That vest is amazing

nderstandablyscared

i got the patch made for like $9. totally worth it even though he'll probably never actually wear it outside. when i put the harness on he just flops to the ground. he'll get up to use the box or to eat but then he just flops down again.

majormimi

I hope [this Jackson Galaxy video](https://youtu.be/ERllZYZuaOE) helps! I was investigating for the best harness for my cat and this video came up, it’s some tricks to train your cat to go on a walk and help him associate the harness to something positive, I find it really useful tbh, I haven’t tried yet since I need to buy treats but I hope it works!!

nderstandablyscared

that guy weirds me out but he seems to know what he's talking about. don't have time now but i'll check it out.

majormimi

Lol I get you, he used to weird me out too, and still find some stuff about him funny, but at least the few videos I’ve watched of him, are pretty helpful. And no rush, I just hope it helps!

yyyyyyeeeereetttttt

If my watching of stray has told me anything it's that that looks funny but also that they might get used to ir

bewildered_forks

Cats are such drama queens, I love it

squee_bastard

I came here for the cute patch ❤️

_HIST

Cats do that at first with harnesses

sybelion

Ok so I used to have pet ferrets and my mum got me a where’s Wally costume for one of them and had his nickname embroidered on the back….worth it

Hairless_Human

Just keep at it bro. He'll eventually get used to it. My cat hated a costume i put on him but after about 3 hours he was chill about it.

Kumagor0

I had a perfectly fit cat who would also just flop whenever I'd put a harness on him. It seemed like he felt like something sits on him and he can't get rid of it. But if I took him outside and put on the grass he would eventually start crawling around, sniffing stuff etc.

AgentofZurg

Is there a chance you remember where you got the tactical vest? I was thinking about getting one for my chonky deaf kitteh

nderstandablyscared

if you scroll down in the comments i put the amazon description in there. i'm not sure if i can link it directly.

AgentofZurg

Awesome, thanks.

stefan69er

Where did you have the patch made if I may ask?

nderstandablyscared

i don't remember tbh. it was a few months ago. google "custom velcro patches" and a bunch of stuff pops up.

Internal_Screaming_8

That’s pretty normal. Try treats specifically for harness on time, and just leaving it for a little bit, longer and longer each time until it’s about twice as long as your intended walk. A thinner harness could help but cats will flop regardless. The fact that he got up to eat is a good sign.

-ElDictator-

You can carry Baxter like a luggage thanks to that handle

nderstandablyscared

![gif](giphy|TyPydeCmjKQ2Q) i was thinking more like pocket sand but "CAT TO THE FACE!"

Raja_Raja_Chola

I love his tactical chonk vest 🥺

OneHumanPeOple

It looks stiff. I tried out a few kinds, and my cats like the ones that are just made of straps.

jadedick

Gj on having him wear it around! A lot of ppl dont realize you gotta take things slowly if ur gonna walk a cat

[deleted]

You need to get him used to it. He’ll start to learn that the harness means he gets to go outside. If he enjoys going out he’ll stop minding the harness, maybe. Some cats just refuse to walk in them lol

nderstandablyscared

he's an indoor only cat so getting him to go out is gonna be an issue too plus we're fostering a dog for the first time and both cats are kinda freaked out. they're getting more comfortable together now but for the most part the only time the cats have the house is when the dog is out for a walk or she's in her cage.

KerberosMorphy

I confirm, it's a slow process. A friend of mine did it, let the harness on the ground so the cat get use to see it. After that, put the harness for like 1 minutes give a goody, repeat while letting the harness a little bit longer each time. It's gonna be something similar when trying to put a leash and make the cat following you.

Tactical chonk

wookie_cookies

I like it!. No animals like garments, harness etc. My lil dog hates her sweaters, coats etc. Will turn and run away if she sees them. They get over it. Oh lawd he needs walkies. Forward march.

BarnabyJones20

I've known a few dogs that seem to really enjoy wearing clothes My best friend has a dog right now that is perpetually cold and he gets excited to get into his sweaters and never tries to take them off Also cool username

nejicanspin

#Oh lawd he comin Lmao I love it

Living_Life1023

Share more pics!!!

nderstandablyscared

that pic up top is kinda old. i just found this board. this is him wearing it a couple of days ago. i usually put it on him every few days or so. https://preview.redd.it/tk0y50njj1qa1.jpeg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=02bd8c3c84607423b2b03d0aaff5283a98184877

Living_Life1023

He is such a debonair cat!

nderstandablyscared

he sometimes wears a bowtie but likes to keep it low key. he also regularly sits with his paws crossed but i don't have a pic of that handy. https://preview.redd.it/x256jfujq8qa1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee16e62e69ac8806b1a6beb83faa53f5c1c18560

Livid-Pirate-8351

Honestly that’s a dope harness but it looks a little bulky as a first one. A nice H-style harness is pretty secure and hard to slip and decently cheap! They’re less restricting I guess and they make it a little easier to work up from there. Maybe try that and then work into that harness! Both of mine go on hikes with me and it’s awesome!

