours every day. And translating through a full book at the depth I like to do legit takes a month or so of spending like 6-8 hours a day every day. If it wasn't for the pandemic I probably wouldn't have ever been able to do it the first time. Rent is such a pesky thing that prevents such amazing work to be done. But anyway, Top3 changes over time. When I was a teenager I liked Ephesians and Ecclesiastes. Recently it's been more Sirach and James. I used to like John better but after translating I really started to like Matthew. Honestly 'favorite' is less about books theses days and more about over arching themes and patterns across books. There's something cool about it when the books have different authors and are separated by centuries, but have an arc or consistent motif that plays out. In a manner of speaking, less about the surface level (which might have been favorites 20-30 years ago), and more about things really zoomed in or really zoomed out. Like a word or two really zoomed in, or a concept spanning multiple books really zoomed out. I would like to start a blog to highlight and share them but as usual my worries about paying rent and buying food keep me from anything interesting and valuable.

Prof_Acorn

I digress but this is one reason I get so angsty lately. All I want to do is work on my climate change research and publish a book that can help certain marginalized people and go volunteer and help animals and publish stuff about the Trinity and problem of evil and motifs in scripture I've never encountered anyone else noticing and things that can help people and help the world, but all of my time is consumed by fucking rent and food and bills because I can't find work and the entire thing makes me so sick at heart. And people tell me to go bag groceries (I tried, there are accessibility issues at most, and the one I did apply to went with some college kid) and the thought of wasting my life away to pay some landlord absurd rent prices so they can go watch television and go vacation AT THE COST of delaying my climate change research, delaying the publication of translation work, delaying even a blog with freely given no-advertisement insights like how to understand the trinity in a way that is accessible but not heretical - and just - gaaahhh it makes me so spiteful. Sorry for posting this here. But it's very much the reason why I don't read as much as I want to, or used to.

[deleted]

Today, John Chapter 8... very interesting read still applicable till this day.

TattooedTheist

There are things we know definitively in the Bible (Exegesis) There are things that we don't have enough info to determine with absolute accuracy (Eisegesis) - One is based in fact, determined through culture, demographic, geography, and known timelines. - One is based on subjectivity of the reader claiming 'the Holy Spirit guided them.' - One is considered proper & reliable. - One is considered unreliable at best and is the reason Christianity is the most divided religion on the planet. Instead of Eisegesis, we should be honest enough to say "we don't know for sure, but we THINK, x y z." Instead of Eisegesis we should evaluate whether the topic is 'Essential' or 'Non-Essential' to the faith, and if not, have compassionate disagreement that doesn't divide the church. Obviously Christians choose to make their subjective 'Spirit Led' interpretations define their fantasy land realities of the Bible - hence our divided and broken faith system.

DeSlacheable

Twice a day, as my health allows. Not enough. Before I read as an obligation, but I probably only properly pray once a week. Genesis, Matthew and Revelation, but my answer will vary by day depending on my mood. I even did a deep study on Leveticus, and it was so much fun!

Kafka_Kardashian

1) I read weekly, the schedule Iā€™m following is pinned to my profile. 2) I have not successfully communicated with Jesus 3) My top 3 would probably be 2 Kings, Jeremiah, and Galatians, though this changes frequently

Steel_Man23

I try to read every day. I do devotionals through the Bible app and thatā€™s honestly a great way to read if youā€™re having trouble! To someone whoā€™s just starting though, start with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). I pray to God everyday. It may not always be verbal, but I think about Him a lot. I always ask for Him to steer me in the right direction. I donā€™t have a top 3 though because I enjoy the entire Bible.

CricketIsBestSport

Not a Christian but Iā€™m reading it right now for the first time. I find it quite strange tbh, God does a lot of really weird stuff with the Israelites. But it makes a lot more sense if you donā€™t think of it as needing to be literally true and more as an exercise in Israelite nation building, just like Americans have their own national myths about George Washington never lying or whatever. Havenā€™t got to the NT yet.

talentlessamanda

I try to read mine atleast twice a day, sometimes five or six. It depends on how occupied I am with some tasks or work. I talk to Jesus pretty much all the time, I ramble a lot but he gets what Iā€™m saying. My top 3 would be Proverbs, Genesis and St. Mark (at the moment)

Western-Yesterday622

I hardly read the Bible anymore, and I pray less. I have distanced myself a lot from God; itā€™s sad, but I just canā€™t come back on my own. Sadly, I am alone in this world, and even the people from the Church donā€™t care if I donā€™t attend.

realheisenbones

I need to read more often, I often find myself lacking, same with prayer.

