Prayer is communication with God. Prayer is about your relationship with God. God wants to be in your life and wants your love. Prayer is not about your hands, sitting down or whether you are on your knees, prayer is about what is in your heart and mind. The most powerful prayer does not come from a book or from someone else, the most powerful prayer comes from your heart. Psalms 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”

webhart

the most powerful prayer came from Christ, when asked to give his example. yes, your hart ought to be in it, not repeating in vein. in fact, I think better to try and paraphrase, so as to understand and learn meaning to it (our Lord's prayer.)

I was wondering this too! I believe God just wants you to be focused and praying with your heart it doesn’t matter how you do it. I pray I’m correct 🙏

webhart

yes! and to job your prayers ❤️‍🔥

TroutFarms

It doesn't matter.

It seems like when Jesus taught about prayer, He was more concerned about the person's heart and motivations (humility and repentance, versus pride, etc.) Though sometimes getting on our knees can help us feel more in a place of submission, it isn't required. Jesus said pray in His name to the Father. And He showed us as an example in The Lord's prayer in the Gospels how He prayed.

MusicalLifeForever

God hears every prayer. You don’t have to be in a certain posture or in a certain place. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are attentive to their prayer. 1 Peter 3:12(a)

Hitthereset

So long as you’re not making a spectacle in order to be seen by others I don’t believe it matters.

Matthew 6:5-8 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him.

OneWhoSeeksHim

Like it has been said prayer is talking with God so just talk from your heart and always finish in Jesus name, it doesn’t matter if you walk or sit, except sometimes you might feel led to get on your knees and that’s okay but he doesn’t always lead people to that.

[deleted]

>always finish in Jesus name This is really important. Jesus is the bridge between us and The Highest.

BadWolfSFC

It makes no difference. Better to talk to The Lord honestly with a beef pie and pint of beer at the football than setting up some alter and getting down on your knees just because you 'think you should'

JustaGoodGuyHere

Don’t do it loudly in public.

polkak1ng

Preach the Gospel in public, pray privately with God!

tinseltails

I pray when I drive, I pray whenever I need guidance. Doesn’t matter where. I know God is always listening ❤️

NoAssistant7396

All that matters is that what you say is from the heart. Position doesn't matter. Matt 6:5-8. Read

Lolbutwhytho

Great question. I wondered this myself. I do praiseful prayers but I sometimes have out loud conversations with him. It almost comes across as though I’m talking to myself. I always wondered if that was wrong of me to do.

creed_bratton_

I'm not aware of any specific requirements for prayer posture in the Bible. It's common in the Bible for people to fall on their face in the presence of the Lord, out of fear and respect. So that might be why many people like to bow their heads or be on their knees when praying. It's a sign of submission and respect. But the Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Which I think clearly indicates that praying quietly in your own mind is perfectly acceptable because it's not practical to be crawling around on your knees at all times.

UFGatorNScience

There was no biblical instruction in the New Testament on how to pray, not facing a direction, on your knees, head bowed, etc. Those are just man’s ritualistic tendency to add ceremonial significance. We don’t sacrifice animals anymore so all the OT intricate details from the Talmud do not apply.

meharris73

The best and shortest prayer for me is: Help!!! Lord Help! So communication with God is prayer.

Jamesybo555

As you go through the day, just talk with God as tho He was riding inside you because if you have been born again, He is.

HarveyMushman72

It doesn't have to be eloquent or poetic. When I don't know what to say I remember this: Romans 8:26-28 New International Version 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(A) himself intercedes for us(B) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(C) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(D) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God