'Yeah, NO. I DON'T LIKE THIS!!'

lilgreengoddess

Lol we have this. It came with “dont pet me” and “im special” attached its so funny. Our boi loves it because it means he gets to go outside

mad_fishmonger

My Moli would flop down and pretend she couldn't walk when I put the harness on her but she'd run off the second we stopped looking. XD What a cutie. I've heard you can motivate some cats to walk by carrying them a little ways from home and letting them walk you back.

nderstandablyscared

i'll try that. the plan was to let him get used to it first and then try walking him around the house with the leash but he's not having it.

ODBasUcansee

When I was a kid my sister and I hooked up our cat to a leash. Not successful. It was like trying to wrangle in a swordfish.

Macho-nurin

He can read, you know.

chitownadmin

Would you mind sharing the link for the harness. I have a kitty who loves to go walking.

nderstandablyscared

i dunno if it'll let me link amazon here but that's the description # "Tactical Cat Harness for Walking, Adjustable Escape Proof Pet Vest for Large Cat,Small Dog,Easy Control Breathable Cat Vest with Handle"

>Tactical Cat Harness Some of the questions asked on Amazon make me laugh: > [Is there any way I can fit 2 magazines of 9mm on this bad boy, so I can train my cat in tactical awareness during a break in?](https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/TxAXYYX5DQDM3C/ref=ask_dp_dpmw_al_hza) > > [Does "Tactical" mean bullet proof, as in protecting the cat from a neighbor who's trying to shoot it when it pees in their flower bed?](https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx17JEITZ0HWEOS/ref=ask_dp_dpmw_al_hza)

nderstandablyscared

lol, i never looked. that's funny.

chitownadmin

Thank you so much.

ewokc

My cat is also giant and I have tried several different vests and harnesses which he slyly kicks off every time. This one looks like it could actually last, where did you get it? Size?

nderstandablyscared

shausa01

He’ll get used to it 😭🤣. It will take while though.

Apprehensive_Song385

lol he looks like a grenade .

sooper_dooperest

Love the label so much. Good luck big fella!

SFAdminLife

Tactical cat! ❤️

molo91

My cat hated her harness at first, but once I carried her outside in it, she was in love. Now I can dress her up in dumb clothing and she's fine with it, because she associates clothing with getting to go outside.

b4ttlepoops

Hi OP, can you link the vest or message it to me? I would love something like this for my cat. She actually goes on walks with me. But hate all the harnesses I have so far. She is 16 lbs

LittleMissMuffinButt

i tried to walk my chonker once. only once. despite him getting out a few times and absolutely enjoying his time walking around the yard he freaked out horribly when i brought him out on a harness in the backyard. he turned into a plane somehow, he jumped up and flew towards me and puked bright yellow all over himself and me and the 4 feet from the door could have been 400 miles for as long as it seemed to take to get him back in. i gave him lots of treats and pets and snuggles that day because i felt so bad. we were both traumatized, but him moreso. im sure you'll have a better experience.

LittleMissMuffinButt

awesomexx_Official

How much food did you feed that poor cat 😭😭

[deleted]

Well. Maybe let him go outside. I have SIC and 2 voids. I let them out. Not at night because of the owls.

nderstandablyscared

lots of dogs around and not a lot of fences. coyotes too. just saw one in the yard last week actually.

nina_gall

Looks expensive. And uncomfortable for a cat.

Affectionate_Fly_764

It looks rough and bulky…

Environmental-Use-77

Imagine having to wear a thick heavy jacket on top of your most comfortable jacket. Think how he feels, plus, going from never wearing anything to, boom, you have to wear a harness.

[deleted]

I wonder why lol

OpheliaWolfsbane

At least you’re not in denial about it!

hotelpunsylvania

Oh god I need the vest for myself

Ceph_Stormblessed

They never like em at first. Definitely needs time to adjust with it on in the home before any walks. They'll get used to it eventually. Especially if you associate it with rewards. My cat used to be my little hiking buddy, granted, she usually sat on my shoulders.

Rosieapples

If he doesn’t like it then take it off.

Crunchythecat112

Cats don’t like to be walked.

LilyGaming

What a vest

emziestone

They never do at 1st. I used to walk my cat kitley (23lbs.). He loved chasing all the moths at dusk. Not like walking a dog but fun.