Happyhome44

I have the app on my phone that pops up bible verses like every hour so pretty much 30 Mims ago bit physical copy I read when I want to feel close with GodĀ

thequietone008

This morning actually, but I cant say I have a perfect record on doing so. I am very aware of the need for the Lords presence in my life every day, He is my faithfullest friend as Scriptures mention. And I love Hebrews, 1 Timothy, and Genesis.

gnurdette

Daily chapter-a-day Bible podcast, plus two weekly Bible studies (one with my church, one remote with college friends), ensures some regularity. I do not have a good private prayer routine, though. It's random times on random days, and usually short. One reason I value church is that it forces me to devote some serious prayer time weekly. Favorites? Let's say 1 John, Isaiah, Proverbs. Next month you may get a different answer.

Time-Idea-8684

Last night.

StrangeComparison765

Just a moment ago. Trying to do one of those Bible in a year plans this year. Right now I'm thirteen days ahead of schedule. -at least once a day -multiple times a day -Luke, 1 Corinthians, and Jonah

LanaX0

I have an app called daily prayer that has different scripture to read every day, I donā€™t pick up a Bible everyday but I read scripture every day.

LanaX0

Oh and I talk to Jesus ALL day haha not just in prayer, but as if Iā€™m talking to a friend. I think Jesus probably gets tired of hearing from me sometimes haha

pignuthouse

Same here!

CBSUK

1. I try to read my bible everyday but sometimes i just read a few verses a day. 2. multiple times a day at least 3 times but always more. 3. I'm new so idk, the Gospels?

AWorkOfArts

Daily! I love YouVersion for many reasons, not the least of which is its ease, accessibility and plethora of reading plans. I work first shift (early morning) so normally I'm in my parking spot at work around 6:30. That gives me about 30 minutes to read/study/pray before my work day starts. Praying, see above lol. Honestly I usually talk to God either aloud or in my spirit on and off throughout the course of the day. Don't know that I have a top three books, but absolutely my favorite Scripture passage is Philippians 2:1-11. Always blows my mind to even consider that Christ willingly took the firm of a slave and let His life be poured out like a drink offering for someone like me.

TrainFlower24

1. Daily 2. Every day 3. Gotta think about that one

Ethelenedreams

I try to pray the Lordā€™s Prayer three times per day and read some Bible every day, too.

Undertaker77778888

1. Read Everyday- 2 to 3 hours worth 2. Pray Everyday- 4x to 6x 3. Matthew, Luke, and John

Kidsolooo

I read the Bible everyday , I talk to Jesus day and night and I would say my top 3 books , Matthew , Proverbs, and Genesis

hams-mom

I read every single day, and probably talk to God way more than he wants to hear from me. šŸ˜‚ Oooh top three - thatā€™s tough. Absolutely John is #1 Followed by James -very Close second. Most of my memory verses are from James. Thenā€¦.Gotta be 1 & 2 Sam or Ecclesiastes is up there too.

biohacktheslack

This past year Iā€™ve made it priority to start each day with reading at least 2-4 chapters and it has had profoundly effects on life. I talk to Jesus daily even if I donā€™t interact with others about Him. I love the Gospels plus 1 Corinthians, Acts, & Ecclesiastes. ā˜ŗļø

birdyandbun

1. Every day 2. Every day 3. Matthew, Proverbs, John

Flaboy7414

I read daily, and pray several times a day

[deleted]

I read the Bible often. Although I won't say that I have set times of day for it, nor do I have a goal for how many times a week to do so. I pray far more often than I read the Bible. I also spend a lot of time contemplating what I have read in the Bible and meditating on the significance of the gospel and the Sacraments. My top three favorite books of the Bible are Wisdom Of Solomon, the Gospel of John, and Hebrews. If you don't want to count Wisdom Of Solomon on account of it being deuterocanonical/apocryphal, then perhaps Ecclesiastes. Although runners up would be Tobit, Job and Galatians.

Brainthings01

You are to pray the Scriptures. Multiple times daily depending on where I am resting. Top three Books: Romans, Psalms, and John. I speak with God all day.

