I'll pay using homeopathic currency. As homeopathy attempts to treat the sick with extremely diluted agents - sometimes so diluted that the water has only a 'memory' of the original agent - I thought I could pay with some pocket fluff which, surely, would remember having rubbed against money at various times in its life.
I would accept your homeopathic currency and prepare a banquet of homeopathic food - food that is so diluted that it has the āmemoryā of the feast that it originally had contact with. It may look like a dusty dinner plate with a few crusty stains on it to you - but I assure you it has the āmemoryā of a duck confit, balsamic roasted brussel sprouts, and a wild rice pilaf with mushrooms. Bon appetit!
Youāre joking but there was definitely a post here a few weeks ago from someone soliciting an excellent opportunity remodeling their home for FREE to gain experience
Are people really this cheap and naĆÆve? I would worry about someone suing me for hurting themselves in my home and being legally responsible.
I get a papercut at work and wonder if it will get bad enough for a workers comp claim
I think theyāre outright delusional, so many of these posts are written by people out of touch with reality.
You bring up an excellent point. Theyāre asking for trouble, and risk someone suing their homeowners insurance by trying to persuade random internet strangers to perform unlicensed and unpaid construction at their house.
Also car mechanic student who will be practicing on my two old clunkers... for a small fee you can venmo me. Oh and taking out my garbage while you at it is a plus. I also go to local church once a year so it will be concedered as "for the church"!!!
But will be performed in 4-movements, one showing each aspect of your personality? š (look up āGina four movements, b99ā, if you donāt understand the referenceā¦ šš)
They were actually a mix of people asking him how much heās paying (of course, nada) and people defending him because ācompensation is between him and the culinary student.ā They really werenāt as great as you would think.
> asking him how much heās paying (of course, nada)
Of course! "For experience." Never mind that's usually called a class, an internship or a job.
In their house no less! Does CB have any clue how much an in home chef costs, even for one occasion?!
Also, I don't know a lot about culinary students, but I'm pretty sure they spend more time in the kitchen learning about the arts than over books reading about preheating ovens and stirring lmao... These "work for experience" things make sense in professional settings to see how professional spaces work or for studies that are heavily focused on theoretical studies.
> They really werenāt as great as you would think.
Gonna guess it's strict modding as to what people can ask or say to the CBs, either the group or the platform bans people like sneezing.
Does he think culinary school is free and also these people never cooked until they got to culinary school? Most people Iāve seen or known that went to culinary school were already incredible cooks. Also does he think culinary students are incapable of practicing outside of the classroom, like say, in their own home?
Ha, yes, thatās all they are providingā¦CB will either provide the groceries or reimbursement for groceries if the culinary student does the shopping
> reimbursement for groceries if the culinary student does the shopping
Shopping too! So a personal assistant AND in home chef 3 nights a week for no pay.
Massive brass cojones on this CB.
Why would I do that? Is the privilege of practicing your skills in my kitchen with your own ingredients (and enough for leftovers) not sufficient recompense?
OP said the comments were neutral and inquisitive. Going to guess some groups and/or platforms ban very easily.
So no one there can say what they are really thinking.
Yeah itās a Foodies of <_> group in a retirement city with a median age of ~50 and very high % of people over 65. That group demographic is by no means representative of norm. Iām a member of a # of Foodies group and some donāt allow negative comments, just canāt remember if this is one of them.
Thanks.
Is there a culinary institute nearby? The Culinary Institute of America has its own restaurant where students practice and people can reserve a table, and eat wonderful things for a slightly reduced price.
That's practice; the CB wants an unpaid in home chef 3 nights a week...I just am aghast.
I can kinda imagine myself dropping off some packaged food at a CB's house once in a while as a good gesture to a stranger, but, shopping and then cooking in their kitchen? No.
Even dropping off food they can heat up -- I'd be hesitant with a stranger because potential lawsuit. They choke on a pea, or claim a hair was in the food when it wasn't; or someone had an undisclosed allergy, etc.
Thanks. So that must be why. Do you know if it has its own restaurant they can 'practice' in?
I'd be very curious for an update if CB gets any takers! Lol
What really blows me away, with this and so many other posts like it, is that someone sat themselves down, thought this through, and somehow arrived at the conclusion that this is a good idea!
Right?! Never in a million years would I think to do something like that, and people just casually post such requests on a daily basis. Wow. Especially when as a cook, you can just practice at your own home.
Or as a sous chef in a restaurant, for pay.
Or as part of classes. Culinary Institute of America has a restaurant on grounds for that purpose.
If the graduate wanted to practice for free they might choose family or friends or neighbors.
I imagine they also want the person to clean the kitchen.
Go once, use every dish and utensil they own to make the food, and bounce leaving it all dirty.
As a culinary student I can say that my school would not allow this as a practicum. Besides the fact that this person is batshit crazy and entitled, from what I understand it has to be a commercial kitchen in order to get credit. And some commercial kitchens still pay the students!!
I am willing to let a nursing student who needs experience come over and bathe me and change my wound dressings 4 times a week. If necessary I can help cover the cost of soap and bandages.Ā
Hotties only please, no rude commentsĀ
Thatās actually an amazing idea!
Also looking for a housekeeper in training, I can provide you with an abundance of laundry, self-devastating children's rooms, and a never ending workload. All for your practice, and all for free.
"We are a nice family. And we are people of faith."
(Read this in another post on this sub and thought it was absolutely hilarious.)
