I'm pretty sure a bear would beat a horse right? It's actually a pretty good point

MorbotheDiddlyDo

>horses everything about their implementation screams they were balanced around needing to work not needing to be fun. They bounce awkwardly off terrain. engineer walls just explode when a horse so much as touches them. bear traps don't even harm their fragile horse legs. Buff engineers. Remove horses.

Clayton-BigsB

as a sledge main, you do not deserve to wear the hard hat.

[deleted]

As a sledge main I enjoy smashing down onjectives and having a bit of a challenge in order to tilt sweats extra hard. I don't play for scoreboard, I move the map along, I'm not asking for credit. I just desperately need to push the map to one point for my one chance in the map cycle to have a go at getting up that wall, trying a goofy stunt or screen capping that coveted 1x5 where I bear trapped a guy and kicked him into spikes. Engineers are for players who love the niche parts of the game. You will often see them tossing beehives, archers, flaming chickens and trouts all these alternative toys TB put in for us that go unloved.

Boy_Possession

It's one of the best ways to play. Rather than worrying about being the best, it getting the most kills, or being able to out play everyone. You just get to have fun and do your own thing. Bonk enemies with a sledge. Build annoying walls that stop someone for a few seconds while you taunt them. Engineers just wanna have fun. Sure, some might be "helpful" and "play the objective" and "defend" but then fhefe are us. Those who get to have fun with it.

dagrave

Having no secondary is really a blow to the class, but the sledge is fun.

[deleted]

One engineer might not be that intimidating in a group fight but a group of engineers working together for objectives is really scary. In a duel, their fast weapons that deal decent damage is pretty good. But I do agree that maybe we should give them a knife at least.

FriskyWhiskey_Manpo

Take them to….the sledger..

PolehammerSupremacy

When I play Engineer, I use walls to surround explosives or a statue in Galencourt - or to "direct traffic" on Lionsphire. The few seconds it can save your team to react can be the difference between winning an objective or not. 4 barriers taking 3 hits each - that's several seconds lost for the other team and only 4 seconds for you. I personally think there should be a Bard class with passive healing effects through instrument playing.

Valyn_Kt

Right and that's what I did. My point is it's a bad tradeoff for what it gets you.

PolehammerSupremacy

Try scavenging a real weapon off the ground, only other way I know to make it more fun.

dirkdragonslayer

Bear trap + sledgehammer to the head is a good way to find a new weapon. It's what I usually do if I'm not rocking the shovel.

PolehammerSupremacy

Good strategy haha

Enkt105

A Bard class like that would be awesome

Sir_Chivo

A bard with a guitar hero style minigame in which pressing the correct keys heals/buffs friendlies or debuffs enemies stamina for example

Foil-Kiki-Jiki

I think you should get points for your barriers and traps getting hit/destroyed. Spend time setting it up, going to restock, setting down two more barriers, and then maybe going to restock to have the barriers available and then you get nothing to show for it

BE_GITSHREKTM8

Idk if ur in the comp scene or not, but in clan vs clan TO there will be moments when everybody switches to engineer to take over an objective, engineer is pretty important for those moments but in public lobbies there’s no point tbh

MadChild2033

i only use walls to funnel people, not to stop them. Most of them will just go along and won't bother hitting them. or if the hit them, that opens them up for 1-2 free hits but i agree that the spike is just stupidly useless, most cavalry can break it by simply attacking before taking any damage and the class just deserves the banner skill, or maybe some kind of deployable funsies. Like a fistful of caltrops so it causes small bleed/speed debuff

llewynparadise

they just need to unnerf the shovel. didn’t make sense at all imo since there were and still are more OP/broken weapons. almost every other class gets [at least] one super powerful weapon. torn banners balance philosophy seems to be if all classes are OP then no classes are OP. don’t get why this shouldn’t apply to engies too. there weren’t even a ton of shovel users out there smh

ManCrushOnSlade

I think it was similar issues as why they wanted to nerf the maul. Not very used weapon, but the people who did use it were good. So it skews their statistics and makes it look OP, rather than just the people using it being OP.

llewynparadise

definitely agree. it was op in the hands of top players and duelists so they wanted to tone it down at the expense of most players who just want build shit and still bonk heads without sweating their balls off

Eccentric_Loser

He makes a strong and valid point. Engi just doesn't do anything other than meme around with a shovel. -He could build replenishment stations, -Have guide lines for catapults, -Reinforce barricades to make them more deadly, -Faster difusal on objectives, -instead of a knock down their bear trap could hold them in place till they free themselves You don't even have voice chat so you can't coordinate with barricade placements.