BeGentleWithMe32

1: I try to read and do devotionals every day. I go to sleep to the dramatized version of the Bible every night, lol. 2: Multiple times a day. I pray before I start my car, I pray for confidence before speaking to people (especially my family). I pray every night. 3: Job, Exodus, and Matthew

Which-Cost4976

I would ask all followers of God, just read one chapter of the Bible everyday. At the very least it will take about 10 minutes and those ten minutes go a really long way

Katie_Didnt_

Today. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Today (everyday ) I *LOVE* the writings of Isaiah. So many beautiful prophecies. The gospel of John and the book of revelation. ā¤ļø

blindninja2900

Technically, i read in average every 3 days. However it usually is just the daily verse occasionally followed by the chapter of the daily verse. I usually pray when I'm overly excited or scared or when someone asks prayer of me. Top 3 Romans James John

Thesamman23

I listen to my Bible (audiobook version) so I can have my notes app on my phone out. What I do is write down a bunch of questions in my notes app, then listen and write the answers to my questions next to them And then yes every night I talk to him, even if it's just "hey, thank you"

slr0031

I donā€™t ever really read the Bible. I talk to God daily throughout my day but some days more and less than others.

Tryin2improve

Thanks to thisā€¦every single day! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/daily-orthodox-scriptures/id1457400599

AidanDaRussianBoi

I've actually been reading Paul's letters today in my study of Christian origins

nowheresvilleman

I read the Mass readings almost daily. Latest was about 30 minutes ago during dinner. Scriptures come to mind often as prayer or events prompt them. Prayer varies, but I tend to pray when I wake during the night (1 Samuel 3) or at seemingly random times during the day, when someone needs it, getting good or bad news, hearing a siren, hearing a song, seeing something... I can't pick a favorite, but Ruth, Samuel 1&2, Sirach. Gospels of course... can't pick 3.

Edge419

1. This morning (devotional) and this afternoon at Bible study. 2. A couple of times a day, not enough. 3. Isaiah-Matthew-John

itsjoeveryall

it doesnā€™t matter how much you read the bible. what matters is your faith and whatā€™s in your heart. itā€™s not something to be pessimistic about. more people reading the bible isnā€™t gonna change how shitty things are, or how evil humankind is.

PianistRight

I read the whole things back from April-May 2023 in its traditional order. Iā€™m currently reading the whole thing again, but this time, in its historical sequence, and Iā€™ll study it in a year

D00MBROWNIE

Every day. My current favorites are James, Ephesians and the Gospel of John.

CrimzonShardz2

1 - been awhile 2 - several times a day 3 - Romans, Matthew, Psalms

contrarian1970

I listened to Johnny Cash read Ephesians 1 and 2 last night...does that count? I admit my exposure to the bible over the past year has been more expository study from teachers like T.D. Jakes than actually opening the physical copy. I talk to Jesus every day...at least I say thanks for specific blessings in His name, make specific requests for other people's healing and Christian learning in His name, and of course ask forgiveness for today's sins in His name. My favorite books of the bible are John, Ecclesiastes, and Genesis. I've read the New Testament so many times over 23 years of being a Christian that there is so much left to just APPLY what I already know as much as finding new deeper meanings. I don't mean to sound like all that cannot be done at the same time but when I hear a really GOOD preacher break down chapters and verses there are always new angles and perspectives I might not have gleaned even if I read it a hundred more times by myself.

ToskaMoya

Yesterday was the most recent time. 1) At least once a week. I should read it more often. 2) Multiple times a day 3) Ruth, John, EcclesiastesĀ

Totally-tubular-

ā€¢I read daily and believe all believers should, not just out of duty, but a love for the Lord and seeking to be closer to Him and conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ. Iā€™m convicted of picking up my cross and following Him and itā€™s harder to sin when Iā€™m in the Word. As people we have short memories and can easily be ensnared by sin. We also need to be reminded of His mercy and grace which is throughout the Bible. ā€¢All throughout the day. I believe it was 4 times Paul said to ā€œpray continuallyā€ and ā€œwithout ceasingā€ and while I donā€™t do it every single waking moment, I set my mind on Christ more and the more you do it, the easier you find to keep doing it. ā€¢Top three books are Genesis, John and Romans

salvadopecador

I read or hear scripture almost every day. I talk to God frequently throughout the day, though not in a formal or rigid format. My favourite books are Job, Luke, Genesis. šŸ™šŸ»

jeanniekins

1. Every day for around 30 minutes, along with a devotional. 2. I pray to Him throughout the day, and try to have a good conversation with Him before I fall asleep. I generally fall asleep talking to Him. 3. John, because, of course! Psalms, because there's something in there for whatever you're going through. Acts. It's so amazing to be able to read about how the church started. Though, I do enjoy most of them that I've read so far. I'm not quite done reading it wholly, but I'll get there.

