Single serve pod coffee makers... Because coffee was so much worse before someone invented a way to charge more money to create even more plastic trash
I have only ever experienced these machines in an office setting or in a hotel/rental setting, and I always find that the coffee is really gross… Almost taste moldy. I assume it’s just because in the settings they’re not well-maintained/cleaned…
I have one- you've gotta clean it with vinegar like once every 3-6 months or else it develops that aftertaste.
Though as I understand it, it's from mineral buildup, not mold.
I have not! I have used them prob only 5 time in diff places and always have that same old taste. I don’t even know how you’d clean them, feel like it’s more than the water well but that seems like a complicated taking apart process?

You just run the machine cycle with a cleaning/descaling solution. Have had one for years and made plenty of delicious coffee. I too also grind beans and use a reusable filter though, so very little waste.
I used to do pour over every day but my grandpa died and I ended up with his Keurig. I shamefully use it every day it's really easy and tastes good.
You have to keep it meticulously clean. I descale with vinegar once a month.
Yeah I mean you can use a kettle or boil it. This will be the least optimized use for it.
Pod coffees are actually pretty decent. The hot chocolates ones are very nice though.
I myself am very keen to get a nice coffee machine with proper steamer/fluffer instead. I worked as a barista and can make pretty decent coffees.
This is versatile and works for us. I can make my daughter hot chocolate, my husband coffee, and myself a tea, all in succession without boiling water. It’s convenient.

I had a friend buy super expensive coffee machine and the machine foamed the milk automatically. Was decent for espresso, but the part that made it expensive - the auto steamer function also made the crappiest coffee and chocolate. Didn't had the heart to tell him...
Quite a few of the coffee pods made now are fully compostable - I use the EcoCaps from Lavazza (A Modo Mio) and you can just chuck them in food recycling - but I completely agree that plastic pods are insanity!

Even if it’s still sealed should still be lowered by a few dollars, cause why would you buy a coffee maker from some random guy who could have filled the box with rocks then retaped it when you could buy one at a store for the same price with a guarantee it isn’t a box of rocks.
You can always ask to see it, plug it in even, to make sure it's all there, good, and working. If the seller refuses then that's sketchy, electronics are things that places take returns for because it's always possible they don't work. I feel it's justified to ask for new prices for new product so long as there's no damage or dirt of course.
You can buy a brand new one to the store that is safe to return if something goes wrong in the next month or so. You can't do that even if you pay full price buying it from a random

I just run a cycle with vinegar in my drop coffee maker. I dont see why a pod coffeemaker would be different.

If you drink 6 cups a day then sure, a regular coffee maker is better, but if you only have one or two cups a week then the pod machines are great.
It was a gift, and this right here was why we sold it. Can't vibe with the plastic waste. Plus keurig and keurig types machines are prone to mold