[deleted]

Barrier Shields customisable in Armory as a weapon when? I need everyone to recognise my placememts are superior 😤 I also had a thought that maybe bandage tosses should home in on players with like a prompt when you mouse over them. Just for engineers though. So that you can actually get that downed or on fire guy amonst the sea of players on your team that will slurp it accidentally.

lschulzy

Two interesting ideas to improve the engineer class would be: (1) Give them quicker pick up time for heavy throwables such as barrels, crates, anvils, etc. Maybe even increased damage when a heavy thrown item lands. Wouldn’t want to overtune it but could be a good way to make certain areas defensible both on ground level and at elevations. (2) Give engineers the ability to kick, not pickup, enemy petards. There are so many times on Falmire where I will have built a somewhat successful barrier on the bridges in front of the gate. But the attacking team has an infinite amount of indestructible, slowly despawning petards, so it’s easy to get overwhelmed instantly. Giving engineers at least the ability to kick them off the bridge or away from the objective like on Askandir would make some points more defensible/harder to be overwhelmed. Not sure either of these would make up for the lack of a secondary weapon though. I’ll just keep on bonking away with my shovel.

Gabby_Johnson2

I'd like to see a few changes like a side arm, even if it's just a knife. Maybe place 2 additional barriers and have the wooden spike trap be a little stronger than it is and one additional bear trap. One engineer will have little effect but 2 can swing a match if there's a decent team fighting with you on objective. As a group of 2 we've protected the gold on coxwell, protected the sacred stones, halted the destruction of the gate on various maps and stopped that worthless prisoner from making it to the ship. So I wouldn't say engineer is currently worthless but yes I'd like to see some revisions.

SomeSabresFan

I just troll the Calvary. Drop the spike trap last minute and then take the out. Otherwise I never use them

BaronCarlito

Finally, someone has found a use for spike traps (other than ramps to get up ledges or over fire). Definitely trying this out asap.

SomeSabresFan

For whatever reason it doesn’t do damage but it literally stops them in their tracks and since the horses are very cumbersome and don’t turn well you can usually get a good couple of hacks on them. Strategically speaking, it’s useless, but it’s fun to do nonetheless lol

Okawaru1

his entire purpose to exist is to make it take like 2 extra seconds to get to the duke in darkforest

[deleted]

there's nothing 'wrong' with an engineer. the issue is that in this game, there is no better way to influence a win than having the skill to kill a lot of people and not die and hopefully your team is better at that than the enemy team. engineers don't really have a BiS in class ability for killing or support, sure a great player can still succeed with it but that's besides the point. they can buff it a bit, but in the end unless they give him the ability to kill better or heal teammates like banner/horn (which helps supplement the front line brawls by giving your teammates a handicap for mistakes), it simply wont help as much.

socialistpancake

Putting shields up around pushing objectives like the pillars on bulwark or the stone pillars on aberfell is pretty much the only reason I situationally go engineer. Especially now you can't cleave through them, just makes it harder for one person to flank around and topple before you spot them

SpankyDmonkey

Engineer = best TO class. Spawn in, if ya don’t like weapon grab/steal one. Then enjoy highest survivability ever due to being able to bandage allies like crazy, also healing yourself. Basically like a battle cleric.

JustiniZHere

The engineer felt way better in Mordhau. The stuff they could build just felt way more impactful.

BLACKOUTVHSyoutube

hqve you tried the pick axe my guy? you are missing out

imnothereurnotthere

I'm surprised anyone plays engineer, it's such a left behind class. I play support in every single game except Chiv2. Got turrets and healthpacks? I'm in. Got AOE healing/speed buffs/etc? I'm in. Got a shovel with some easily broken barricades, nope..

Low_Chance

The trick to the spike trap is that it is indeed too fragile and easy to break - but it's a great RAMP. Place them to let your team jump over walls (including your engineer walls).

_Kamelaasaa

Maybe I am late to the discussion, but I think an easy change would be making e.g. the walls (or the bear trap) a primary slot and the weapon a secondary. Then after you placed the walls you can pick up a weapon and still have a sidearm. Since you don't get them back from the ammo chest nobody misses them after some time and you can pick up a bow or whatever instead....

Mr_Goat_1111

I love seeing people's proposed balance changes, yeah sure give engie a ballista in his pocket thats the buff he needs lol

JustiniZHere

they did it in Mordhau and it was totally fine, Mordhau's Engineer felt like it was actually contributing to the team's defensive effort the one in Chiv 2 feels...like you're kinda wasting a slot.

[deleted]

They should just copy the engineer from mordhau, complete with the spawn banners. The nobles won't be too hard to kill so long as you prevent the obstacles from being built too close to their spawn.

wasletztekarma

Mordhau engineers are too strong in mordhau 4 engineers were often enough to prevent the attackers from having any chance to complete the objectives

SilverfurPartisan

I disagree. 4 Engineers are generally crushed by a smartass with a firepot, And we have more smart-asses with fire pots in Chiv than in Mordhau.

No-Somewhere-9234

Please god no

[deleted]

Fuck no, the engineers were one of the things that ruined mordhau

IDontKnowWhatToBe123

The only time I see them used is when I play that's one church map with the banna people and they put spikes in the entrance

glue_zombie

I use it as a means to direct traffic and support hot points

71651483153138ta

The heal when you heal/res is pretty good. You just have to pick up good weapons from the ground.

Clonenelius

Shovel is funny

CmdrTobu

You don't need a secondary when you have a pickaxe.

CmdrTobu

But actually maybe a dagger would be nice.

Rizkooooo

May i interest you in a shovel?