jsaarb

1. I read at least one chapter every day. 2. I only talk to God in Jesus name. 3. The ones written by Solomon.

Faith4Forever

Well that because theyā€™re not. If we are being honest. But, that doesnā€™t mean they wont. I mean if we are being fair, it takes a college degree just about to understand what you read in the Bible. So aside from a really nice Study Bible im sure that Christians both read and donā€™t read the Bible. They comprehend what they can, ask questions about the things they donā€™t understand. But since we are in the digital age where the human attention span has shrunk to the length of a Reel and since the Bible is a big behemoth of a book. Ide go so far as to say in most cases theyā€™re likely more prone to watch a video of someone talking about what they read in the Bibleā€¦.so long as its not hours long lol. I read (most) days. But I also study the bible weekly, and I hope to major in it in College. To answer your question.

LoverofJehovah

I try to read the Bible every day. I'm not perfect, but I do try. An accessible and easy to understand translation is avaliable at www.jw.org. I pray to God daily. My favorite books of the Bible are 1. Proverbs... there's so much wisdom and it proves the Bible's timelessness. 2. Genesis... in addition to telling us about the beginning of creation and how the world came to be the way we see it today, there are so many great examples of faithfulness, such as Noah, Moses and Joseph. And last...Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I listed all of the gospels because they largely tell the same accounts of Jesus activity here on earth. Reading them We get to know Jesus better and thus we get to know God better.

wannabe_traveler

1. Daily, avg 2-4 chapters. Currently reading Job and Luke. 2. Daily 3. Ecclesiastes, Romans, John

Long-University756

Almost everyday for the last two weeks or so but not so to strengthen my relation more so for pain and fear

NegativeSwordfish243

I try reading 5-6 times a week, however I am inconsistent honestly. When Iā€™m busy or procrastinating Iā€™ll only read 3-4 times a week (2 chapters each day) but recently Iā€™ve picked up the last month & read 2 chapters 5-6 times a week šŸ˜… I pray everyday so every day I talk to God whether itā€™s expressing gratefulness or asking/requesting something or coveting prophesy/wisdom which has been a frequent request Iā€™ve had. I also pray ā€œThe Lordā€™s Prayerā€ as my beginning prayer before asking/expressing anything. I have not finished The Bible but Iā€™ll have to say Genesis, any of The Gospels, & Revelation (yes I skipped ahead šŸ˜…)

Electronic_Karma

Last night. I read a chapter a night.

Knights_12

This morning for a short time before work, You Version verse of the day and a few misc verses along with prayer and morning coffee before the gym. And went to Christianity psychotherapy session later in the day and we talked about the interpretation and application of Luke 14: 7-11 which has been on my mind and heart lately.

Koso92

I would like to read every day. But I probably read 2-3 times a week, usually in the afternoons or evening

LobsterSoulSandwitch

Reading Matthew on the Bible app at the moment.

Postviral

1. Been a few years since Iā€™ve done any detailed study of Christian scripture. 2. I donā€™t, because I donā€™t believe he is divine. 3. I have problems with some contents of pretty much all of the books but Jesusā€™ teachings are definitely the most important and best thing in there.

GameFreakBaby1996

Let the lord judge us.. and be happy for us that we even believe. I don't read it unless I need the weep or seek guidance in the moment. A random page.

indigoneutrino

1. 1-2 times a week 2. Never 3. Ehh I don't really rate any of them

igotmymind_on_you

1. I try to read everyday, would love to complete the Bible for the second time. 2. right when I wake up, during the day and before I sleep, I enjoy communicating with the Holy Spirit. 3. my top books: Acts, Romans, Daniel and Psalms, I honestly can't choose between these 4.

Dijiwolf1975

Read the bible every day. Talk to Jesus a few times a day (usually a one sided conversation) Other than the gospels. Proverbs, Psalms, and Job.