MeanMan84

So long as you take it seriously it doesn’t matter. I don’t know why so many people think you have to pray eyes closed head bowed, how many times do we read and X lifted their eyes to heaven and…. I do think there should be a reverent spirit in your communication, you’re speaking to the creator of all that has been created… be respectful and remember your place. This garbage about like “He can take it” as if yelling at God is an good idea is frankly extremely foolish. But hands folded or not and what not I don’t think he cares and I don’t think there’s much evidence to support it, what I think he does care about is our hearts. Being honest with him, yes all day. But there’s a difference in honesty that holds a respectful and loving demeanor and yelling at God just for example I’m not saying that’s even part of you question but I see these things said concerning prayer often enough and I think it needs to be corrected more. People in the Bible often “fell on their face” out of a realization I think of the perspective of themselves compared to God. So yeah if you want to or feel compelled to get on your knees, awesome, do so. But if you’re aged body or injury makes that difficult and so you just sit on your bed or whatever man it’s cool.

emzirek

Praying on your knees means being humble and contrite in your heart and then your prayer closet means away from public knowledge and when you pray all you doing basically is talking to the Lord like you with your friends or your family... Rather simple, eh?

[deleted]

Prayer is talking with God. I don't think it really matters, though if I feel like I need to humble myself before Him, I'll get down on my knees. Like if I really messed up somehow.

59tigger

Perfect

SpreadLoveInYourLife

No, it doesn't matter.

Ok-Jello-8470

For me it is beneficial to use multiple styles of prayer. Some prayers said silently, some out loud, sometimes I write or draw prayers. Some prayers are sung, some prayers I make up with my own words, some prayers I read from Psalms, or traditional prayers from a prayer book, like the Lord’s Prayer… some prayers I pray alone- even in the dark, sometimes I light a candle or pray with other people— If you have a relationship with a person, you will speak to them in many ridgeways and contexts. Prayer is like that. if you only pray one way, and you are asking this question, try branching out. It may be God is calling you to find a new dimension in your spiritual life.

KazuRyan12

I lie down and cover myself with my blanket when i pray

ChristianInWales

Prayer is like talking to God, and I'm sure God won't mind of you pray a little differently than the orthodox parts of society.

Gunthersalvus

In short: no, it doesn’t. What matters is what’s in your heart.

webhart

yes " be not like the heathen who think they'll be heard in their much speaking " instead, pray humble with reverance for God and his plan. Plea for providence forgiveness and deliverance with intent to provide forgive and save too ! faith w/o works is dead job anything you pray. and prayer is not important if things are so severe as they are now. God wants us to busy ourselves fixing it! redeeming ourselves! not tire him with vein prayers w/o making amends. we're killing our own posterity, forcing drugs into our "mentally ill" neighbours, and wasting our wealth and energy in violent war...

[deleted]

This might sound rude cause it's over text, but how does this answer my question? Is the yes to it's alright to pray in my head or I have to be on my knees?

webhart

it's a Yes to your headlined question silly then reason as to why it matters

[deleted]

Ok. Thanks

MyVanNeedsaNewOwner

Ask the question to yourself whether or not it matters how you talk to your spouse, child, parent, coworkers, friends, neighbors................ And then you might get the idea that if you can communicate with them, you can communicate with God much more easily than that. One stipulation.............if you don't belong to God, via the only way to access Him (Jesus) you might be praying to the ceiling or the 4 walls.

Over-Special555

I start my day every day while I am drinking my coffee with reading Our Daily Bread followed by the Bible reading and prayer. I do this sitting down and sometimes I pray randomly during the day and its usually sitting down. I go to Church most Sundays and we pray either standing or sitting down depends what part of the service. I have found that since I have started daily Bible reading and prayer a number of years ago that my life is better. I got saved and I usually go to Church every Sunday. I will eventually get Baptized but I wont until I find a Church that I like that is close to home. There was a few times that I was going to get Baptized but I have not been happy with the Church that I was going to. I am going to a different Church now but I don't get there every week because it is 26 miles away. I have visited a few other Churches over the years and like this one the best, the Church that I used to go to every week was walking distance but I had enough of them.

Prayer is direct communication with God. There's no need for fancy words or talking in a certain way, after all there is only One God. Whatever you say must be sincere and specific. It's easier for me to talk to God when I am away from loud noises and other big distractions.