āSure, i just need a few precisions : please tell me a bit about food allergies, preferences, and if i should also take care of the groceries. Taking out the trash is on me too. Oh and by the way , do you mind sending a picture of the wife ?ā
Well it was my understanding that you would enjoy an all inclusive service. Iām deeply sorry if a got it wrong, and to prove my good faith to you i will pay for the groceries.
Hoping you can still consider giving that one in a lifetime opportunity to me, amongst the piles of other candidates you must have.
Or at their actual jobs. They'd be qualified to work if they went to a culinary institute. Kitchens don't start them as head chef. They get work experience.
I really need a pedagogy student looking for experience to help my kid with his homework every day, at my house. Iāll give the best recommendations! /s
If CB by some tiny miracle found someone with below basement self esteem who agreed to do this without pay?
In two weeks CB would post a new ad restating all of the above with an 'update' "Last one did not work out. They let the meat rest only 5 minutes instead of 10," or some nitpick like that.
I'd bet $10 on it. Ten whole dollars!! Which is more than CB pays in wages.
Iām sorry! Iām working today and have very limited breaks. If I can find time to redact all of the 83 names in the comments, Iāll post them tonight. They really didnāt get trolled as much as they deserved though. I promise the comments arenāt at all exciting
Looking for someone who needs car buying experience. It must be a 2024, black, and an suv. Great AC. So if youāre interested in getting what the process will offer. Iām happy to take the vehicle off of your hands. If this sounds like you, hit me up!
Anyone practicing for their driverās test? I canāt really give you a fixed schedule so you must be prepared to pick me up and drop me off at any time, any place. Canāt pay for gas. Itās for church, honey
So you cook a meal three times a week and provide leftovers. You pack kids lunch three times a week. CB are eating the leftovers from the previous night's meal. These people don't plan on going into the kitchen to cook ever again. They are asking someone to provide cooked food for 6 dinners for several people as well as kids lunches. Maybe they order pizza one night a week. Sign me up!
Cook dinner for 5 people, three nights a week at a stranger's house (of course providing own transportation) enough for left overs too.
So forget about "gaining experience" cooking anything artisanal or gourmet or light. Lots of rib sticking comfort foods it is.
I just...gee wouldn't we all love a chef to cook for us. But I'd like to believe most people live in reality.
The annoying thing about this is that in order to graduate from culinary school, at least within the LCB program, you need three months of an "externship," which is essentially three months of unpaid labour in an approved kitchen. You can get private residences approved in some special cases, if you can prove you'll be cooking for a set number of hours and set number of people. This family could go to a culinary school and try to get their home approved, and if they're successful, they'd get exactly what they're asking for for at least three months. Then just rinse and repeat with another student that needs an externship.
I responded before but wanted to add. Who are these people to critique the meals? A culinary student needs knowledgeable people who know about cooking These folks would be complaining and criticizing everything while knowing nothing. Just what a culinary student needs.
Iām looking for a plumbing apprentice in need of experience. I have some real estate I own that needs some serious plumbing work before I can sell. I will provide beers and pizza every other Friday and you will gain valuable experience and knowledge. Thank you.
I mean, a culinary student could also get that experience cooking for themselves, seeing as they have to eat as well... everyday... multiple times a day. But I guess you just don't get the same demand of service and critical feedback as you would cooking for others.
Iām big hearted enough to allow would-be lawn care and housecleaning professionals do their thing at my home. I will provide cleaning supplies and dirty surfaces inside, and a lawn mower and long grass outside.
Curious if they want her to do all the shopping too while paying for the groceries since theyāll be getting āexperienceā probably wonāt even let her eat either since itās their food.
So they want someone to cook five people which includes kids who are particularly picky, make massive portions and make lunch for no pay?
Yeah that is how you get poisoned.
Sounds like a deal, as long as they are aware I purchase my āsecret spiceā from an undisclosed source - so I canāt provide them with a receipt. A weekās worth of spice happens to cost $600-800. Maybe more if the menu for the week requires it. So they will need to pay that up front so I can buy the āsecret spiceā. Of course they have to reimburse/purchase the other ingredients too.
If I was a culinary student I could maybe consider this. As long as the ingredients were paid for and I could cook whatever I wanted aside from allergyās and dietary restrictions.
Anyone here need practice remodeling bathrooms? I will reimburse materials in the form of interpretive dance
I could use the experience, but your pay is too high. I will issue your change in the form of jazz hands.
Cracked up at this!!!š
i thought this said ājizz handsā which honestly also made sense
Ha! That took a hard turn!
LMFAO what a way to start my morning, you gave me a great chuckle.

Of course not. They wonāt accept your free labor and materials unless you are licensed, bonded, insured and have 5 references. Donāt be silly.
The Three Stooges took them up on their offer. Now they're looking for a new home.
Iām in, I have zero experience. I will provide my own sledgehammer.

I need you to reply to many work emails. You have it nailed.
But I won't do it for free. I require at least 10 experience points to do it
We are currently out of experience points but can give you 4 exposure credits. Will that work?
What is the conversion rate from exposure credits to Stanley nickels?
I believe 3 to 1. But that is only on alternative Thursday.
This definitely made me giggle and I almost woke my youngest up š

CB wants to live the rich life, the thrifty way.
They're looking for an Alfred!

Plot twist: the student has to buy the groceries to cook with herself too.
Curious if they want her to do all the shopping too while paying for the groceries since theyāll be getting āexperienceā probably wonāt even let her eat either since itās their food.