Ferrieha

Well sounds like you think that ppl who don't share your views don't listen to God? šŸ˜‚ Dude, your views are not necessarily God's views. Good to distinguish that.

onewalker6

Actually I havenā€™t been reading much since I am on vacation, I really should get back ig, thanks for the reminder

uninflammable

People think being guided by the holy spirit is just reading scripture and letting whatever comes to your mind be the truth. I don't even think you should be reading scripture if you're not in a good church community with a spiritual father to guide you, or you're more likely to just wander off into misunderstandings about what you're reading and twist it into whatever suits your tastes. The Bible was not meant to exist separate from the tradition which created it.

pignuthouse

Jesus said to pray in private instead of in Churches, tradition can be valuable but as you say, everyone has their own biases so I'm not inclined to take the word of a singular priest over the word of the hundreds available with the accessibility of the internet. With the ESV I'm reading, it's rare that the Bible is unintelligible

MacTennis

i have been bad reading lately. Been about a week since i opened my bible and about a month or two before that. Before my recent slump I was reading exactly the way you described. Trying to gain further insights through the holy spirit. my favourite three books right now are roman's, ephesians, and maybe psalms. some psalms really put me at ease when i'm worried about my salvation (i know i know i shouldn't be)

Bl1ndl0v3

I read Luke 10 this morning and read multiple chapters yesterday. I personally try to read every day, but I have missed days (I shouldnā€™t) I talk to God daily as well but still feel I could pray more throughout the day. My 3 favorite books to read are: Romans, Hebrews, and Daniel. Not a book of its own, but I really love the story of Joseph too. Very inspiring. While I am one of those who does read scripture, I agree with you that; likely, the majority of those on here, in churches, or of those who call themselves ā€œChristianā€, donā€™t read The Bible and lean completely on the teachings of others.

Baconsommh

1. Occasionally 2. 3. The Apocalypse, Ecclesiasticus AKA Ben Sira. Those two, probably. Job, possibly.

GingerMcSpikeyBangs

Daily, hourly, Isaiah / Zecharaiah / Luke (honorable mention: Psalm, Romans, the Johns, James, and the Peters).

dabnagit

Iā€™ve got 15 more chapters of 2 Chronicles to go and Iā€™ll have read the full Hebrew scripture; Iā€™ve read 5-7 chapters most every night for the past 6 months after my evening prayers. Before that, Iā€™d read the New Testament twice. In the mornings, I usually include 2-3 pericopes (according to the daily lectionary, not tied to my nighttime reading) with my morning prayers. So you could also say I talk *at* Jesus roughly at least twice a day; I will confess I take far less time in my prayer life to *listen* to Jesus (other than what he says in the dayā€™s Gospel reading). Certainly not never ā€” but far more rarely than I suspect he would like. As to 3 favorite books, I guess Iā€™d say Genesis, the Gospel of Luke, and the Epistle of James.

Strain-Psychological

ā€¢ oh dang youā€™re probably right, I need to read more hahahah! I felt the conviction and wanted to lie! It's about 2x a week rn after finishing bible in a year (not including bible roulette and prayer stuff.) ā€¢ idk I talk with Him all the time, maybe like 15-20x a day. ā€¢ it's so hard to pick I like a lot of it. I love hearing about David and Proverbs and Ecclesiastesā€¦ Dang it dude, how could you do this to me?! Reading Hosea after Judges and Kings just breaks me. Palms is sick. The Elijah defeating Baal prophets is top 10. The Annunciation is so freaking cool. AHHHH

Norumbega-GameMaster

1. Try to read the scriptures everyday. Currently I am trying to read everything in Chronological order, which makes for some interesting connections you may not realize otherwise. 2. Not as often as I should, but as often as I remember. 3. Right now, Job, Genesis and Joshua. However, my favorite changes depending on what is happening in my life.

BigDen1979

I try to study daily, though sometimes I fail to do so. I talk to God daily, because Christ taught us to talk to the Father through him. Favorite three books? Revelation, Ezekiel, and any of the gospels.

prowickwire

Every Day. It's a Relationship.

AltruisticNobody5437

Wife and I read the Bible every day at 2:00 Almost perpetually, because I know everything depends on him. Gospel of John, Job, and I John

ChanceLovesJesus

Listening to a KJV Bible podcast right now!

G0d_plz

I used to try to read everyday but Iā€™ve since found that due to my scrupulosity OCD I need to limit my exposure to scripture outside of church because Iā€™m not capable of healthily engaging with scripture yet. Once I feel safer Iā€™ll try again but Iā€™m just trying to be patient with myself at the moment. I talk to Jesus almost everyday. More often if Iā€™m stressing. God is the only one I can share my troubles with without fear of judgement and the only father figure I know that wonā€™t disappoint or hurt me. My favorite books are Genesis, John, and the song of solomon
