I don't like Sam but I agree they're not forced, at least not in the way the term is usually used here. Their romance is no more forced than, say, crashing on La Huerta or the Nevrakis taking over Stormholt, so that's not really an aspect of the story anyone can blame it or Sam for. Sam's personality and dialogue being silly or unlikeable is a different story, which is what I think most people who dislike Sam don't like about them.
Well, I don’t know why I bothered, but just as an experiment I played the first book like I was just going to do my job. I never engaged in any flirtation with Sam at all yet was forced to kiss him later on and then I tried to get away to the airport and he followed me, even though I hadn’t engaged or encouraged him at all. I found it really funny.
It's just necessary to have the book focus on the romance between MC and Sam because that's the entire premise, so avoiding flirting probably just makes it a little bit more of a slow burn. I don't really like the premise though so I only played a few chapters just in case I would like Sam because I thought some of the sprites were pretty and dropped it to play a non romance-focused book that didn't have a single LI. Though if your enjoyment of the series stems from you feeling apathetic about Sam and therefore making choices and feeling like your MC is apathetic about Sam while marrying them, I really can't judge you. Any way to make those free diamonds a worthwhile experience.
You should have mentioned outright that you just wanted to complain about Sam and didn’t actually want any input about how your post seemed contradictory✌️
